In 1950, Red Wing Shoes introduced boot style 854, crafted with distinctive Red Russet leather which inspired the Irish Setter name. Irish Setter became the premier boot brand for generations of hunters and workers by proving itself in the field and on the job site. Today, more than 100 years of Red Wing work boot experience, combined with the over 60-year legacy of Irish Setter outdoor footwear, results in purpose-built Irish Setter footwear for the modern craftsman and avid hunter.

The more you know...
For reference: the two pair of boots shown in the attached photos were daily wear. I averaged 5 miles a day in all climes and places, from in the classroom to the woods from the muck and mud to mortar and concrete, rain or shine and my feet were dry and never too cold or too hot. I did wear a quality wool sock though and I polished the boots regularly. In the photos I point out the issues encountered and reported but never received any compensation. When it's time to replace the sole, ya can't. Only course of action is buy another pair. The local Redwing retailer informed me of this. **maybe they were working an upsell?**Other boots cramp my toes and /or create hotspots on my toes. I've looked at other boots but either they aren't safety toe, or not insulated, or not waterproof or not 11 inch uppers. *other reviews stated the boot is not insulated. All I know is in snow, ice, or icy water, my feet were warm. In the summer months, standing on asphalt and concrete my feet were never too hot.~ $200 for a pair of boots is nothing to take lightly. My 3rd pair arrives Monday; three pairs of boots in almost 6 years and the only real issue is the soles cannot keep up with me.24 January, 2021New boots arrived today. Out of the box, the fit was as expected. Toes are not cramped. I did remove the factory insert to replace with my custom insert, boots feel awesome.See the updated pictures of the old vs new sole/tread.These are daily wear boots. I will post additional photos and comments.

Good work boot
First off for a boot to last you need to take care of your leather and stitching. I use this boot in the jungle of Peru working with a good light weight wool sock to keep the foot Oder down. Treat my leather and stitching with saddle soap and mink oil. Keeps the boot waterproof. This particular boot is snug at the ankle which is a pain putting on after you take it off during the day but to me adds good ankle support and feels good when your boot is all the way on so it's a trade off. Use a boot dryer at night to air them out and change socks mid day. They look good also, so 4 stars for the snug ankle.Update- January now, wettest time of year here in Peru. At least 6 months on these boots and my pair is perfect. Still maintain leather and stitching with saddle soap and mink oil. Boot dryer at night while sleeping (takes the days foot moisture out and keeps the nights humidity out) and wool socks. Ankle broke in nicely and no longer hard to pull on and off. Feet stay dry and am ready to break in a second set and start alternating, leaving a set on the dryer. Can't stress enough you must take care of boots to last. I have a 20 yr old set of Red Wings at home I have had re-soled twice cause the leather outlasts the heel wear with care.

I was able to get this exact boot.
Have bought these boots for our son as a Christmas Gift past 2 years and he loves them and wanted the same boots again this year. He is a welder and fabricator and says the boots hold up well, plus he says they fit his foot right. I tried to find the exact same boot on Irish Setter web-site but was unable to find them. Fortunately at the time I ordered them on amazon this was the last pair available and I was just lucky enough to get them. They came right away so am very pleased. I hope they continue this same model of boot in the future. I could not answer all the questions about the boot since I am not the wearer. Thank You

Great quality!
My father worked in the mines and always wore the Irish Setter because of their durability. My husband works construction and goes through several pair of boots per year, but had never had a pair of Red Wings. After several years of trying to talk him into a pair, he finally agreed to try them. He said they are a bit snug at the top bend of the foot, but after getting them on, he absolutely loved them. They were a perfect fit, he was impressed with the quality of the leather and the stitching, and said the insole was very comfortable. He thought the outer sole was larger and thicker by the picture, but was glad to discover that wasn't the case when actually seeing them, and really liked the tread on the bottom. He tried to make them slip and they just wouldn't. He also liked the fact that the aluminum toe made the boot lighter, and that the canvas body will allow for breathing yet is waterproof. This is the most impressed he has ever been with a boot, and he has had many! A very happy camper!

Great boots!
This is my 2nd pair. The first lasted 6 years, which included standing around for hours each day in a mix of mud and various caustic chemicals in the oil field. Didn't bother the stitches at all. Better yet, I hadn't properly prepped them as I should've done. I already have a few jars of Obenauf's on hand to properly prep this pair. The leather on my old boots are still in good shape. Going to see if I can have them resoled, so that I can have a good spare set of boots. They do fit tight in the shank, and they could stand to be a tad more wider so that you can wear heavy socks in the winter.

Work ready and hardy.
My 3rd pair . There not a custom boot unless you heat shrink them in the oven but I never have and they fit well. Again itโs my 3rd pair . Just donโt put a bigger or after market insole in unless you want slip on slip off problems . If chosen to do so make sure they are equivalent to the original insoles measurement and thickness wise . Great work boot for environmental clean up and oil industry work .

I really like the boot
I really like the boot, I have been wearing this make and model of boot for about 4 years. There would be a 5 star rating except usually around the 18 month mark the lining behind the heel usually rips and makes pulling your foot out of the boot very challenging. I suspect the lining issue is because of the hard plastic orthotics I use. I work in a factory and the boots get pretty abused (a variation of hot, cold, wet and harsh chemical environments) and they have stood up to the abuse.
