Sutcliffe Cove Paperback – March 30, 2009

Wow how sweet this paperback turned out to be. In August 2009 after some intense reads especially WITNESS I was ready for something just like this. I found it to be well written and smooth. The men are warm and themselves - no hiding, but professional in their jobs. Enjoyed completely. No sex for half the book & the build up was light to a lot of affection, attraction and mutual give & take without force /new experiences / happiness / wonder / horse farm / riding lessons /gay marriage / months to become friends - not hours or days /shared passion / blue collar and white collar /adopted horse / uncertainty /new discoveries / family building of a solid relationship /Connecticut - Greenwich /selfish boyfriend. If you don't like sweet romances this story is not for you, but if you like honey and sugar you'll enjoy this book.

I really hoped to like this book but I am sorry to say it was really boring. The first half of the book was dull and the second half was nothing more than sex with a few boring scenes thrown in. Maybe worth .99cents but not the price I paid.

Sweet but boring. Kept waiting for these two to experience some extreme challenge, but they never did. It was like reading a fairy tale for adults, for there is some serious sexual content in this book!

As a gay man who loves to ride horses and loves to read gay romance, I was smitten with this book and strongly recommend it. One guy owns a horse farm and gives riding lessons, but needs money to expand it to do what he wants to do (therapeutic horseback ridnig). The other guy is an accountant and has plenty of money, but works too much and has no personal life. He decides he's interested in learing to ride horses, so he starts lessons at the other's horse farm. The two are deeply attracted to each other from the first, but the farm owner is dating someone (who is SO not right for him), and both heroes give that relationship more respect than it's worth. Of course, if the farm owner and teacher had known the other guy was gay and attracted to him, the boyfriend would have been sent away right away, but then the story would've been much shorter. Months go by and the accountant becomes a good rider and a close friend and almost permanent resident of the horse farm. You can figure out the rest of the story. My only criticism is that there was so little conflict between the two protagonists. Usually it's more difficult, conflicted, tense starting a new romance than it was here. Still, good read, loved the characters and the plotline, loved the horses. If those things attract you, go for it.

If you are thinking of learning to ride a horse, this is the book for you. If you like embarrassing sex scenes, this is the book for you. If you aren't bothered about not having a strong narrative with twists and conflict resolution, this is the book for you. If you want cringe-making dialogue between two men... well, you get the point.It's a mystery how this book got published. There is scarcely any plot to speak of, poor characterisation, a main character who doesn't know what loyalty is and two female authors who don't know how men talk to one another in the absence of women. I feel stung out of the cost of the book
