as it sounds like you are hitting a box with even the lightest ...
I could not use this as it is constructed, as it sounds like you are hitting a box with even the lightest of taps. Very distracting even with closed end head phones on. After reading an article about using the Surge top with this bottom, and updated the brain, wow! Works with the hi-hat stand, and one more step near realism. Neat toys!

Read before buying
Pros, it functions just like a hihat and If you mod it the hihat works great. Also costs way less than Yamaha hihat. Cons, rubber pad makes knocking noise unlike my other cymbals not noticeable if you had the volume up or wearing drum headphones, spring gave too much resistance and I had to cut it in half so my son could close the hihat to trigger close. I wear drum headphones and after cutting the spring I decided to keep it because the hihat works good now, it's better than my old alesis hihat and more fun. Give it a shot what do you have to lose, its prime.

Works with the Alesis Command Mesh, but is not without its problems.
Works with the Alesis Command Mesh module if anyone is wondering. All of the features (open, close, half, etc.) that the original hi-hat pedal allows for will work here as well. Though (probably due to lack of dedicated calibration options that are built into the officially supported modules) you do need to increase the activation threshold to as high as it goes on your module, or it will trigger a hat strike every time you close it, drowning out the actual desired hat close sound. No worries, as it still triggers just fine with the sticks, even with light playing. Also again probably due to lack of official support from the Command module, there is occasionally a problem with unintended double triggering, that isn't resolved even when setting the retrig threshold at max. Easily solved by keeping a sponge between the cymbals to soak up vibration. Taking two stars away because, as other reviewers have stated, this thing is LOUD. It sounds like playing a wood block vs the dull thud of the other rubber cymbals, and is loud enough to be audible through my headphones. It's completely due to a lack of padding, which is a shame that they skimped on something so cheap when this is nearly a fatal flaw. "Fixed" by trimming down a cheap mouse pad and inserting it under the thin rubber playing surface with contact cement, but I'm certain almost no one would tolerate this level of jank. For 1/3 the price of a Roland, I'm willing, but your mileage may vary.

It looks like a real Hi Hat
I wanted to have a more traditional feeling than the single cymbal, and after a lot of research, I went with Alesis Pro X Hi Hat. It looks like a real Hi Hat, even if the touch is, of course plastic, and not a real cymbal. I read a lot of posts around the web about his compatibility with Alesis Trigger I/O and all of those are negative. I tried and guess what...it actually works really well. So Alesis Pro X Hi Hat works with Alesis Trigger I/O. I use it with Addictive Drums 2 and it sounds amazing.

Loud & largely unresponsive
I one of the latest Alesis kits that I love! I thought I would add a natural feeling hi-hat and gravitated to the Alesis to keep the brands the same. First, hitting the hi-hat is very loud. I can hear it through my headphones. Second, I can't get is to play like a natural hi-hat and it is unresponsive at times. I have tried tons of settings combinations, gone to discussion boards for advise, asked for technical help from Alesis (NO RESPONSE), and used two different hi-hat stands. I am frustrated, so I disconnected it and went back to the cymbal/pedal combo that came with the kit.

Works perfectly on the Alesis Forge!
I'm using this with an Alesis Forge, and Gibraltar hi hat hardware. It worked perfectly after setting it up, and using the 2 hi hat plugs from the original Forge cable snake. Since it said it would only work with certain models I was afraid it wouldn't, but it works perfectly. And it has much better response than the hi hat foot pedal that came with the forge. So if you own an Alesis Forge this is an awesome upgrade that works perfectly after set up with no tweaking required! Much better than the original Forge hi hat accessories.

The noisiest trigger on my set.
It does give me the feel of a real Hi-Hat, however it's my noisiest trigger on my set and it can be heard over headsets/mic/other instruments. I had to switchback to the stock hi-hat the set came with. Too late to return.

Great product
When I first bought my DM10 it was a huge upgrade over my DM6 set. The one drawback was the hit hat control pedal, it was terrible and unresponsive. I purchased this to round out the kit and let me say for the most part it is night and day difference. You will have to play with the settings to get this where you like it, but once you do it is much more precise than the original DM10 controller. Only gave 4 stars because like other reviewers said for a pad they are very noisy, but that is the only downside. Overall I would recommend to any DM10/8 users that are unsatisfied with included hi hat controller

Really fast shipping.
This thing came in really fast. I have it set up n a hi hat stand. I looks great. I haven't been able to try it on the Dm10 yet because it is still on its way. I wanted this to happen.

Rumoroso e crosstalk

The top cymbal's quality is a real shame
I decided to return this hi-hat after the top cymbal began to fall apart after only 2 weeks. I love Alesis, I own an electronic drum and a mixer from this company, and they rock. However, I don't know if it's because they wanted to offer a very inexpensive hi hat, but they cut down on the top cymbal quality big time and I think this is a very bad idea. Compared to the regular Alesis cymbals I have on my kit, the hi hat's is about half thick and the way the rubber part (where you hit) is glued is very poor and strange. The glue was cheap and was going away after only 2 weeks, and the rubber was about to break on the edge of the cymbal after 3 weeks. I'd had enough at that point. Other than that, the mechanism, the trigger response and the bottom cymbal are all fine. I think Alesis could benefit from adding a classic Alesis cymbal as the top one and increase the price a bit. I would've kept it if that would've been the case... Very disappointed with this product indeed.
