Marine MGH300 Waterproof Gimble Mount Stereo Housing

Good product-I have this mounted on a deck with a Jensen car radio inserted. Although the directions are rather sparse, it was straight forward to assemble. It has been through one fairly heavy rain storm and seems to have kept everything inside nice and dry. That said, I will probably install some kind of plastic covering over this unit just as an extra precaution- it is water resistant, not water proof. As reported in one of the answers to questions, the MP3 storage compartment is not large enough to house a smart phone any larger than a standard iPod. The cover is fairly hard to close but that appears to be due to the weather tight seal around the front edge. The mount comes with the top and bottom halves separated. Alignment of these parts, especially with the radio inserted is a little finicky (technical term), but you can see that the seams between the halves close up nicely when you get it right. In my case, I had to re-adjust the upper tab on the radio mounting sleeve to get the front to close (you have to insert the radio sleeve and pre-bend this tab before closing up the case).Just updated to 5 stars- tihs unit has been through 2 significant rainstorms and has kept everything dry as a bone. As discussed above, I no longer plan on adding a seperate cover.UPDATE - It is now July 2017 and this box rocks- 2 full seasons of wether and not a single leak!

I searched and searched for a "resonably" priced unit(enclosure) for my boat stereo - all I found were priced way high. I just couldn't seem to justify the price. Then I found this Jensen unit. Excellent price, excellent construction. No problems whatsoever installing. Seems tight as a drum - no water prnblems yet!AND it looks great - vert classy. Not cheap like some I've seen - and all the while being about 50% less cost! A great value!

This is a very clean way to install a stereo where you don't have a standard din dash. My only complaints are with this size and the ease of opening and closing the door. The unit is pretty large so it made it a little harder to find a good place to mount. Upon installation it was evident that the depth was necessary to fit all the connections on the back of the deck. I would, however, prefer not to have the remote storage on the side and just have the case be a little slimmer. The door is also relatively hard to latch shut But when it is shut, it won't open without you prying it open. I'm sure this would have it's advantages in some applications, but for mine, I wish is was easier to open and close.

I bought this because Amazon had it listed as "WATERPROOF" and when I received it I found it was merely an open housing. This is far from waterproof. I contacted Amazon about this but all they wanted to do was give me my money back and return the item. I decided to keep it and sealed the housing once I had the radio wired in. It's a good housing to use but Amazon made the mistake of listing it as waterproof.

The quality of the product looks good, however, there were suppose to be six, M3.5 X 10MM screws with it which attach the top of the housing to the bottom. They weren't there. I called Jensen and tried to get them, even offered to buy them, they said they couldn't help me. Suggested I go to my local hardware store & buy them. I live in a rural area, the hardware store didn't have that size screw. Meh.

I mounted this up in an electronic box in my boat. A few comments... Front door provides a good seal with a gasket around the perimeter. The box is designed so the wires from the radio come out the back and down before exiting the box. A few commenters complained it was not "watertight" because of this. Just get some insulating spray foam if you think its an issue and spray a little up the holes where the wires come out. It will expand and be watertight. Good value for the money. Some other people complained that the little compartment to the side made it unnecessarily wider. I thought it is a great feature to store my I-Phone dryly, and encourage the manufacturer to put in a second compartment to store charging cables and other small items. Happy with it

I wanted to replace the 10 year old houseing I had so I searched around and could not find a cheaper houseing then right here on Amazon. What Impressed me was Is I didnt have to cut all the radio wireing again and pass is through the new houseing. The top is off when it arrives and all that needs to be done is for you to insert the radio and feed the wires through the back wire feed on the back of the houseing. Next just screw the top back together with the bottom and mount the legs. I personally like the extra pocket on the side, I have a slim cell phone that fits perfect right in there.Going to place order for an AM/FM antenna now :-)

The unit works pretty well in every respect but one key aspect... The cover won't stay closed. Kinda renders the idea of waterproofing invalid when the only thing between your stereo and the elements is a cover that just kind of sits closed and will pop open at the slightest bump or torque.Fortunately for me, I am using this in an old truck and not on a boat, so it doesn't cause me a problem. However, if you are considering this for your boat, you may want to save your receipt. I could have just got a bad one, but it seems more a design flaw than a manufacturing flaw.As a general car stereo mount it works great!

Nice box, comes disassembled, good mounting brackets, good downward pointing holes at rear for wiring. Door closure/latch could be better. Overall good box for the price.
