How is this different than the first model the akg n700nc?

Samsung took a lot of the suggestions for the original N700NC and implemented them into the M2. The ones which I liked are. The new model has the following - 23 hrs battery life (previously 20 hrs) - USB C (previously micro USB) - Better call quality (improved dual mic) - Now fully compatible with Apple devices - Sound amplification

The active noise cancellation feature in most headphones often causes some degree of eardrum pressure - how would you rate these?

Far less pressure than Bose QC35 II. Less than Sony XM3s or XM4s. If ANC is your priority, go with those. If great sound quality with functional ANC is your priority, go with these. They sound much better than Bose or Sony.

Can these be used on a Samsung TV

Yes, if you have the newer Samsung TV that has Bluetooth capabilities. If not, then you may have to purchase a Bluetooth receiver, plug into the Audio Out Port in the back of the TV. Then you can connect the AKG headphones to Bluetooth receiver. That's what I did and the sound was great!

Can you still hear the TV volume with the headset on or off

No. You can't hear the TV if the Bluetooth for the headphones are being used. Once you connect via Bluetooth the regular TV audio is off.
