Q: My AE2 Bose cable has 3 black rings on the male ends, this one only two, does that matter?

Three black rings mean that it is able to pass a microphone input along as well as the regular sound. This cable only has 2, so all it is capable of doing is passing the regular sound. So as long as you intend not to do any voice recording through this cable, it will work great.

Q: I suspect this will work with the bose soundtrue over-ear headphones, but i thought i'd ask. anyone using this cord for those headphones?

I am using it with the Bose QC35 headphones. Works perfectly.
