Review: Great Mix of Hand Stitched & Sewing Machine Projects - I bought this book for my 11 year old, she had recently received her first sewing machine and I wanted a super basic instructional book for a beginner. This book was a perfect fit for her, it provided a variety of different projects that combined both hand stitched and sewing machine projects which she loved. The projects are easy to follow with lots of great photos to help you throughout. The sewing projects themselves are adorable, skill level appropriate and the author does a wonderful job of choosing projects that a beginner would actually want to do. Review: Great purchase - I purchased this for my 12 year old daughter after showing interest in sewing. The instructions are very beginner friendly, the patterns included are practical things that many use daily and it seems to be of high quality paper and binding. Thatโs definitely a plus with children

Good for children and adults
A really good book that kids can use or parents or teachers can use to help children learn to sew. There's not much use teaching only how to use a sewing machine as many sewing tasks including mending, hemming, and sewing on buttons will require some skill at hand sewing and this book teaches those skills. Very clear instructions that build skills in a logical order and allow children to learn how to sew and also make things at the same time. Two drawbacks in the book for me are 1) the use of synthetic felt which only sets up children to create cheap looking items and 2) sewing is taught as something to play at rather than as a real-life useful skill. While I'm all for having fun while creating, there are real skills to be learned and the attitude of just having fun contributes to the problems children have thinking they have to be entertained by everything that comes their way or it has no value. Luckily, I am hoping this attitude is offset by the lovely comments actual children have included that show their pride in learning and in making something new. Also the projects are rather infantile. I could sew better after one lesson from my grandmother. Children can sew much nicer projects with the skills they learn here than are presented. Even so the lessons and presentation order and advice to help children is really excellent. The photos are lovely and instructions very easy to follow. Very nice book if you are an older child who wants to learn to sew or a parent, teacher, counselor, auntie, or otherwise would like to introduce children to sewing.

fantastic book for beginners
I bought this for my 7 year old granddaughter. This is a tremendous first time sewing book. I will be teaching her long distance so I needed something thorough and easily understood. The pictures are very good as well as the text. I like the fact that all the work shown was done by kids. What a great way to demonstrate to kids their work is just fine. The book is broken down very well from what tools to use, how to take care of them, how to use them, as well as the projects. I especially liked the section on how to correct mistakes, great idea! We already used that section & it kept her from being discouraged since she now knows mistakes can be fixed. I used the book to teach her the running & whipstitch, thread her needle & tie a knot before I had to leave but I'm sure the book will help her reinforce everything. She was so excited when she opened a box of scrap fabric from my sewing room that I'm sure she will make lots of projects. This book is so good I am ordering another one for me so I can teach her from a distance. I also bought the sewing machine book & was very pleased with it also.

Excellent intoduction to creative sewing
I sew a lot and my 5-year-old son wanted to give it a try. He had a lot of big ideas about what he wanted to sew, but he was a little scared of the sewing machine. This book is wonderful! My son quickly learned how to thread a needle and knot his thread. He flipped through the book and jumped right in on the wallet. With that successfully finished, he was hooked. He will tell everyone that he doesn't have to buy what someone else made, he can make things himself in whatever colors he wants! Since that wallet, he has patched two pairs of his own pants (and loves wearing them!), mended a seam in his dad's pajamas, made a pillow, crafted two coasters, and sewed an adorable little mouse (named Car). Rarely does a day go by when he doesn't take out his sewing kit. What I like about this book is how open ended the projects are. Kids are free to put seventeen legs on their stuffed animal if they want. Techniques are explained with photographs clear enough for nonreaders to follow along. Basic patterns are included, but there is always the air of "when you do it yourself, you get to do it the way you want."

Awesome book! Perfect for teaching kids to sew and create.
Very cute book. My daughter has shown a lot of interest in sewing and wanting to be a part of making projects on the sewing machine. She is 6, so its hard to include her on many projects. This book will allow us to create many awesome projects together. Many great patterns and full picture instructions. Planning to gift the book with the materials needed to do the projects inside for X-Mas. This would make a really nice gift for a child & mom wanting to learn to sew and spend quality time together. I am sure my daughter will love it. I am planning to include a small cigar-type box, a selection of felt squares, needles, scissors, a ruler, and a small bag of batting, with the book so that she has the materials needed to start the projects in the book.

An okay book
Unfortunately local library did not available to review first. Was going to use for an elementary after school group, but projects weren't what I was looking for. Considered returning, but kept and may donate to library.

Molto molto bello

Great book for beginners like us!
Lots of easy to follow simple projects for young children. My 5 year old needs help but my 7 year old can follow the 1 & 2 star projects on her own more or less. Great for a family like us that are just getting into sewing for the first time. Book is beautiful to look at. Great photos & step by step instructions. Patterns & pockets to hold them. Book lays flat with spiral binding. Highly recommend it. Shipped next day with Amazon.
