This collection proves when it came to T Rex, the US didn't know what they were missing!
I've always flirted with T Rex through the years, but never fully committed to calling myself a fan. But buying this 2 disc collection has solidified me as a true fan of not only the bands music but the true genius that was/is Mr. Marc Bolan. I feel like it's an outstanding summary of retrospect of the dynamic yet eclectic sound that rocked out the 70's and STILL has relevance today.

It's a shame some of the tracks have been HEAVILY compressed
I'm not always opposed to some compression, used well, it can bring some tracks up to date. I've just been comparing 'Cadilac', the uncompressed version I had, and this one. Wow, there's a lot of compression on this one. In Audacity, I can see it has NO peaks and troughs, unlike the original version, it's just a high signal throughout the track, unrelentingly high and just a completely straight line, no peaks or troughs! The weird thing is, this, well, normally, excessive use of compression would make me hate how it sounds but I somehow prefer it to the uncompressed version I had, so I just can't figure that out. I just want to be honest. I guess all I can say is that I wish they had gone just a bit more gently with the compression. Okay, it's a good sounding collection even if compressed, but purists I'm sure won't like it.

The best compilation by far
There are so many Marc Bolan / T. Rex compilations it's so hard to find one or two with all the hits and best of the album material on them. Finally found this two CD set from Universal. Brilliant. Easily the best compilation around of their more popular recordings. Excellent quality, great value for money with 49 tracks. Can't go wrong with this set. Neat booklet inside to.
