Reed Tool MH36 Manhole Cover Hook, 36-Inch - 2303

This is simple. It's a hook. It's not a newfangle 3 legged contraption with chains and hooks and L bar to step on, and that costs $300. It's a hook meant for manholes, not concrete lids, handhole lids, vault lids etc...just manholes. So, it doesn't matter that the duck bill is flat and can bend if enough weight/pressure pounds put on it. You are meant to place the duck bill end through a manhole lid opening, then twist so it catches the under lid metal that runs a circle within the circumference. The weight of the manhole lid should be on the curve, not the tip, as you pull with your legs, not back. By the way, legacy Pacific Bell, or aka Bell System manholes weigh up to 249 lbs...so, be careful.

Not much to say, it does what it was designed to do and the steel is good enough to not allow it to deform under working load, even when prying at stuck / iced over manholes.

Excellent design. Unlike the t-handle round stock hooks, these things are beasts. You'll damage your rotator cuff before you unfold the hook on these things.

It works fine. I was afraid I would rather have bought the one with the handle turned 90 degrees, but this one works just fine.

Not that its bad, but pulling a manhole cover, it’s best to be a little closer, especially when some are extremely heavy. This one is 3ft and I knew this when buying, it’s different when using it..no big deal to me, its made well and hasn’t bent yet

I ordered two cover hooks for my crew. But I actually had to use one myself soon after I received the tools. I'm only 140 lbs. and had to open a 24" manhole cover and a 36" manhole cover. Was easy to use to remove and replace covers. What a back saver!

had a problem lifting 24 in. Cast Iron Square Grate approx 150lbs with my hands almost messed up my back and bruised my fingers i weigh 170lbs and not a very strong guy but found using the hook and using my weight the abilty to easily lift and move the grate cover to clean the drain i am 5ft 8 and found with this length 36 inch to be able to use my body weight to help the lifting

The longer length allows a person to use their legs rather than their back while lifting catch basins and manhole covers. The pointed tip allows it to fit through 1” diameter holes.
