This is my favorite movie

Is Larenz Tate one of the most slept on, talented young black actors in Hollywood today? I have to say YES!! He brings a deep intensity to just about any role he plays. "Dead Presidents" is just more proof of that and this film probably shows the best performance of Tate's career.In this film, he's Anthony, an idealistic young high school graduate from the Bronx who enlists in the Marine Corps in the late 1960s and is shipped off to serve in Vietnam. Along with a couple of his high school buddies, he witnesses horrific violence and death there like he's never seen, comes back home after his tour of duty ends and finds it hard to adjust to civilian life. He finds that after serving his country, his country has very little to offer him in return. This was a dilemma faced by many young men coming home from Vietnam, and one that was even harder on black men like Anthony. He has no job, no money, and begins looking for other ways to support himself. Eventually he finds a job, but it is barely enough to pay the bills. He also has to deal with jealous guys from the neighborhood who envy him for various reasons.Having a young daughter to support and a shady pregnant girlfriend who was his high school sweetheart (Rose Jackson Moye), the financial pressures begin to mount in Anthony's life. As things begin to crumble around him, he then begins to have thoughts of resorting to breaking the law in order to try set things right in his life, and hatches a plan to pull off this high-stakes heist. He enlists his willing friends, who are also looking to get rich quick, in his plot. However, the reprecussions of this plot are deadly.The Hughes Brothers ("Menace II Society", "From Hell") have done a knockout job with this well-written, well-directed film with the Vietnam War as a backdrop and how it affected young black men in its aftermath. But I feel the main point of it was that even the most positive, upstanding and law-abiding person can resort to doing something unthinkable if they are desperate and they are pushed far enough. In that aspect, anyone can relate to this film. Along with Larenz's performance, Keith David, Chris Tucker (who shows he has REAL acting chops in this film - his performance is unforgettable), Bokeem Woodbine and Freddy Rodriquez as Anthony's buddies pull out all the stops to create nothing short of a realistic and dramatic experience for the viewer. The soundtrack is amazing as well. Definitely a must-see.

First let me say this movie to me was well written. Always been a fan of Lorenz tate movies but this one was supported by many actors who gave a great performance. Great story line and true story about many people who had returned from the war with little resources to survive and take care of home. The acting was amazing. I received the movie rather quick which surprise me. I was ecstatic simply because it's one of my favorite movies. I am truly a movie a collector with over three thousand original movies in mint condition. I look for certain things when I buy and receive movies. I look for original packaging, wears and tears on the case and scratches or smudges on the dvd itself. The movie was packaged well and the dvd was in excellent condition. I absolutely had no problems with it. I watched it from beginning to end to make sure it didn't skip or freeze. I watched it on multiple devices, a dvd player, ps3, etc. I was extremely satisfied and will continue to purchase more of the things I enjoy collecting. I considered this a very pleasant experience especially since I had so many negatives experiences with other sites. For example cracked discs, scratches and smudges. The case was sometimes partially destroyed or completely ruin. I've always found buying through amazon to be a pleasant experience and always receive exactly what I ordered in working condition. I've never had to do exchange or receive a refund for a product I was unhappy with. Amazon is the leading sure I use to buy almost everything I purchase while online shopping. I highly recommend using amazon for purchases to anyone who wants exactly what they are looking for. If you are uncertain about a purchase check out the reviews. I have found people to be extremely honest with their experiences.

Another comfort movie for me and they got everything right so I’ll recommend the movie AND the service highly lol good work to Larenz and The Hughes Bros 💪💪💪

The Hughes Brothers' Dead Presidents provides an interesting take on the American experience following the Vietnam war. While many directors have worked with this time period(Hal Ashby, Oliver Stone) this is the first film that deals with the issue from the standpoint of the returning black veteran.Anthony Curtis (Larenz Tate)tries to be a good citizen. He graduates from a Bronx high school and feeling that he is not ready for collge joins the Marine Corps and is sent to Vietnam where he is a member of a special Recon platoon. After serving his counrty he returns to his old neighborhood to find everything that he believed in has changed. Struggling to get by he plans with some friends an armored car robbery.The film is one of the most powerful that I have seen dealing with the return of veterans in a long time. What we get is a universal story not just a black one and the Hughes Brothers are to be commended for this. The film is a period piece and evokes the time in question quite well. If there is a flaw with this film it is that the ending seems a little contrived. The robbery did not have to happen to make this film enjoyable. It was put on simply so that the film could be labeled as an action film. Action sells better than dramas about characters obviously.The disc I viewed was a rather bare bones affair. This is a film that should be rereleased in a better edition on the order of the Hughes Brothers From Hell release. A commentary track would have been appreciated.See this one it's worth it.

メナスと同監督だったためチェックしました、作品自体は悪くないがもう一つ何かが欲しいところ、映像の撮り方はなかなか面白いが顔ペイント、ベトナム戦争シーン含め全体的にややチープに感じる、skimaskだったら違ったかも？そして役者のクリスタッカーはやっぱりオリジナルクリスタッカーで安心するwただdiskがデュアルフォーマットでひっくり返す仕様、これはかなりマイナス。。ただblack movie好きは観といて損はないと思う。
