I wanted a little boat take my wife and our two doggies on water adventures but I didn't want to tow a trailer and store a larger boat so decided on an inflatable raft for quick weekend trips. After reading about rubbery and easily over-inflatable rafts that busted easily, I decided on the Intex Mariner 4 due to reviews describing the material as tough and stiff compared to the others. I figured our pups claws could easily puncture the cheaper ones. Indeed, I wasn't disappointed. It does feel quite rigid and strong. What I love is that It packs into a duffel bag. As others have mentioned, it's very heavy for a single bag so I split the load by putting the roll-up floor into another duffel. Do yourself a favor and get two sturdy duffel bags as others suggest as well.There was just enough room for my wife and I, plus our two dogs and minimal gear (Ice Chest, back pack, towels, etc). Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase. We cut a piece of outdoor carpet to put on top of the roll-up floor just to give it a little more comfort and to keep the doggies claws from ripping up the vinyl. It also made it a little comfier to sit on the floor.Overall, I love it! I'd recommend it to others looking for a tough little raft and I'd buy it again. I agree with all the others that believe this one provides the best quality and value for the price.Minor complaints (not deal breakers but stuff to be aware of):Wish there was just a tad more room. I wanted slightly more room that the Excursion 5 gives you but the higher-quality and tougher Mariner 4 won out.The duffel bag is very thin and flimsy. For the weight that it has to support it should have been thick durable canvas instead of something that feels like paper. I feel it doesn't provide any protection so will upgrade that immediately.I would have preferred that the inflatable seats have the Boston Valves to make them easier to deflate. We didn't take them out the first time which made the raft feel a bit roomier so I probably won't use them much (if at all). I sat on the Ice Chest to get a better rowing angle.There's also no Boston Valve on the center keel so you have to pinch to deflate. I'm just sayin', why not add those nifty Boston Valves everywhere - I would have paid extra.The Oars worked but I had to keep tightening them at the joints. The grip-ends completely slid off at one point so I'll be shopping around for replacements as I don't see them lasting long.It's made in China. Just sayin'Additional Lessons and Updates:1) If you are hand-carrying to the water, splitting the load into two duffels is essential. This makes it easier to carry and put away.2) One of the paddles broke after only the second use. One of the plastic retainer rings broke off and flew into the water. I periodically checked to make sure the rings were securely tightened so it wasn't loose when it broke, it was nice and secure. That leads me to believe that it broke from stress though we were not rowing too hard. Shopping around for replacement options and calling Intex to see if they'll replace.3) Added a Minn Kota Endura C2 40 Freshwater Transom Mounted Trolling Motor (36" Shaft) and a Intex Motor Mount Kit to the mix. This added another 26 pounds of weight to carry. Of course this requires a battery [EverStart Maxx Marine 24DC] to run it so add another 45 pounds for the battery. Lets not forget the That's a total of 71 additional pounds to carry to the water which brings me to the next lesson.4) Added a Farm & Ranch FR110-2 Steel Utility Cart with Removable Folding Sides and 10-Inch Pneumatic Tires, 400-Pound Capacity, 34-Inches by 18-Inches, Green Finish because of the now good-workout 4 round trips from vehicle to water (a) Bag one with raft and small gear (b) Bag 2 with floor, paddles and other gear (c) Trolling Motor and Ice Chest and (d) The 45lb Marine Battery. That reduced to one trip with the Utility Cart.5) Added a Minn Kota Trolling Motor Power Center which only added one more pound. It's a really nice enclosure for the battery that powers the trolling motor and it has a built-in power meter and accessory plugs.6) The cost of additional accessories can quickly add up. So far totally worth it.7) Any boat with a motor or sail operated in Colorado on any public waters must be registered with Colorado Parks and Wildlife. So I have to paid about $35 for the registration and have to do that every year now. I get a sticker to put on the raft plus I have to put the registration number on. I initially did this with vinyl stickers but they don't stay on very well so I'm thinking I'll just use permanent marker when the stickers wear off for next year.**** 1 Year Update ***September 15th, 2014It's been a year and we've used the raft many times. I'm very satisfied with this purchase and would buy it again if I needed to replace it. No problems or any holes yet so I've not needed to use the repair kit. I was thinking of rigging a canopy for sun protection but we just take large umbrellas and that has worked out great. We've never used the inflatable seats that came with it, I just sit on a cooler which works great and is functional storage. The family including the dogs love the raft and adventures it enables. I have been living close to a lake for a few years. I have just recently started taking up fishing as a hobby. I am by means no pro. Fishing from the bank just wasn't offering me any excitement. Yes, maybe a bite here and there, but the water is just too shallow to get anything good. Dock fishing was ok at best. I live near a man-made lake (dam) which all start off shallow for a 15 feet. Deeper water have more of a selection of fish.I searched online for used boats. Everything was out of my price range, or would take a lot of work to get it to be usable. Not to mention I would have to pull a boat trailer around and park it, or pay to store it. This may make sense to some, but I also live in an Apartment. I thought about a Boat Club. $299 a month for a year was steep with limited hours of operation. I don’t like reoccurring expenses. I came across the Intex Mariner 4 Inflatable Boat. It was not the cheapest inflatable, but it also wasn't the most expensive. It also featured 4 people. It would work perfect for the son, wife, and myself.After reading the reviews I was just a little hesitant. Some said the boat leaked air, others got holes in the boat. Spending this amount of money for one time and having problems didn't sound that great. Generally the reviews were great, but the negatives always seem to stand out. What I liked about this boat was that it would fit 4 people. Also it had a floor you can place in the boat to make it more sturdy. I decided to buy it and purchased away. I also ordered a motor mount, 40lb trolling motor, and battery box. I didn’t want to spend my time rowing. I wanted to enjoy the outing.The boat in a two days just in time for the weekend (thanks Prime)! The boat was packaged nicely. I unrolled the boat and inflated it using the hand pump. At first I thought I was going to take while, but It didn’t take more than 10 minutes to inflate. There wasn’t any leaks. I just make sure I had all the plugs screwed in snuggle with the rubber gasket properly. The floor fit perfectly in the boat. The boat looked nice. The motor mount and trolling motor looked great. I purchased a marine battery to use with the trolling motor.The real test was going to be on the open water. I loaded everything in the car with my fishing poles. I drove 14 minutes to the lake. I unpacked everything and began inflating. It was on a gravel surface. I was nervous with it being an inflatable boat, but it didn’t hurt it. I put the floor in and installed the motor mount and motor. I put the battery in and carried to the water. Yes the boat is heavy. I think it is around 120lbs to carry. With two or three people it is easy. You might can get a folding cart to take the boat to the lake, or carry the boat, then the floor separately. I placed the boat in the water. I got in the boat and I was off. It seems to float so that is good. The paddles are good to use to get away from shallow land. Also, good for backup if the battery were to die. After 15 minutes of being on the boat I was starting to feel comfortable and not worrying if we were going to sink. After the first two hours we decided to call it a day. It was windy. We made it to land and deflated the boat. It deflated quickly and was easy to roll up and store back in the trunk for the next adventure. I was excited about it. The boat seems to be well made. It is vary durable on the bottom. Dragging across sticks and rocks (within reason) are ok. I would always carry the air pump, patches, and vinyl boat glue on the boat at all times. Better to be prepared, then not to be.Now since the boat had a motor it is now a Motor Vehicle which it has to be registered with the state. I live in TN. I needed two things. 1. Proof of Origin and 2. Proof of Sale (Amazon). The Proof of Origin was available from the Intex website. You just enter your HULL ID number from the boat and it will generate one for you to print out. Going the DMV to get it registered was almost a hassle. Registering a new boat people seem to think that you purchased it from a boat dealer who does it automatically. No. It was purchased from Amazon. You paid taxes on it (if you have to) already. The Proof of Sale will show that. The DMV will not collect tax money in that case. Now, they have to do something special. They have to create an affidavit saying why you came in and have you sign it to register the boat. 1. The boat did not come with a motor. 2. You modified the boat with a motor. 3. The boat is now a motorized vehicle that must be register with the TWRA. They will print and you will sign. They will stamp a form saying you came here and all is well to mail to TWRA. Then after a few weeks you will get your registration.After going out on the lake a few times I decided I needed a few things. I needed an Anchor. The boat will drift in the wind. Getting a mushroom anchor seemed to help that. You can attach it to your motor mount, or make something to attach it to. The seats the boat came with are ok, but it is helpful to be able to swivel. I was researching boat chairs and I came across a modification website just for this type of boat. You can search for Intex Mariner 4 mods and find the same site. It came me some interesting things like making a wood floor and still make It fit in the trunk, how to install chairs, lights, ect. I am going to make a wood floor, add chairs, and add lights to boat for night. Also, people have trouble with registration numbers sticking the boat. You can get a patch with the registration online you glue to the boat, or make a sign you can hang from the rope. I found plastic (Gutter Gard Cover) for less than $5 that I cut to 4 x 24 that I put my registration on. As soon as I take it out I will take pictures.Overall for the price this boat is great. It makes it even greater that you can put it in the trunk of your car and take it anywhere.

So when I was looking up all the different options and benefits between the navigator the mariner 400 and the seahawk 9 and even a few other knock off brands I decided to go with the mariner 400 I am not going to go into why I picked this particular boat there are plenty of other reviews on here about that. I want to talk about the actual boat, it seams that since this boat came out they have made some great improvements.From 2004-2012Now I am only going off of what I myself have noticed on the boat. The new boats seem to have a more durable bottom then the old ones, including a rubber strip that runs along the bottom for if you run up on the sand rocks or whatever, definitely a lot stronger. The bottom material also is a lot stronger and doesn't rip as easily. I noticed it is easier to put in the hard bottom after filling up the 4 chambers about half way or so. Which takes me to another great update, now we have 4 air chambers instead of just 2.I know it says its made from 3 ply pvc but they have really improved on this concept, the material is much thinner then you might think they have come up with a thinner lighter 3 pvc material which is really great since it is much lighter, the boat itself weighing around 77 pounds it is still heavy and takes some effort to get back and forth but it is lighter because the material is not as thick and heavy but still very strong.The boat itself is about 10 feet long it is actually a pretty good size raft if you are 2 adults some stuff and maybe a kid or a dog that all would fit nicely adding 4 adults gets a bit close but I guess it could work if you really want it to. Much much more roomy then some of the other rafts.Bottom line this is a great raft for the price and quality, if your looking to get the trolling motor and all the things you need to get that up and running then your looking at around $600-$800. I still haven't found a canopy for mine so I believe they don't actually make one for the Mariner 400 but I have figured out away to rig one on.I hope this helps everyone and have fun this summer enjoying life!!!

This boat is a great for campers and family fun. The setup is quick and easy but I would invest in a battery operated pump. The pump that comes with this boat is great but it is manual and some people may get tired inflating the five chambers plus the seats.When disassembled this product may require two people to carry so be prepared. Also you won't be able to carry this in most small car trunks. A minivan, small SUV or larger is your best bet.Once inflated and in the water, the boat rides well and the seats are comfortable. Three men can fit on this with no problem. The paddles are OK but I don't see them lasting very long. I have had this boat for 2 years now and they are still good but are showing some wear.**** 5 year update 07/22/16 ****after 5 years I still give this boat 4 stars maybe even 5. I have since added a trolling motor which will require me to register with the DMV (NY) unfortunately the certificate of origin that is given online is not sufficient for registration in NY. I did some research and found that may had the same problem when they attempted to register their boats as well. I called intex((800) 234-6839) expecting to get no help but I guess by now they have received many calls like mine and surprisingly they took my information (shipping address, phone #, hull ID, etc) and said they would send an original certificate to me and would arrive in 10-12 business days I will update this review then.

Pro's: Solid Craftsmanship, material seems strong and resistant to puncturing.Inflates easily, and pump that comes with it is excellent.The solid floor insert, makes the board sturdy and legal on some waters.A motor can be easily attached with a $25 kit from Amazon.Has a keel which makes navigating waves easier.5 separate air chambers, nice safety feature.Update:You can legally register this boat in Illinois. Just recently got all my paper work for it.Con's: Bag that comes with the boat is pretty flimsily and is starting to tear.When inflating the keel there is no measurement to let you know when that chamber is full. I just guess but I am surprised there is no mechanism to let you know if the keel is properly inflated since the other four chambers have a measurement device.I am constantly amazed at how amazing this boat is considering I only paid $232. I have taken this boat out ten times so far and never had one issue. I've had up to 4 grown adults on this boat but it is a tight fit. Three adults are pretty decent but two is ideal. I first took this boat out on the lake without a trolling motor with four adults - bad decision. I find rowing this boat rather difficult compared to other aluminum and wood boats I have rowed before. The next trip out I attached a 40 lbs Minn Kota trolling motor and my level of fun and adventure on this boat was vastly improved. I have taken this on several lakes and rivers including the Chicago River. Particularly on the rivers, I am glad I went with a 40 lbs thrust.I have heard others gripping about getting holes and punctures on this boat. I am not sure if they had a bad product and/or operator error to some degree. I pulled up on rocky shores and hit pieces of trees on the water. I have not had any problems thus far. Another person in this forum recommended putting a tarp down on the ground before you inflate and deflate this boat - I highly recommend that. I think that is where people are running into problems because when air is in the chambers of the boat it seems to be pretty impervious to punctures. I am still careful though even when it's inflated.For those wondering it takes me about 20 minutes to unload, inflate this boat, and attach the motor mount. The pump that comes with it works surprisingly well. I have nearly every accessory for this boat and was contemplating buying an automatic pump to inflate this boat. However, the pump works so well I decided not to. I followed another person's advice about inflating this boat. I inflate all the chambers to about 30 percent and then insert the plastic floor and motor mount. I then inflate to the recommend amount. The boat comes with a measuring ruler which lets you know when each chamber is full. When each chamber measures 10mm it is fully inflated.I have done 10 hours of research about boats in this price range. I will save you the hassle. At this price point, you cannot find a better deal on an inflatable boat. I highly recommend getting this boat over the Intex Excursion 5. The Excursion 5 has an appealing price point of approximately $130 and fits up to 5 people. It load capacity is higher as well. However, it does not have a factory solid floor insert. The Intex Mariner has a roll up PVC (I believe) floor insert which makes the boat floor solid. This is not only important for stability and function but on some lakes I have been on this is mandatory. I was stopped by the Forest Preserve Police and luckily I had the solid floor insert because the Officer initially thought I didn't have one. I think he wanted to give me a ticket which I heard is around $120. I live in Cook County, Illinois. Long story short, pay the extra $100 and get this boat. From my research, it is much better quality and also many lakes won't allow an inflatable without a solid floor insert. Hope that helps.

This was a birthday present for my 13 year old son. We have been wanting one for years but don't have the garage space and our homeowners association won't allow us to park it outside. Have had it on the water a half dozen times or so now and it's holding up great. Set up is quick and easy and the included high output manual air pump works great. Don't waste your $$$ on a motorized one...it really won't save you any time at all. By the 3rd time or so we took it out we could have it unpacked, inflated, and ready to put in the water in around 12 minutes! I would not recommend more than 3 people. It's cozy with 3 and fishing with 3 is very difficult. I did purchase the motor mount and a trolling motor which in my opinion are a must. I can't imagine spending any considerable amount of time on the water using just the included paddles. Also, I wish there were some sort of integrated cupholders. I'm not knocking my review for that because I knew what I was getting but am leaving 4 stars instead of 5 because it is virtually impossible to repack into the carrying bag it comes in and because if you advertise as a raft for 4, it should fit 4.*** Take care of this raft and it will take care of you! We have now had this raft for 2 years and are into our 3rd boating season with it. We take care to wash and thoroughly dry it after each use as well as store it properly. When we take it to the lake we bring a tarp to place it on while inflating to reduce the chance of punctures from rocks or sticks.All that being said, in the water we have certainly put this raft to the test. It has been drug over rocks, had dogs inside of it, floated across sunken downed tree branches, and it has never had a leak and looks like brand new. I am updating my review from 4 stars to 5. The complaints I had that caused me to take away a star previously are still valid. I just feel like after 2 years this raft has been such a great value that it has earned it's 5th star back!

This raft does the trick! It is easy to set up and easy to break down. I love that it has 5 chambers to make filling it up easy and in case it gets a leak, which it hasn't in a year of ownership, will ensure you can make it back to shore OK. It seems most of the 1 star reviews have to deal with leaks when first getting it. I have had no leaks and it stays inflated for days at a time when we camp. The material it is made out of is very strong and durable. We have hoisted it over rocky terrain and had it resting on boulders without issue.Perfect size for 2 adults and 2 kids. 4 adults would probably work best with each one sitting on the edge of the raft rather than in the middle and you could easily fit a 3rd kid in it if it was just two adults. The three inflatable bench seats are good...I only wish they were quick release valves like the ones on the main body of the boat for quick deflation, but it really doesn't take that much time to deflate them either.The oars are very durable. I wish they were a couple inches longer to make them dig deeper in the water when moored into the oar locks, but the entire system works very well. Getting in and out of the raft is a lot easier than the bigger "professional" river rafts you often see in blue color being run with guides. The narrower body is perfect for navigating smaller river ways. In open water, you don't have as deep a keel as would be optimal for maneuvering, so make sure you have a strong rower in your boat if you are paddling across a lake and the wind kicks up.I don't see what people are talking about when they say they can't get the whole boat in the storage bag, as I can fit it fine. Keep in mind that it is heavy though. I would say that the entire boat in the bag definitely weighs at least 75 pounds and it's large size makes carrying it awkward. It would be nice if the bag straps had more padding for when you put it on your shoulders. Once inflated the boat is pretty heavy and large, so plan your put-in locations well.If you are looking for a 4 man raft, this should be at the top of your list. Lots of fun and priced very nice!

I have an interesting scenario to blame for almost returning the boat due to leaks in two of the chambers. I inflated the boat without the floor in it just to check for leaks over 24 hours period. Chambers 3 and 4 lost pressure in less than 20 hours and I was very skeptic about keeping the boat.So I initiated the return process and seller's customer service responded with a suggestion to soak Boston valves in warm water for few minutes, reinstall and inflate the boat again, checked after another 20 hours and there was no sign of air loss, stiff as English butler all around.Positive:Looks and feels sturdy, well built, but two adults, gear and maybe a child is top, 4 adults only if no one moves.Rope all around and tie down points will come handy.Good motor mount.NegativeBoat bottom too flimsy.Battery and side bags are useless junk, use anchoring points to secure hard battery box and good watertight bag.Oars and locks are fragile, use gently if at all.Hand pump works, but we can do better.Too heavy and balky for one bag, second bag is mandatory to split the weight and make it manageable.All in all, it's a good buy, boat in the back of the truck anywhere, anytime ...... sounds practical and worth the price tag.Update:I tried square base valves and found that none of them fit this boat, some threads measure .866 diameter and others range from .935 to .945.These are way off target to work properly as Intex valve measures .894, all useless junk, something had to be done with existing, round base valves.The reason why round base valve is so difficult to release is simple, there is a fairly hard rubber ring placed into groove of a valve, when it is tightened, rubber has to be compressed in order to seal.Problem with this is that under moderate pressure, ring fills the groove and has nowhere to expand, therefore making tight seal dependent upon how hard valve is driven against the base, rubber forms a seal but also acts as a spring that is hard to brake loose.I tried few different sizes of O-rings in combination with original rubber ring and found one that resolves problem with over tightening and prevents leaks.The product is silicone O-ring (Sur-Seal ORSIL316x25 ), I removed original flat rubber rings from all valves and replaced them with O-rings.This O-ring contacts valve and boat mating part in two places by very narrow band, I can apply moderate pressure to valve and manipulate expansion of O-rings to ensure good seal. The difference is that O-ring expands and contracts without being trapped and constrained by groove in valve body, as a result, releasing valves is a lot easier.Threads on boat are recessed about 1/8" deep, diameter of raised round edge is just about 1 -1/8". O-ring contacts bottom of groove on valve and inner side of the round raised edge of recessed threaded base on boat, this results in O-ring being trapped inside chamber that allows it to expand and contract without confirming to shape of a groove.Package has 25 O-rings but it will be a long time before any of them need replacing.Another thing to be aware of, those 10 CM markings on inside of tubes are absolutely useless in judging inflation pressure.I use rechargeable air pump that gets close to required pressure but cannot over inflate, I finish with about 20 strokes of foot pump in each chamber and use good quality pressure gage to fine tune.Gage reads 0-15 PSI using attachment from junk gage to fit the valves, bleeder button allows for fine tuning pressure in each chamber.

5 stars for the product! Excellent service from the seller regarding delivery (with updates sent by sms). The boat arrived in very good condition. It has a strong bag and as the seller recommends, 35kg are not to be lifted by just 1 person. Just be careful of the zip when the bag is open and you try to fit the boat in the bag. I have cracked one end of the zip already. The boat is very thick and I have used it to go fishing in the sea. The hooks don't make damage (unless the are stuck in some corners or are very big). The floor (that makes more than half of the weight) is made of hard plastic slates which I found a bit too sharp on the edges. Nothing major that couldn't be adjusted with a bit of duck tape (maybe not necessary but I'm fussy to make sure no damage is made). The main 4 air chambers valves, are very good quality made of 2 bit: top bit to inflate and doesn't let air out that screws on bottom bit, and the bottom bit which is just a cap that would wide open the hole. Not even need to deflate the boat. Then there are all the accessories: oars that don't make rust because are made of alluminium amd plastic; manual air pump which is big enough to inflate the whole thing in about 15 to 20 minutes; puncture kit and 10cm ruler that is to be used to measure each quarter of the boat to make sure is not over/under inflated. There is also a couple of pouches, a bigger at the back for the battery and a smaller on one side for gears which can be useful. The only thing that could be improved, is the 5th valve which inflates the bottom of the boat: it's a basic valve like the one that you find on inflatable cushion but bigger and opens easily and loses air. As the sellers says in the description though this IS the choice for an inflatable boat.I hope this will help with your choice.

We got this boat on sale, it was delivered quickly and in perfect shape, no scratches or holes. We've just spent a great weekend tooling around the lake. We paired it with an index motor mount, a 12v 50ah lithium Ampere battery and a Newport motor. All the equipment was easy to set up for my son and I and neither of us are technically inclined. We bought an electric pump but ended up using the enclosed pump as we wanted to inflate it closer to the lake and didn't have a nearby outlet. It took my son less than 10 minutes to get it fully inflated. It's an incredibly comfortable boat, as it's a big air mattress. It also feels very stable. I stood up in it to change seats with my son at one point and it didn't feel tippy at all. It was a comfortable weight for two of us to get in and out of the water but I couldn't manage it alone. I'm a 60+ woman. Probably some people could manage it alone. The boat deflated isn't heavy, it's the solid flooring that gives it heft. Our lake doesn't get really big waves but we took it out on a rough day and a calm day. Both were fine.. The person in the front got a little splashed on the rough day. I would wholeheartedly recommend this boat.

C'est un super bateau, après premier test réussi :gonflable en pas longtemps , lourd car la qualité est au rdv avc un fond rigide ou on réussi à se tenir debout sur l'eau facilement quand à la qualité du plastique du boudin elle a l'aire bien résistante avc un renforcement pour les fortement sur tous le tour ainsi que dessous et au milieu pour bien fendre la vague, merci a intex et Amazon pour une livraison dans les temp malgré la période difficile

Muy buena lancha, recomiendo usarla exclusivamente con motor troleador y batería Lipo4 (bajo peso). Con motor gasolina, el Mercury 3.3hp, no funciona muy bien, requieres hacerle modificación al espejo.
