DB Electrical SBS0044 Starter for John Deere Toro Cub Cadet Briggs HD Version 691564, 693469, 808106

Bolted on and works just like the original! Was easy to install due to placement on our tractor and seems to be pretty durable considering our climate. It fit snuggly where the original was placed and was easy to install.

John Deere Riding Lawnmower owner here. Starter stopped working. It's a few years old, secondhand to me. Check the battery, voltage is great. Try and start it, it'll try for a sec, then stop. Try again and you get the "click" of it trying but not firing. I try bypassing the key and taking the positive to the post on the starter. Nothing. Ok, need a starter. Get the solenoid too, why not. Get the rear of the mower disassembled, get the old one off (looks suspicious to my untrained eye) and install the shiny, beautiful, untouched new one. Packaging was great, looks brand new, no complaints. Try starting it again. Nope, same thing. Ok, maybe the old one wasn't bad, but I'm not pulling out the new one. Check the battery again, voltage is great. Start tearing apart the front of the lawnmower. Get all that done, about to remove the battery to replace the solenoid. ... The negative terminal is loose. Yeah. So I tighten that. Try to start the lawnmower. WOW, turns right over! I'd say with a touch more gusto than it did before, sure, but yeah. The fault was not the starter. It was the idiot turning the key. If either the starter or solenoid go bad, I'm all set! Look at the bright side of things right!

Worked perfectly on a simplicity 20hp (vanguard) (It’s a 16 tooth - so if your replacing yours I’d just verify number first)

Starter looks OEM, went right in, well kinda but that's not the starter's fault. Need a 40 torx to get the bolts out as there is no room for a socket. The front bolt is half behind the starter gear, so you have to be careful not to strip it. You'll also need a 10, an 8, and a good flat head, and of course a hammer, just in case!

The best part about this starter was the price, compared to what John Deere wanted for their own branded part. Be aware, this is not an exact replacement - the mounting bracket is just different enough that you'll have to loosen the oil dipstick tube to be able to maneuver the starter into place. Also, the drive gear guard will have to be stretched a bit in order to fit and it doesn't really look right even though I managed to get it back on there. I have an older JD LT166 with the B&S engine.

At 1/3 the price of a starter from John Deere you can't beat this, starts smooth no mashing of gears, I am extremely satisfied.

This fits the Briggs and Stratton engine model 40H777-0178-G5. No issues works great.

Works great so far. A lot cheaper than a $1000 OEM starter. After 2 years, it's still running.
