Best small sized tank under 2 gallons
I first bought this tank at a fish store (Petco) over a year ago now. We use it to house a single male betta in a small apartment downtown. I was afraid of ordering our second tank online due to the potential for cracks and the like during transit. However, we were pleasantly surprised when the tank arrived in-tact and for less than half what we paid at the store over a year ago. Ok, enough background on to the review:Pros:- Modern/Sophisticated look (especially with the LED lamp turned on)- Includes Filter/Lamp- Durable (keep in mind, it is plastic, so you must handle it with care when changing the water)- With a few plants/decorations, current isn't too strong for a betta (even for fancy bettas, I have a Halfmoon)- PriceCons:- Pump on the filter is not great. Even with proper maintenance, the filter loses power over awhile and should be replaced yearly- Small size = more water changes and maintenance- Plastic (since it is plastic, water buildup will accumulate which is not easy to remove without damaging the material)Overall:This is a great little starter tank for anyone looking to keep a betta. I live in a very small studio downtown, so space is at a premium. The tank fits nicely on my bar counter, which connects the kitchen and living room. Overall, its a great tank. If you are going to keep you betta, having a filter is a must. That being the said, the filter on this unit is OK, not great. However, it is the best setup you can find for under 3 gallons. Because I keep a fancy betta who requires above average water conditions, I still perform partial water changes every 3-4 days and full water changes every 2 weeks. The filters last about 2 weeks, and at 3 weeks are essentially doing nothing. Also, the cover on top has great cut outs for feeding and cables. This unit does NOT come with a heater and you will need to purchase a small one for bettas or other tropical fish.

Great as a starter fish tank
I've never owned any fish in my life because I am always concerned about the amount of work I need to do to maintain a tank. When I finally decided that I wanted a fish, I researched and found that betta fish can be a great starter fish because it requires least efforts. So I got this 1.5 gallon tank, which, according to most online reviews, is the minimum size requirement for a betta. I was a little worried because it only got 3.5 stars, but I think it has all the components that I need: filter, LED light, flat tank surface (for minimum view distortion) and style. I am so glad I got this. It's been a month and my betta is very happy in it, which in turn has made me really happy. I bought so many accessories (gravel, decorations, exercise equipment, assorted food varieties, toys, heater, live plants, thermometer, etc.) since I got my betta (so much for the minimum efforts LOL). I can see myself upgrade this 1.5 gallon tank to a 3 gallon tank in a couple of months and will get an even bigger one after I get more used to the cleaning and water changing routine. The only two negative things I can come up with regarding this tank is that the acrylic surface is easily scratched and the filter is a little strong for this small tank. But both of them can be remedied. To avoid scratches, you need to be careful not to clean the tank with abrasive sponges. I scratched my tank a little because when I gave the tank a sponge bath, didn't notice a small gravel was caught in between my sponge and the tank surface and I ended up creating a long scratches along the front (but it's ok. I am going to upgrade to a 3 gallon one soon). To reduce the strong current produced from the filter, I can always purchase another filter (there are plenty of recommendations of filter for small tanks on Amazon).I highly recommend this tank!

Running nearly 5 years and still going.
I purchased two of these cubes back in 2012 and have been actively keeping Betta fish in them for nearly 5 years now. 1 of the tanks started losing power about 2 years ago. The filter was no longer as powerful as it once was, and the LED light on top grew dim and eventually died. The other one that I purchased at the same time is still running, even as I type this. I am only now looking to replace it. They lasted me a good many years, though they aren't without flaws. The filters are not very strong, which could be seen as good or bad. The water output seemed to be perfect for a Betta, not too much current, but kept the water clean. However, a strange, oily film has always appeared on the water's surface. To this day, I still have no idea what causes it, but apart from it being slightly gross, it has never done any harm to my fish. It's just there. I've never seen it in any other fish tank I've maintained, only in these cubes, no matter what kind of water I've used. The tank is plastic, and it does scratch, which makes removing calcium deposits from the sides of the tank very difficult, and the clear plastic has become slightly cloudy over the years, but nothing too terrible. The LED lamp does appear to dim over the course of several years, but I've successfully kept live plants in good health with only the use of those LEDs.My biggest complaint would have to be that the light and the filter are all wired together, using the same plug, and therefore, the filter cannot be separated from the unit. I have wanted to replace these filters, but can't. I would have to cut the wire to detach it. The filters are just plain annoying. Sometimes they are very loud for such a little filter, they get gunked up fast, and water output becomes close to nothing. The suction cups that hold the filter in place to the side of the tank don't last long. After running for about a year, the suction cups became almost useless and the filter would randomly drop off the side and into the tank, scaring the crap out of my fish. Once it started doing this, it never stopped. Every other day I would have to pull the filter out of the water and smash it back onto the side, hoping it would stay.Overall, these tanks lasted me longer than I thought they would. They are the perfect little desk aquarium, and they've kept my Bettas happy and healthy for years.

Disappointing experience
Tank came with a crack in it. Missed the return window due to this being purchased as a gift and did not check it (that’s on me). This may very well be a good product, but will never know. Box came in great condition so does not look to be damaged by shipper.

I was super excited to get this and set it up in my office. When I went to open the box from the manufacturer, I noticed it had been previously opened. I was even more disappointed when I noticed the bottom had a large crack. Thankfully I was able to patch it with a glue. I’m happy about the tank but disappointed that I paid this much for broken product. I think I’ll stick to glass in the future
