Impressive and Solid Multi-Tool
I, like many of you, have purchased many different multi-tools. Some last longer than others and up until now I was a Gerber baby. When I saw this tool I decided to switch teams. What sold me? The hammer. I have broken several multi-tools trying to use what I thought were sturdy sections of the tool to hammer in stubborn parts on whatever I was working on. Seems a silly selling point, but just that little functional addition pushed me towards owning this. The second piece of brilliance isn't specific to this tool, but this tool really is able to maximise the potential. The bit drivers. I never would have thought thin rectangular bits would be useful or durable, but again Leatherman made me a believer when I discovered this feature on their CX tool. The way the bits are interchanged, the unique way the compartments for the bits are set up....all of this impressed me. I purchased the bit driver assortment pack and have been wowed by how many different applications I can use this tool for now. There are not a lot of features on this tool when you compare it to regular multi tools on the market. What this tool has is what is needed for its intended mission, which is to support feild maintenance on a weapon. I don't need twenty quadrillion hidden tools flaring each and every direction, and that was selling point number three. With its solid construction the MUT benefits from the less is more principle. You don't have to worry about a part breaking down or fumbling for what you need. Everything except the pliars is accessable from the closed position and you can feel how rugged every part of this tool is.CONS:I would prefer if Leatherman adopted the removable triangular wire-cutters that most military Gerbers have. That's just a gripe on my part, but it was nice to know that 1 part on my tool had 3 lifespans before needing replacement. The small bit plastic holder on one side of the tool is way too tight. I feel like I am going to break the tabs when I try to remove the bit. I would like it if Leatherman substituded carbon fiber for the plastic, since carbon fiber has more lubricity and better strength.

SERIOUS Multi tool....MUT...Military utility tool
Wow this is the real deal... it’s so well-made out of the box it’s very stiff and needs to be broken in, I used a little gun oil to help lubricate the points that move. After opening and closing tool a couple hundred times it worked itself into a very easy to control yet still has Enough tension feel, Knife blade is one of the sharpest I’ve ever got out of the box, and the longer screw driver is what’s definitely needed. The knife blade is one of the sharpest I’ve ever got out of the box, and the longer screw driver is what’s definitely needed. The sheath that it comes with is very High quality however I think that’s the one part that’s not made in the USA. No complaints on the sheath other than where it’s made. This seems a little heavy for every day carry but so far I’ve carried it last week everywhere I went with no issues and after a day or two forgot It’s on me. The sheath fits my 2 inch tactical belt perfectly using the Molly to Cinch it down. The clip that comes on the tool itself is a little smaller and more for a pocket then a tactical belt. I would definitely recommend this with the caution that it is bigger and heavier than most but that’s why love it I’m not sure my dad would carry it but I’ll carry it everywhere. I took a picture with my raptor shears to show the size.

Leatherman MUT Review
I really like this multi-tool. I have had many Leathman tools since they were first released and the quality has always been good. The MUT is definitely designed for a specific need and I would not recommend it being used as an everyday carry for civilian use. I have had this tool at the range twice and it has proven its usefulness. When I used the tool to quickly break down my son's AR, the range masters stopped by to see the MUT. They liked what they saw. The MUT has been so useful at my work bench that I am considering picking up a second stainless version to keep handy at our work bench. My only negative is that the grip when using the wire cutter/pliers is a bit tricky for those with large hands. The issue is that there are a few sharp edges at the ends of the plier handles, especially at the bolt assist that dig into the palm of my hand and glove pretty good. It will take a little time to get use to this. As mentioned in another review, the MUT is a bit tight to operate at first. I put a couple of small drops of CLP at the hinge points and wiped away the excess. Works perfectly.

Tactical and practical
I know that this is specially designed for use with my AR-15/m4, but I find myself using this little guy everyday for any number of jobs. And hey, when I do get out to the range, i will have it with me. I must say, my ARs seldom misfire when I use the high end ammo. If the control freaks in Govt have their way, I will only be able to afford the cheap stuff and then the MUT will be a little more useful for that application. The clip keeps it in my back pocket and very handy. The knife is damn sharp. The bits that come with it can fall out and be lost. The bits little keeper mechanism can easily disengage. They are cheap to replace, but inconvenient to do so. It is modular, so you can relace most parts if needed. The Mut has a lock to keep it shut, which is useful. I used to carry a leatherman Crunch but I keep it in the truck now and the MUT is "on me."Overall, very pleased.
