Frustrating experience so far!
Before purchasing THREE of these speakers, I read reviews here and watched review/setup videos on Youtube. While there have been some positives in my experience so far, the negatives hold the lead. First in the complaint list is an unbelievably weak manual (tiny pamphlet) which in my view assumes that the user is as technically savvy as the developer. The first setup was a BEAR, but I made it through. I am NOT an advanced tech user by any standard, but I am an intelligent individual. Setup should NOT be a totally frustrating experience for a user's first out-of-the-box experience with the product. In fairness, the remaining setups were easier than the first. My greatest difficulty with the speakers however, is that I can count on them to cut out frequently - drop the signal - or whatever may be the correct terminology for "quit working." Yes, I have tried suggestions in the troubleshooting section of the online manual (also a difficult read for me). Yes, I have read FAQ's that I can find. Yes, I've emailed support for assistance. To give credit, I received a response from support within 48 hours. It was the same advice to be found elsewhere online, however. While the assistance did help some, the problem persists. My home is a TINY condo, and anywhere I place them is "close." I turned them on just prior opening Amazon to write this review. While I've been typing, the speaker located the furthest away (twelve steps into the kitchen on a wall away from appliances), has had to be restarted. On the positive side, when they are all working as they should (and this can be anywhere from a few minutes up to 2.5 hours so far), they sound wonderful. To be able to move from one end of my home to the other with the same music playing softly in each area is a real luxury. They are small enough to be placed inconspicuously. While control by phone or other device is somewhat limited, having the ability to adjust volume, pause, skip selection or change listening station is a positive. My turn to host a monthly gathering of friends for cocktails comes soon. I'll not be humiliated if one or more of them crash at my party... but gosh... wouldn't it be nice not to worry about the music at all?UPDATE on July 10, 2016: I'm not at all certain which of the several steps I've taken to improve the performance of these speakers may have actually worked, but to give credit where it is due, they seem to be doing fairly well. Make no mistake, they are not perfect, by ANY measure, but I am glad to report that I am really enjoying them now. I will also add that I now own FIVE of them. And as I said in my previous review, to move from area to area of my tiny home and hear the same music playing softly in the background is SUCH a luxury! The battery life per charge has lost some ground since my first purchase. All considered, I'm happy to add two stars.

Nothing compares for our needs
We bought two of these for our family after extensive reviews of airplay speakers available. I love quality sound, but in searching for a affordable wireless speaker I was willing to compromise as these were primarily for use with our kids (1, 2, 4, 7) in order to make bedtime easier. We go SO much more than we bargained for, and now use these all around the house. Before receiving these speakers, we were still using Spotify and/or Pandora stations for bedtime music, but were tired of tethering our phones or iPads to A/V inputs on their speaker every night. What a waste of an iPad. We needed a simple way to accomplish something that use to be simple (like pressing play on the CD player). We didn’t want to have to “set up” the music every night. So besides being airplay enabled, our primary need was the ability to stream wirelessly to more than one speaker at a time, which was the kicker (iTunes does this, but iOS does not. We did not want to use iTunes because (1) our music was not on iTunes and (2) I don’t want to open the laptop just to put on music). For a while we used Air Parrot (another desktop application) to stream Spotify to multiple speakers wirelessly (via a Chromecast Audio device, $35, and an old AppleTV box). Again, annoying and NOT simple.Enter DOSS. As far as the product, we have gotten everything we needed and much more:-The sound is fantastic for a $100 speaker. Sometimes I feel it’s a little too bass-y, and an equalizer would be a welcome addition.-We carry these speakers all around the house. You simply lift it up off the dock (no pulling, prying, unplugging) and it will play virtually all night or day off the charging station.-I didn’t think much of the 6 preset buttons on top when I ordered this (so limiting, right?), but holy smokes these are convenient. Now when we put the kids to bed, we push ONE button (an actual button, not a 5-10 taps on a screen) and we’re instantly streaming one of our stations. I didn’t get it until we used it. “Vintage” feature in a modern device than enhances both.-The multi-mode is awesome (both speakers play same music, one L channel, one R, or both L+R), and it’s effortless to switch back and forth between single and multi-modes. Not a perk I was looking for, but cool and practical due largely to the portability of the speakers.-Customer service is second-to-none!!! When we first got our speakers, one connected immediately and the other would not. It was broadcasting a wireless signal (SSID) but it was locked/password protected. So weird. Customer service was prompt to respond, and got one of their engineers involved as they’d never encountered this problem. They immediately shipped me a new one (before I even sent mine back). Once I mailed the bad speaker, I sent them the shipping receipt and they reimbursed me the same day for shipping via my Amazon payment method.-Oh, and an alarm clock function that allows you to set the wake station and volume.Overall, this is the most seamless setup for the best price (and best sound) we have found. Better (or competing) options are bound to come along, but nothing out there yet. This device is not perfect. Some of the tradeoffs (which are well worth it for us) are:-While it works to stream Spotify, you can’t technically do this through the DOSS app (and Spotify cannot be used as a preset--if you could, this would be a near perfect device for me). The DOSS Spotify button takes you to the Spotify app (which, thanks to Spotify, isn’t much extra work).-While the product is really pretty polished (design and engineering) compared to other things I’ve seen, some things make the product seem a little clunkier than it actually is...like how the app opens up to a set up screen (“searching for DOSS Wireless…”), that looks completely different (less slick) the rest, which looks pretty good. Also, the chimes and voices that let you know the speaker is being responsive are sometimes too much (every time you turn it on, it has to connect to wi-fi and he let's you know each step). The chimes aren't bad, just a little too long and annoying.-App functionality is very good, but navigation could probably be more clear. Once you figure everything out it’s great.-The DOSS tagline is awkward, “Just for Perfect Music” which sounds like a bad translation that doesn’t quite work in English. No big deal for me, just for them.Overall, super impressed!! And GREAT service!

Far superior to bluetooth speakers, and really easy to set up and use.
First, Doss emailed me their updated manual prior to receiving the product. I thought that was a great customer service move. The product was SO easy to set up though, I didn't even read the manual. We switched back and forth between Spotify Connect (android phones) and airplay(iPhones) all weekend depending on who wanted to DJ, it just seamlessly jumps control from one phone to another. The battery makes it perfect to carry outside by the fire, and the battery life was better than expected given its sound quality. For years we struggled with bluetooth speakers, when the DJ would walk out of range, the speaker would shut off, so you always had to leave your phone sitting around, sometimes with strangers about, to keep the music playing. This is not a problem with these WIFI speakers, we could leave the music running and even leave the house, go to the store, etc, and the music kept playing on the Doss speaker. My only feedback would be that I'd like to see Play-Fi support so you can combine this wifi speaker with others from other manufacturers.

Security Concerns, Not yet compatible with iOS 9
This speaker is great for the price point, however the internal DOSS SSID it broadcasts can't be disabled. Even worse is it bridges your internal network to its SSID, so unless you find the buried setting to secure the DOSS SSID with WPA2 you are exposing your internal wifi network to attacks through this speaker. I was able to connect to the DOSS SSID and access things in my network as well as the Internet. This is a huge oversight in my opinion. I would have kept this if I could have disabled the internal SSID. You also cannot change the channel in which it broadcasts or otherwise configure it.I also found that the iOS9 AirPlay implementation was broken with this device. Although Airfoil worked fine with it.I returned it.
