My jug is marked 'made in china', not in stoke-on-trent, england, as stated above under 'manufacturing process'

Yea, mine says the same. Unfortunately Portmeirion has some of their China. Ow made there, but it is under their specifications— not a cheap Chinese imitation. I have used my jug many times a day for years now, and it is still is in perfect condition. So, do not worry about it being inferior quality, even though you are disappointed.

Does the handle get hot in the microwave?

No. I heat water in the microwave to boil, and the handle temperature is fine.

Is this measuring jug heat and thermal shock resistant?

Yes. I've used it for along time

What country was this made in?

China, but made exactly to Portmeirion specifications, and matches pieces made in England.
