New, Improved, and more complicated!
Our family got the "small box" version of this game (about 6 or 7 dollars) and fell in love with it. The beauty of that version is that the gameplay was fun and quick to pick up, and it was a great game to share with groups, even fairly large groups, with minimal rules. Players try to construct hilarious headlines using 5 random word cards that are dealt in each hand (though this version uses up to 7 cards). It is really fun and simple. This version adds more content and more complexity, but I found it to be worth the time to reeducate myself on the updated rules. There were a few quibbles we had with the small box version. It seemed that if you had a bad hand, you'd fall behind with no hope of catching up, and sometimes you'd get a hand that couldn't be played because you didn't have a subject or you didn't have any verbs. You'd get a lot of repeat words because you shuffled the whole deck between rounds. And with the small box version, there was no way to keep score built into the game (you needed a pencil and paper to tally scores). It seems designers took a second look at their popular game and 'fixed' some of these problems. This "Deluxe edition" version has many more cards, more complex gameplay (but still simple to pick up) and a score keeping system and game board. I think it is even more fun to play than the original, once you get the hang of the changes, but not quite as simple.*If you've played the Small Box version*I like this version a lot. in the Deluxe Edition, instead of mixing all the cards together, verb/action cards are red and adjective/subject cards are blue. There are many more cards, but favorites like "340lb" remain. Each round, 3 common red verb cards are flipped face up for all players to make use of. Like a game of poker, each player may use these common cards to create their best hand. With this gameplay mechanic, it is much more likely that every player gets a playable hand.Gameplay is also sped up in this version. By introducing more cards, the deck no longer needs to be collected and shuffled between each round. Also, cards can now be retained in your hand between rounds, and players replace the cards they played immediately, so by the time everyone has played their hand, the next round can begin with discards. This is a small change but it makes the pace of the game seem quicker, and I like it.The board is really not necessary, but it is nice, and lends some organization to the game, and has a score keeping ring around the edge so you don't have to use pencil and paper. There are some rule changes. Exclusive cards no longer double your score, there are now three types of exclusives. One allows you to discard up to your whole hand instead of just 3 cards. Another gives 25 extra points. And the last allows you to use a verb card that others don't get to use. This adds unnecessary complexity, IMO, but I could get used to it. Also, the point values are reduced (5-20 points per card) and you can use up to 7 cards( 2 red verbs and 5 blue subject/adjective cards).Overall, I like this "Deluxe Edition" better than the "small box" version, but I think I'll keep both. The small box version allows you to take a load of laughs anywhere you travel because of its small form factor. The Deluxe Edition is a great game to keep at home or take to a friends house, but perhaps play with a smaller group due to its slightly increased complexity. You'll have to take more time to explain the rules than the small box version, but still fewer and most other games. If you liked the small box version, you'll like this one too, and you get enough additional content that it doesn't feel like a waste to rebuy. If you haven't bought either yet, I recommend this one due to the larger number of cards. Either will provide many, many laughs and a very fun time for a wide variety of age groups.

An updated version of the game
I have the original version of this game with just the cards. This new version adds a board, along with fill in the blank cards that you can fill in with anything. Be afraid - be very afraid. In each round, there are now two cards that everyone can use as part of their headline. So headlines can now have up to seven cards instead of five. The board allows you space to place your headline. The game has more cards than the old version. Markers are included to fill in the blank cards. There are a total of ten blank cards. Each is worth five points.First player to reach 500 or more points wins. A fun game that still allows you to be creative and have some laughs.

Fun and Educational
This game is very fun! I am an English teacher and we play this at home and at school. We laugh at the funny creations we make and the kids get lessons on actions, adjectives, verbs, and nouns. A little math is thrown in when we add the scores up. It is a nice break from lecturing and lets the players get creative. We have played with adults and boy can that get interesting! The discussions that get started with if they are valid headlines or not can get intense! A fun spin my students and children do is to make short stories out of the headlines. This is a great creative way to engage them in using their imaginations! Thank you so much for this game!

NOT a game for children!
HIGHLY inappropriate game for children, needs to be marked for adults or those over 18 years of age!!The box says for ages 8 and up (though the manufacturer says ages 36 months and up), so there we were playing with our young kids and out pop cards that say, "stripper, sex appeal, drunk, lover, mistress, hell, naked, caught kissing, stabs, killer, kills, slaps, beats up, etc. "

Deluxe Equals More Laughs
My family loves the travel version we purchased years ago, so when I saw there was a deluxe version, I bought it immediately. We were not disappointed. Love all the new cards and the addition of the set verb cards made for an interesting twist. We found the scoring method using the pegs to be a pain and opted to keep score on paper instead. Really, the board was somewhat pointless, other than to keep things somewhat organized. Other than that, it was a huge hit. If you like the travel version, you'll love the deluxe.

Great inexpensive party game
Amusing card game with just enough 'believability' factor to the headlines to make them seem truly ridiculous. I ordered the version on this page and got the deluxe boxed edition, with folding game board and all. For the TINY price I paid, I was expecting the travel box, so getting a big-box version was quite nice. The board isn't really essential, but makes it easier to track score and game layout. Good game for idle time, good game for drinking, and overall, a lot of amusement and gameplay in an inexpensive package.

Fun game. Great addition to game night.
Great game for a friendly game night! Be as creative as you like. As long as the headline you create is believable, you'll rack up the points quicker than you think! Recommend this game to anyone who regularly plays board games with friends or family. I've played it with just 2 people so far and it was still fun despite not playing with a group!

Great for game night
We have played the original version of this. Adding the board is pretty cool. The extra cards are nice, I think the only thing is that we wished they didnt have the same cards from the smaller set, or adding more new card. But either then that. It's a fun game. One of our favorites
