Pat smear needs no introduction. He has been in the vanguard of music history his entire career, from the early years As a founding member of the seminal punk band “the germs”, to his Stint with the legendary nirvana, and on to his current role laying down colossal riffs for the foot fighters. Ahlstrom has been his instrument of choice since the 1970’s, creating a deep and authentic bond that has lasted decades. Ahlstrom guitars was honored to be given the task of transforming his privately customized and road-proven vintage angstrom into the Pat smear signature guitar you see here. An additional source of pride for us is that the Pat smear signature guitar you find at your angstrom dealer is identical to the one Pat plays night after night on some of the largest stages in the world. This slick Black beauty is a voluptuous blend of vintage angstrom h-ion-opt and modern-day super Swede. Its sleek mahogany body and deeply contoured maple top provide a deep, projecting platform for angstrom' S Custom 58 Alnico humbucking pickups, enabling the guitar to cut through the mix and sit right in the middle of the foo’s triple-guitar onslaught. Elegant, clean tones meet highly saturated distortion. Just what Pat ordered. All angstrom electric guitars and basses include their patented h-expander truss rod. Providing tension at both ends and running The entire length of the neck, The rigid yet light-weight alloy truss rod allows for a very low action and thin neck, two factors that were instrumental in earning angstrom its reputation as the world’s fastest playing guitar. The h-expander truss rod not only provides ultimate neck stability, but it also contributes to angstrom' S unique tone. Longer sustain and a round attack are some of the Sonic characteristics The h-expander adds to the tonal essence of angstrom.

Hagstrom RULES!
Love this guitar! Plays well, feels great. Built like a Swedish tank! A tad heavy, but acceptable. The chunky tailpiece is sexy and easy to string. Everything about this guitar is solid! It will survive an apocolypse! This is my 2nd Hagstrom and I am hooked!

great sound, good construction
pros: great sound, good construction, nice price.cons: I am not too crazy about the raised pickguard. the jack is in a weird spot as is the upper strap button. the strap I have doesn't rest right with it.

Fantastic guitar.
I've been a guitar player for over 20 years, and I'm a bit of an addict guitar collector. I've owned many guitars by Gibson, Fender USA, Parker, G&L, ESP, Epiphone, etc. I have high standards when it comes to quality, and I know a well-made guitar when I pick one up. I’ve never owned anyone’s ‘signature’ guitar before and I didn’t seek this one out. I stumbled on the Pat Smear Hagstrom in a small local guitar shop and I simply couldn't put it down. The store had a couple other Hagstroms in stock but this one was in a league of its own. It came home with me and has been a favorite since, and I smile every time I pick it up. This guitar came from the factory with a nearly perfect setup (for me – your mileage may vary). The body is mahogany with a carved maple cap and set mahogany neck. This thing is one HEAVY guitar, quite a bit heavier than even my Gibson Les Paul Studio, and EVERY BIT as good a player. I was shocked. Despite the low price and the Made in China sticker on the back of the headstock, they didn’t skimp on ANYTHING on these. As Hagstrom’s website says, this guitar really is “pro quality, ready to take on world-tours”. Great resonant bridge with roller saddles, smooth high-quality pots, perfectly cut black Tusq nut, and solid tuners. Factory strings were D’addario 10s. You can tell that whoever is doing the factory fret dressing and set-up on these is a true pro who knows quality work. The guitar is buzz free and came with perfectly smooth fret ends. I have NEVER seen frets this nice on a guitar even close to this low price point. The “Resinator” fretboard is made of heat-compressed wood and resin. It looks like ebony, and plays like glass. So smooth and nice. The block inlays and cream binding give it a classic look, both faultlessly done. The black glossy finish looks great. At the bridge, each string passes through a solid brass ‘sustain block’. These blocks are mounted individually to steel and Plexiglas plates that are screwed directly into the body. This makes for brilliant lively resonance and long sustain. Playing chords or individual notes unplugged, the guitar just sings. Plugged in, it gets even better. Rich bluesy tones are easy to find with the neck pickup, and the bridge pickup is great for thick leads and high gain territory. Some may nitpick the selector switch on the pickguard, but I’ve really come to like it. Good placement without having to reach to the upper horn. The top strap location (underside of the horn) doesn’t bother me at all, but won’t be good with a wide strap. No biggie. The guitar is super comfortable to play sitting or standing. The only cue to this being a ‘signature’ guitar (other than Pat’s barely legible scrawl on the back of the headstock) is the blue circle around the pickup switch – a nod to Pat’s original punk band, the seminal Germs. The guitar doesn’t come with a bag or a case, but I immediately found a rectangular hard case for mine. This guitar deserves it. Bravo Pat, I like your style. 10/10.
