Clairol Professional Beautiful Collection Advanced Gray Solutions

I am reviewing Professional Clairol Advanced Gray Hair Solutions, after I first tried the moisturizing version with zero results (it is really designed for non-gray). I am 35-40% silver with fine virgin hair. As a former Cosmetologist, I have become highly sensitive to chemicals from years of exposure working in them. I typically cannot color my hair at all without some sort of negative reaction. I was a long time fan of Clairol's gentle Loving Care line before it was ultimately discontinued. I had been able to use it successfully for years without issue. If you want the short version, I am thrilled to report this product appears to be a fairly close comparable spinoff of Loving Care. Free of ammonia, peroxide, and other harsh chemicals and tints gray successfully. Just stop reading right here and get it!👍 I first tried the Toasted Hazelnut, the lightest color in this line. The goal being three-dimensional high and lowlights (I used a highlighting cap to achieve this). My existing natural dark, leaving some of my natural silver, and applying the toasted hazelnut color to coat the silver areas of choice. I washed my hair with a clarifying shampoo, so the color would have the best possible chance to coat the hair shaft. I allowed the color to stay on a full 45 minutes, per other reviews. Also, remember my hair was completely resistant to the other color. I wanted it to work! Since this product uses O2 technology, allow air to reach your hair, rather than using the typical plastic cap. The Advanced Gray Solutions version is much thicker. The color is more condensed and resulted in a successful tinting of color on my grays. Expect tint. I also think this formula smells much more pleasant than the mousturizing version. Toasted Hazelnut for me is a pale caramel (see first photo). I will continue to play with other colors in this line. Darker colors may coat and hold somewhat better. (UPDATE!!) Since my original review, I started mixing Espresso Bean and Burgundy Brown. It is bomb! I absolutely love it (see second photo)! It's rich and natural and covers quite well. This has become my favorite combination, by far 😍 Overall, I am so happy to say the advanced gray version does a great job. I have zero issues using the product. I do not experience the usual dizziness, headache, irritated scalp, or throat that I normally experience with color. Hooray!! An option for very sensitive people. The scent is pleasant in my opinion (for color) and quite tolerable to my very sensitive nose and breathing. It rinses off of skin quite easily. Easy to apply using a standard plastic bowl, applicator brush, and latex gloves. No staining, or mess (just use an old towel). Product rinses from my hair quite easily (use cool water to retain color longer) with no offensive fragrance. My husband loves the light scent it initially leaves behind. I found that quite unusual and pleasant. I do wish the results lasted longer. I always notice a loss of color from one shampoo. I typically shampoo once/twice a week. It lasts through 4-5 shampoos total for me, still leaving a very light tint by that time. Therefore, I reapply every couple, to 3 weeks. This has truly been a game changer for me. An excellent hair color product for sensitive people in my honest and professional opinion 😊 Yes!! Thanks so very much, Clairol. Please don't stop making this one!!

This product works really well at covering grays. *If used correctly* I have thick hair and stubborn grays I use this as a root touch up Second Try (same bottle) Applied to clean DRY hair I left the product on for a little over 60 min. I washed it out with cold water until the water ran clear and didn’t use any shampooo/conditioner as directed. First Try I left it on for the minimum time required and I rinsed it out with very warm water and washed with conditioner after. It didn’t cover my greys at all it just added some light color leaving in longer made it look a bit darker which is fine because I have natural 4N hair and I used 6N

I like the color. It's a nice brown. I'm about 60% gray with most of it in the front and a weird silver stripe down the back of my head. It did pretty well with coverage and the only reason I gave it 4 of 5 stars is because its alittle lighter where my gray is thicker. But it's not obvious. I get it. Where my hair is lightest, it would be lightest. My daughter said it looks like Suttle highlights and gives a more natural appearance. Thankfully it didn't come out red or brassy. I was worried about that and am pleased with the medium brown tone.

I recently decided to grow out my natural hair color, but at about 6 weeks of growth from a shaved head (left pic), it became apparent that I had a giant patch of gray hair in the front (front left in the pic). I wanted a color as close to my natural as I could find, and with such short hair it's pretty much impossible to dye just the grays without touching the rest. I used this dye in 6N Toasted Hazelnut over my entire head of virgin light ash brown hair, and I think the results in the right pic speak for themselves. My hair is definitely more reddish now, but I think that's to be expected when you put a neutral tone over an ash tone. The pic on the right is 2 weeks (4 washes) after coloring it. I washed my hair (did not condition), used a Turbie Twist to soak up the excess moisture, and then applied the dye to my damp hair. I let it process for 30 minutes under a shower cap held close to my head by a Turbie Twist before rinsing it out, and then used shampoo and conditioner as normal (I use Moroccanoil Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner). Here are a couple tips I've found from using this color: 1. Apply conditioner around your hairline before coloring or the dye will stain your skin (this particular color made my skin look red like I was having an allergic reaction). I've tried vaseline instead of conditioner in the past with purple Arctic Fox hair dye, but then my hair felt super greasy until after a few washes. 2. While it's totally safe to leave a semipermanent dye like this in your hair for hours (or even overnight) if you want because it doesn't use developer, I found that this color ended up significantly darker if I left it in for hours compared to just 30 minutes.

Color works fine at first. I was happy with grey coverage and the color. But doesn’t last long. Color fades and grey hair appears fairly quickly. In my opinion, there are other drug store brands out there that do a much better job that are about in the same price range.

This is a great hair coloring product even for gray hair. This product does not damage your hair and makes it silky shiny

This hair color is marketed as a semi-permanent option with no developer/peroxide, but it is not the same as a color-depositing shampoo and is nowhere near as gentle. While it's true you don't have to add a developer, whatever the "oxidation" process is which is loosely described on the label, it smells exactly like developer when it's on your head (typical box color fumes), and you can expect the same results as you might get from a demi-permanent color like Natural Instincts. Depending on how healthy/damaged your hair is to begin with, and how long you leave the product on, you will be altering hair texture, and be prepared to have this color for a long while. It does NOT wash out easily/quickly, or at all. The limited range of tones available combined with strong effects means you are taking a huge risk. There are some great results in the photos from other reviewers, and I'm glad that for some people who know what they're doing/get lucky, it worked out. But be very careful, and if you do try it don't overdo it on the application time. I was excited to try it based on those results pics, but now I am stuck with a tone I don't want and it's not washing out at all, so I'm back on the hellish journey of trying to correct bad home color. There's a reason it's so inexpensive.

I'm mostly gray, but the back of my head is still my natural, so it's not a good/natural mix - it looks like I slept face down in a bowl of peroxide. lol. My stylist is nice, but always wants to dye my hair blonde to "blend" the gray, and it washes me out. I hate it. I tried asking for low lights & let me use my own gray for the highlights, but that didn't work. Besides that, with covid, I don't want to spend hours in a busy salon. I've colored my own hair, but dislike the permanent color & the harsh root line as my hair grows. Hate the unpredictable color. But have you tried buying semi permanent lately? It's SO hard to find. Enter this little $7 bottle. I have shoulder length hair & can get 2-ish treatments per bottle. It shampoos out & you can redo whenever the fading bothers you. I get 4-6 weeks. At first, I thought it was "good enough," but I'm on my 3rd-ish bottle & have a system now & can say it works great. #1- get a brush to put the dye on your roots (if not all) because you'll waste way less product. If doing your whole head, I like to brush on at the roots & then work more through with my hands to make sure it's all saturated. #2 - if you're gray or have hair that doesn't take color well, leave it on longer than 30 min. I did an hour last time & it's the best it's ever been. #3 - Put a shower cap on while you wait. I think the heat from my scalp helps set the color. (Got this tip from a stylist's review for a different wash-out color product.) I love that I can use what I need, then close the lid & save the rest for next time. I've gone from $200 3-hour color appointments to $2, 90 minutes total in the comfort of my own home & I'm never going back! I'll find something else to do with that $198. 😂

I haven’t dyed my hair in 8 months, thinking I would go grey. With 50% grey, my skin tone was starting to look sallow. I decided to try a semi permanent dye, hoping that if I didn’t like it, it would wash out. The Toasted Hazelnut colour went on very dark brown, so I was a little concerned about the outcome. But after rinsing, it is a beautiful, shiny neutral light brown. No brassiness, only conditioned soft hair! I love it!

This was exactly what I was looking for. I did follow another person suggestion and used a natural colour. It covered my gray perfectly.

Tried this for the first time and am not sure what to say. I wanted to go lighter than my own shade so I picked a color that was probably three times lighter than my natural hair, but when all said and done, my hair is even a quite a bit darker than normal. The dye went on nice and easy though. I'll have to try something different to get the results I want.
