My new favorite jeans
I have always worn Levi's 501 jeans and they have suited my needs just fine. But I also always had a bit of a belly and needed the waist level fit. So for a very long time I have been a 40x32. Well I have lost a lot of weight and slimmed down and the waist level did not fit me well anymore. So much research I did and over and over I read that the 514 jeans were most people's go to jeans. I gave them a try and I am in love with them!! Honestly the material is softer than the 501s and the fit is much more fashionable. I am now a 36x32 and these jeans add not only style but great comfort. They fit nicely to my body without being too snug and I am able to effortlessly move around as I need. There is a very slight stretch to the fabric but I am not so sure I would actually call it "stretch" rather than a less rigid material then the heaver 501s. The below the waist fit is so comfortable to wear and the fit in the rear and crotch is great. These jeans look fantastic for a very casual look all the up to a dressier look that I often wear with a nicer shirt and some colored flannel running shoes. For me the l501s were just basic jeans and not very fashionable. The opposite here. I love these jeans. I must say that if you have an excessive belly or gut these do indeed sit below the waist so you need to decide what you are comfortable with. I will not take a star off for this but I did buy 2 pair of the exact same 514 jeans and found one pair fit great while the other was a little too snug. I have learned to do this whenever ordering Levi's now. You can have pairs of the exact same jean, exact same size and the fit will differ. But do what you need to to get the right fit and it will be well worth it. Now I am honestly so happy to just get up and toss on my jeans and know I will look good and be very comfortable. Now I will only wear the 514s!

Hole formed in around the back pockets after only 3 weeks.
I liked these jeans and the way they looked on me. They felt good and fit good but after only a few weeks a hole started to form around the back pockets. Another week later and the hole was large enough to be noticeable to someone standing behind me. After that I came on here to try to return them since they're obviously defective/poor quality but by that time I was too late. NO RETURNS.UPDATE: I took the jeans to have the holes stitched up, cost $10. I wore them for a few more weeks and holes started to form in the crotch and pockets. While a good design, the quality of the stitching could not be any worse. You're spending $40 on some worthless rags. Don't buy them.

Go buy in a brick and mortar store to avoid headache.
I ordered a pair of Levi's 514 in black. Mind you I've been wearing this style and color for a number of years. The first pair arrived on time and fit great...except the left leg was noticeably an inch shorter. Then I returned the item and got a second pair in exchange...which were so baggy and long that I had to double check the size. The sizing label was correct but this pair was very long and wide so I exchanged the item again for a third time. Low and behold this pair is even worse. At this point I am so aggravated with the experience that I am never going to purchase apparel online again. I bought the pair I needed from the Levi's Outlet and they fit as they should even though the size and style are supposedly the same... To add injury to insult, a customer service rep contacted me after I returned the second pair and I was told that I was bumped up to free one day shipping for the third pair. The jeans arrived three days later...

Very inconsistent fit and durability (among 4 pairs currently owned)
This review follows the purchase of my fourth Levis 514s, a pair in 32x30 Rigid Grey. Between them, they've demonstrated vastly different fits and levels of durability with just one pair being about right. These latest jeans aren't bad but the legs seem to be the baggiest of the bunch and maybe a touch longer. And though I haven't actually measured them, it could just be the stiffer fabric that makes them seem that way.One of my first pairs had both knees wear thin and rip, while another's legs are a touch short. The final, and my favorite jeans, fit just right and are one of the lighter weight (though darker blue-black) fabrics in the line.A final, fifth pair I donated when I realized I'd ordered the wrong waist size, 31 vs. 32. Since it was only one inch too small and had already worn and washed them a few times, I thought I'd try to live with it and see if they'd break in and loosen but they never did. (Not my brightest moment, admittedly.) Those happened to be a dark indigo in a heavier fabric, a combination I found I didn't care for anyhow...Despite the inconsistency, these jeans overall have the best fit for me so I'll probably try at least another pair to see if I can find some like the best set.

I could fit fine in a pair of 32x30 559's but they were ...
Using my wife's account to post review, but I felt I had to give my 2 cents. Im 5'4" 165, and normally wear a 32-34 depending on the brand and a 29" inseam (30 is the shortest most brands go though). I could fit fine in a pair of 32x30 559's but they were always a bit baggy, comfy but just to sloppy. I have a pair of 501's ( 34x29) that I could wear as long as i skipped leg day...and didn't move too much. They looked good but i have big thighs, I was able to squeeze into other jeans for a bit after a 2yr gym hiatus, but after just a month of getting back into it, my thighs are turning my 501's into skinny jeans. Enter the 514's. 33x30's are darn near perfect. If you want well fitting ,not skinny or super tight, but form fitting; these are the ticket. On the tape I am 34 inches and do best with a 29 inch inseam. After the wash they shrunk to "just right", I might hem them a half inch, if at all. The only reason they didn't get 5 stars is because they aren't as thick as some jeans I have owned so I am sure they will wear just as quick as my other Levi's ( 5 year lifespan with a stitch fix in the last year or so). Im happy and will probably stick with the 514's from here on out.
