Magic and Mayhem - a wicked treat!
I bought this DVD (distributed by Warner Home Video (UK) Ltd) secondhand because I don't always trust BluRays of old movies to be better than a plain old DVD. It came in a different kind of (VPRC) packaging (see image) from the usual plastic type. The quality of the picture on this DVD is fine and the sound is too, with subtitle options in English, Arabic, Polish, Greek, Czech, Turkish, Hungarian, Icelandic, Croation, and English for the hearing impaired. I've seen this movie a number of times and it never fails to entertain with its beautiful settings, cinematography, and a devil of a script which isn't for youngsters. There is a strong focus on sex in the dialogue which manages to be risque without, somehow, being offensive.Jack Nicholson is such a fine actor that most of the time I forget he is just playing a role. As the character Daryl Van Horne in this devilish fantasy, he did it again. The beautiful and talented actresses Michelle Pfeiffer, Susan Sarandon and Cher (Sukie, Jane, and Alexandra) are manless and all wish for a bit of excitement to liven up their humdrum existences. They jointly wish for a tall dark man, a stranger, to come into their lives and they get Daryl. He's strange all right! He has an outlandish way with words and attire and sets about seducing the ladies. When the ladies of the small town start to talk about Daryl and his lifestyle, Sukie, Jane and Alexandra begin to realise they should be careful what they wish for.One actress who is a real scene stealer in this is Veronica Cartwright whose character is shocked and outraged by events in Eastwick. I don't think Cartwright gets enough recognition for her acting skills and seems always to play a supporting role. Remember her in Alien (1979) when confronted by the alien itself? Well, her character doesn't seem much happier in Witches of Eastwick either.Great fun. I envy those watching it for the very first time.

Jack's BACK
is a 1987 American dark fantasy-comedy film directed by George Miller and starring Jack Nicholson as Daryl Van Horne, alongside Cher, Michelle Pfeiffer and Susan Sarandon as the titular witches. The film is based on John Updike's 1984 novel of the same name. While the film follows the basic structure of the novel, several major developments are dropped, with the book being darker in tone. The setting of both is Rhode Island, but the novel sets the time during the late 1960s. In the novel, Daryl is more devil-like: less of an enabler and more of a selfish, perverse predator and architect of mayhem. Also, the film omits a key episode in the book, where Daryl unexpectedly marries a young, innocent girl named Jenny, and the jealous three witches magically cause her to die of cancer. None of the three witches gets pregnant and in the end, Daryl flees town with Jenny's younger brother, Chris, apparently his lover. Also in the book, Alexandra's last name was Spofford, not Medford and Jane was Jane Smart, not Jane Spofford, and Sukie was Rougemont, not Ridgemont. There are differences in their hair and build too; Alexandra is plump and Sukie is the redhead.Classic Nicolson and all-round enjoyable dark comic thriller.

A Touch Of HD Magic... Nice Upgrade!!!
Love this movie and own it on dvd but the picture quality was awful so i wanted the upgrade to blu-ray and I’m very happy with it, for the first 5 mins it does look just like the dvd quality but then the HD transfer kicks in and the movie looks quite beautiful, definitely worth the purchase, the audio sound is great too definitely worth the upgrade for the price it is and fans of the movie.

Fabulous Entertainment
Great comedy thriller with Jack and three witches, their after the perfect guy and who should turn up but Jack in an English town. Wealthy and irresistible who is pulling the strings here. Okay there was only two choices for casting and that was the real devil or Jack, that's how he was picked (joking). Fantastic show plenty of fun and mischief so now I have told you nothing I'll leave it at that. I really loved the ideas and story that I couldn't give it less than an A grade plus for a classic, to me watch and enjoy. Munchies coming up and the curtain is going up relaxing in my favourite chair marvellous entertainment on the menu. Enjoy!
