Set in Leeds, northern England, between the 1950s and 80s, Betty (Billie Piper - Doctor Who) is a young wife and mother whose life is changed forever after she falls hopelessly and dangerously in love with her charismatic Polish neighbor, Alex Crazenovski, also known as Craze. Against her principles, she abandons herself to a world of untapped thrills and passion, feelings that have been so desperately missing from her own conventional, claustrophobic marriage. Thirty years later, an older Betty (Sue Johnston - Waking the Dead) comes to realize that the consequences of her past compulsive passion have created ripples that spill far into the future, finally reaching a crisis point on her beloved son's wedding day.

Great Drama I Can't Stop Watching It
I really loved this mini series. It is split into two parts, both of which are about 90 minutes long. The first half is more focused on the 1950's era when Betty (the main character) has her affair with Craze, her Polish neighbor. And the second half is about Betty thirty years later on her son's wedding day.My favorite part was the first part when you really get to see the affair and how much in love with Craze, Betty becomes. I could really feel just how much she longed/wanted to be with him and while I don't agree with affairs I was finding myself hoping that the two could find a way to be together. The second part was good as well, though it is very different from the first. It's thirty years later and we see what her life is like with her husband and son. Set mostly during her son's wedding day, Betty keeps seeing hallucinations of Craze throughout the day. Let's just say the ending had me in tears, happy tears. The two parts could really be seen as different movies all together as they don't really center in on the same thing. Part one was certainly my favorite but two has its moments as well. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who love's period dramas.

I Can't Stop Watching It Either!! Very Enjoyable...
I can only agree with the glowing reviews here. I've recently become an ardent fan of Divergent hottie Theo James and got this movie because of him and, of course, I'm a sucker for romance. This wonderful two-part series definitely met my expectations--especially the steamy and passionate scenes between Billie Piper and Theo. Another fan favorite Alun Armstrong had me cracking up throughout the second part. Sue Johnston was so good. It was a well-cast and a poignant love story indeed! I highly recommend!Btw...Theo is a solid actor and I hope he gets more romantic roles in the future, because he's so great as a leading man ;)

Love this movie!
Wow! I fell in love with this movie and Theo James, all in the same breathe! He is overly sexy and handsome! The only reason, I purchased this, is after watching Divergent. I heard he was in this movie, so I purchased it. Great acting! Awesome love scenes! He and Billie Piper were great together! I love her in Dr. Who!All in all, I love the movie, it aired in England!

Excellent
This is well developed and a story of the complex emotions of a woman whose affair ended badly and she never quite recovered. Her journey is sad and upsetting as she muddles her way through life. The acting was excellent. It's done in two distinct parts, each equal in importance.

Loved It
DVD 1 covers the meeting between Theo James & Billie Piper's characters and their passionate affairDVD 2 picks up several years later with Sue Johnson taking over the Billie Piper role and the implication of the affair haunts her as she prepares for her only son's wedding.A very moving story which I would thoroughly recommend. A naked Theo James is obviously not to be missed but the story is believable and could have happened to any housewife during this time who feels unwanted by her husband. Romance, Tragedy, Mystery this story has it all. You'll laugh and cry during this DVD and although Theo James does not appear often in this second DVD he does make cameo appearances during flashback memory moments. A touching story. Would Recommend

Very good
I really enjoyed this story perhaps because I am older and can relate to reflecting on the past. That is what this story is about. In the 1950's England a young woman with a baby is married but meets an Italian incredibly good looking man. They have an torrid affair. She remembers this affair the rest of her life and uses what was purely sex and flashy honeymoon type romance, as a yardstick to measure her husband who seems incredibly dull and boring. I don't want to give a "spoiler" but eventually near the end of her life, she manages to view her past the way it really was. I would recommend this dvd, it is good entertainment. Good acting and good story.
