Works better than Intermatic products
But saying that, I have had some problems with these outdoor modules. I have 3 of them and two have exhibited problems: One was DOA out of the package - nothing worked, including manually. One quit after about a year - can't turn it off wirelessly but everything else works.I am using six GE plug-in appliance and lamp modules and they are all working fine. So far.About Intermatic or Wayne-Dalton units: I have experienced nearly a 50% failure rate on all of the Intermatic and Wayne-Dalton modules after 2 years. The failures have been total RF transceiver failure (no communication at all), will not turn off wirelessly or will not turn on wirelessly. The ones that manage to get past the initial 1-2 years of use usually keep working, however. I even installed a whole-house surge suppressor - no improvement. Naturally, they quit after all warranties are long gone. That's why I have been changing over to GE as the others die hoping for better reliability but now I am begining to wonder if all versions of these modules might have issues.I have a couple of the light switch dimmer modules (the ones that replace 2 or 3 way wall switches - they are brands other than Intermatic or Wayne-Dalton) and have had no issues. What's interesting is that the Intermatic controllers appear to work fine. I have one that's nearly 8 years old that still works great. However, the GE controller is easier to program and use.Addendum 11/23/2012: the second GE 45604 unit is now not usable. I can't turn it on wirelessly, only off.Note the addendum below.Addendum 3/31/2013: Fortunately I did not toss any of the "defective" units. Instead I used the GE 45601 remote control and all but one of the "bad" units worked. It would seem that 90% of my problems were the controller and not the modules so I strongly recommend NOT using the Intermatic controller but use the GE.IMPORTANT: you have to "DELETE" all of the modules from the network of the old controller (remove the pairing) before attempting to pair it with a new controller. If you don't, you will find that the module will not respond. I have never seen anyone mention this critical requirement.Note: the GE instructions are not 100% perfect. When setting the on/off times for groups, make sure that when you select the correct group that you want to program since it defaults to group 1. They do not mention anything about this.

Head to Head comparison
I bought the Intermatic HA04C and the GE45604 Z-Wave outdoor modules because they were the same price and I needed two to reach the pump I wanted to control. My intention was to use one halfway to relay the signal to the other one controlling the pump. The GE unit has a well built rubber cap that completely protects the outlet when nothing is plugged in. If your intention is to leave this unit outside all year when nothing is plugged in then this GE is the hands down best choice. The Intermatic has an exposed outlet with no cover. The nice feature on the Intermatic though is a light to indicate power to the outlet. The GE module has no such indication. Both modules have a button on the face to manually turn the outlet on and off. The button on the GE is slightly recessed and and a little harder to press.I tested the range on both units using an extension cord measuring the distance that the Z-Wave signal worked reliably with no retries. The Intermatic's range was 64' and the GE's range was 74' or 90' depending on orientation. The GE module range is 16' further if the power cord on the unit is facing the Z-Wave signal source which in my case is a Vera Lite. I also have the AEON LABS indoor Smart Energy Switch which I brought outside and established its range was 95'.All three of these switches were very easy to pair with the Vera and work well in my home automation application. I subtract one star from the GE 45604 otherwise flawless performance due to it not having a light to indicate power to the outlet, a power button that is slightly difficult to work manually and concerns of rain shorting the circuit while an appliance is plugged into it. I have to believe there is a boot that could water proof the outlet when the appliance is in use.Otherwise the GE works well, has superior range and seals up nicely when nothing is plugged in making it ideal for an outside signal relay. At this point I am inclined to stick with GE outdoor modules on my future purchases.

Would have given 5 stars, but for two reasons
I love the concept of this module. It only takes up one plug and will plug into my outlet cover without blocking the other plug. The main part of this module will hang outside of the outlet cover. I've had no issues (that I am aware of) where water has gotten into the unit. The spot where you plug in your accessory does need to be a little deeper to add more protection to it. There is a cap on it that I assume is supposed to close over the plug to keep it water tight. That will not work with most plugs because they stick out too much. If the plug had a 90 degree on it, that might not be the case. There are very few products out there with 90 degree plugs. I ended taping mine up with electrical tape to keep it water tight.I strung up a 50 foot section along part of my patio with LED lights and have them connected to this. I have a sensor on my sliding screen door so that when I open it, the LED lights will turn on. That way, I can close or open the sliding glass door and not worry about the lights staying on or going off. Now, the two main complaints I have against this module are 1) It drops its connection to my Smartthings hub... a lot and 2) the lights I have plugged into still have a little bit of power going to them. I have to reset this module at least once a week by unplugging it, waiting a few minutes, and then plugging it back in. Very annoying. I'd also like to see them fix the problem with power still going through the switch. My LED lights still have a little bit of power to them even when the switch is supposed to be off. You can see all of them lit, but there is not enough power going to them to create any amount of light.I've been tempted to replace this with a regular switch and place it under my outlet cover, but haven't gotten around to it because most outlets cover up the other plug. I may get one now, now that they sell some that do not do this.

Works well even to -30
Seems to work well. Paired fairly easily to my Wink. Used the Wink app to set up a schedule and it works. One of the other reviewers mentioned that it does not work below -20. Mine seems to work and we experienced some -30s during the time after I installed it. I agree that it is not really weatherproof. I can't speak to the watertightness as I did not want to test, that but where the plug goes into the unit is not well protected. I would recommend installing with the plug end down and and installing it in a protected .location. Anyway, there is not a lot out there that is for outdoors and connects to home automation so I bought another. idevices makes a similar unit but there is nowhere I can find the operating temperature for it.

Does what it says
**UPDATE**I've had this for about 4 years now, it's located outside year round and still works great.***************I had no problem adding this to my ADT Pulse system, just like I'm sure it would add to any Z Wave system. The product is a little bulky, but it is rated for the outdoors hence the extra protection I'm assuming. I've been using it daily for about 3 months and so far there is no issue, we will see how it will fair over the winter months. The quality of the plug and outlet is very good, not flimsy at all.

Great add on to my security system.
I'm using this for my outdoor Christmas lighting and it really works very well. It paired with the system easily when I originally set it up and was automatically recognized several weeks later when I installed it outside. It doesn't appear to be affected by the cold, continuing to work in temps approaching -20C. It's only slightly more expensive than the "regular" rimers and much more convenient.

Great for xmas lighting
This is a great way to control xmas lights. I've had a couple of these for 2 winters now. These reliably turn the lights on and off to schedule from the home automation controller. Was very easy to setup.

Five Stars
I used this outside so I did not have to purchase a GFI Z-Wave switch. Works perfectly
