Creates almost no interference, amplifier cuts off signal when unplugged
My car stereo has RCA cables in the back so I was able to plug my iPod into the AUX port using a standard RCA to 2.5mm pin cable. The problem was that that cable does not charge my iPod, of course. So I tried almost every single car charger out there and every single one created noise on the audio channel. Then I called Belkin and asked about this product. They told me that they put in an amplifier to handle that problem, so I bought the device. They are right, this is the first charger that allows me to charge my iPod and pass the audio signal to my car stereo with almost no noise. Maybe an audiophile could hear the noise, but it sounds like CD quality to me.The only problem is that if I unplug the charger, it shuts down the amplifier and the audio signal. This is the only reason that I am giving it 4 stars. It would have been 5 stars if the charger had an amplifier to cut down noise (as it does), and a pass through channel for when the charger is unplugged.

Alternator whine.
Nice little unit, I really like the way I can have only one cord going to my iPod as the audio is tapped off at the unit plugged into the power socket. I have been thinging about semi permanently mounting and wiring it up, so that all that is visible is the cord to the iPod.The reason I only gave two stars on the sound quality is that it has introduced alternator whine, I assume because there is a little amp built into it for the level control. I dont have this when the audio is plugged into to iPod directly, even with a power cord plugged inot the unit.In my thoughts about semi permanently mounting it, I am thinking about adding a fairly large capacitor to the power to see if that gets rid of the alternator whine. It's pretty pronounced when the iPod isnt playing and the volume is up a bit. The music will drown it out completely, but you know it's still there, and it shouldnt be. Thinking about also trying the Monster unit like this, to see if their amp is designed better and cuts the alternator whine.

Sounds Fantastic...
This product is the best way to go - sounds clean in my car. I tried that FM crap and forget that...1. Plugs in clean on the bottom - no audiojack needed at the top plus the cig adapeter on the bottom.2. They cleverly put the 1/8" out back down where the cig adapter plugs into the car. Ingenious for my setup which is in the console - all wires nearly hidden.3. Saves you $ 200 ish dollars for the BMW like IPod line in car kits...4. I work in the audio industry - so I have no idea what the other people are complaining about - it's a quality piece. All you need is an aux in - or jack into the line out wires of your CD Changer - this gives you 40 Hours of Ipod Car Music Bliss....

Works great, but needs strain relief on connectors
I bought this as a gift for my girlfriend. She uses it with the Aux input jack in her Mazda3, and it works wonderfully. We particularly like the audio output at the base of the unit--that means that only one cable has to come out of the center console to connect to her iPod. We use a 12" cable between the Belkin charger and the Aux input, which keeps the cables to a minimum. However, after about three months of use, the connection between the cable and the plug that connects to the iPod started to come loose. There was apparently no strain relief on that section, and the individual wires became visible as the outer jacket worked its way out. About two weeks later, it stopped transmitting music.Thankfully, Belkin has a lifetime warranty (with an express replacement option)--so I just submitted the warranty information. The only reason this product did not receive 5 stars was because of the strain relief issue. Otherwise--it's terrific!

Read The Product Info
I bought one of these for my First IPOD years ago.. it worked fine until one day when I blew the Fuze and in replacing it, watched the spring fly across my parking place, never to be found again. I then just used my Ipod alone. I recently replaced my IPOD (Nano) with a current model, and discovered I couldn't charge and play my IPOD at the same time due to plug placement. I remembered this unit, and ordered it, without reading reviews or even product info. I was surprised to find this unit won't power newer Nano's (and other units it seems, thanks Apple for changing your "standard"). The adapter still works, but does NOT charge your IPOD.

Great product for my scenario
My Honda Accord has a cigarette power adaptor in the armrest.I added an auxiliary audio plug to the stereo, and the end of the plug terminates inside my armrest. The audio plug connects to this Belkin device, which plugs into the power adaptor, and it allows me to run one cable to my ipod, which sits in the cupholders. For me, this item is essential.I will say, however, that this is the 2nd one of these I've purchased because the plug on my first one broke down with use. It probably lasted 1.5 or 2 years. I would have hoped for a little better lifespan than that. Hoping the 2nd one provides it.

great product, esp. for $7
Works fantastically for me.. I use the line out to send to the front AUX input of my JVC in-dash unit right next to the cigarette lighter (so only one cable coming out of the bottom (dock) of the ipod.it would be really annoying to connect the headphone chord from the top AND the dock in the bottom everytime you setup.. and then also have the cumbersomeness of that interface everytime you grab your ipod. fortunately you needn't do that with the Belkin kit (and some other solutions).others reported some ground hum.. i have noticed no such thing on my system.by the way i pull it out slightly when i'm parking along time.. just so it doesnt drain the car battery even slightly.

Simple, Cheap, Good
Anyone who uses a car cassette adapter or line-in to play music in their car will appreciate this. It's cheap, charges the iPod (not officially the iPhone, but it DOES work), and gives a clean, powerful line-out signal. Harder to find because of the popularity of radio transmitters (not as good, interference problems). Recommend to those with a simple car and setup.
