I have several of these. They last for years and are useful for either hot or cold. They work very well. They are flexible and retain their set temperature well. Of note; however, in USA .... TSA will not allow inside of carry on luggage, they will confiscate it. Also, if you put it in checked baggage, that bag will likely get an extra check from TSA.

I've used Thermipaq ice/hot packs for over 5 years now. I just reordered the 9.5x16 because the other had a few pinholes in it from constant wear. We still use it, but only as an ice pack. They hold heat and cold anywhere from an hour to 5 hours, depends on the temperature around them. If you use the heat pack under a blanket, for example, it'll stay warmer longer. We use them for ourselves as needed but the most use for this sized pack is for my 19 year old cat who has arthritis throughout her body. She'll curl up on the pack for hours. We either leave it in the cover or take it out and place it under a fleece blanket for her. She meows less and moves better after sleeping on it -no stiff walking. I use the smaller version for when I get sick -multiple times a week- to cool off my body because my temperature spikes. With this use it stays cold for maybe 40 minutes. With regular sprains and other injuries the 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off this works great. It'll get cold again during the 20 minutes off. It's a little stiff when it's frozen but it can still wrap around the injured area. The elastic bands on the cover provide a snugger fit. Also great for - keeping ice cream containers cold when you want to sit in front of the tv with a carton of ice cream and a spoon after having a bad day ;) Pic: my 19 year old cat enjoying the warmth that the 9.5x16 inch pack is giving her.

OMG- the best hot/cold pack you can get. The clay holds cold or heat so much longer than the gel packs. I keep mine in the freezer and just microwave it for heat when needed. I have had one for over 10 years. This is a replacement because I let my daughter "borrow it". The gel ones only last about a year before cracking. Perfect size for large or small hurts because it molds to you, and makes an awesome hot water bottle in the bed. Well worth the price!

I bought one of these at a brick-and-mortar store about 10 years ago and I used it until the seal broke on it. The clay did not leak, but it became semi-rigid and less-effective once it was exposed to air. I was happy to find one on Amazon, because my local store wasn't carrying them anymore. It is important to know that this stuff is clay, so it is heavy. For the people whose brain and body are relaxed by deep pressure (weighted-blanket fans, represent!), this is a bonus. For folks who are more pressure-sensitive, or who have fragile joints, you would be better off with the thermal packs with a lightweight gel or the gel beads. That said, for those to whom a nice, heavy-but-flexible warm or cold pack appeals, this thing is awesome. It warms in the microwave in a matter of minutes, and the instructions are printed right on the clay pack (and did not fade or flake off in the time I owned the first one), so no rooting around in a closet to find them when you need them. I store it in the freezer: the directions include how to use the microwave to defrost it, then heat it, so you can convert it from frozen, to a heating pad, in 5-7 or so minutes. I have a smallish microwave, so I have to contort the pad a little to fit it in. Note: the dimensions given are for the fabric cover, not the pack itself, which is a little smaller, in order to fit easily into the cover. I believe another reviewer posted the exact dimensions of the pack. For size comparison, I have a broad-ish frame and some chub on me. The pack spans my low back pretty well, and just about wraps around my knee. It easily covers both sides of my ankle at once.

The velcro straps help keep it in place and it stays pliable even when fully frozen. The only drawback is it thaws out pretty quick with body heat. But it also gets cold quick so you can get it cold enough to do repeated cycles if you’re trying to do cold/hot cycles.
