Works
I bought this to raise and lower a cargo box stored on the ceiling. I thought using the winch would make the raising better. Given the pulley setup I have, a single crank only raises the box about an inch. Only have a 10 ft ceiling but it takes forever. The ratchet works great. The latches work great and are easy to engage and disengage for lowering the box. I’m going to try and modify it to see if I can use a drill to lift it but the gearing might suck for that. We’ll see. Only use it occasionally so not too bad. Way cheaper than an actual drill driven one and my setup doesn’t allow me to have 360 degree winder one. Materials of construction are beefy and it is well made. So I’m happy.

This winch has no reverse gear
Hidden in the description is the warning that this winch is not for lifting. Well! What that relly means is that reverse is actually a free-fall. Sound like what you desire? Well, buy it then.

a good, reliable winch
A very capable winch, the only drawback for me was the somewhat limited arc. Under heavy load, however, you'll probably only be pulling a very short stroke, so it's not a problem. Under a truly heavy load, approaching the 400 lb rating, I could easily see myself using a cheater pipe or handle extension.

Inexpensive solution.
Have a small boat trailer that I sometimes have to almost jackknife to get into position in our back yard because there is not a lot of room to maneuver and winches with traditional handles hit my tailgate when that happens. The boat is also very light weight so this winch handles it easily and eliminates the annoying handle hitting the tailgate issue.
