Looks dubious, works wonders!
I was extremely dubious, when I purchased this. I assume one of a few things would happen.1) It would break immediately.2) It wouldnt achieve anything.3) it wouldn't pull/destroy the roots, if it did achieve something.I was completely wrong. I used up my drills entire battery, and was only able to weed half of my (very small) yard. Which is fine. My yard was completely overrun with Dandelions, and the roots were HUGE.I was able to eradicate the plant entirely, as far as I could tell. I sometimes went at it several times, because the plant/roots were so large they would wrap around the unit and halt progress. You do have to clear off the end, before attempting a new weed, or it wont hook on to the next weed.I have learned I need a second battery for my drill ;) but my faith in this product is now pretty rock solid. Now to get a rake to clean up the mess (Can you tell this is my first attempt at yard work?. Im so unamerican)Oh, the previous homeowner planted bamboo in the yard, which I've since mowed down, but the bamboo makes it impossible to weed in that area. Just FYI. Next to find something to remove bamboo roots....Anyway, highly recommended!

Great tool
A patient recommended this tool. I'm glad he did. Works great with black medic. Took me a while to figure out how to remove the weed from the weed and till tool once it gets wrapped around it. If you go at the weeds at an angle of the root and it makes it a lot easier to remove it from the tool. Do not go at the root straight up or you will not be able to remove the weed very well. It will leave holes in your yard where the weed id removed. This information is not on the packaging.

Great item - I needed to remove some sod to plant landscaping around our water purification system canisters on the side of my house. I used this to loosen the sod initially. it made removing the sod MUCH easier. I first used this with my cordless drill. It ran the battery down pretty quick. I then put this on my Dewalt corded hammer drill. BOOO-YAAAA using that drill turned this thing into a true beast. After I removed the sod, I used this to loosen all the soil. Our soil is extremely hard, and this thing spun through it like a hot knife through butter.

This works really well in soft dirt. If you get in to dirt will small rock be careful as it will throw the rocks at your legs. You can make holes to plant flowers or to take out weeds. I suggest buying and electric drill and using a long extension cord otherwise you will be recharging the batteries more than you are using the tool.

This really works!!!!
WOW!We have a "wall" of cactus we planted that was being ruined with "Ginny" grass that was growing next to the base of the cactus. These cactus have tiny thorns that seem to get you no matter what you are wearing.Remembered this concept and went to Amazon to order it, not expecting to get exactly what we needed but SOMETHING to address the grass.I WAS WRONG!This goes above and beyond what is listed. It has a great reach that got every one of those pesky grass clumps and made the wall into a thing of beauty.TIP: The ability to rip out weeds is in direct proportion to you drill motor. A good cordless 18 Volt will do the trick but PLEASE remember Newtons Law: Equal and opposite reaction... It CAN hurt your wrist if you are not a body builder. What I did when we use it is to set the drill clutch to a low number (this is used to regulate the screw depth and is next to the bit that you rotate to separate numbers). Start out at the middle and play with the setting so you don't hurt your wrist. The corded high torque drills have a brace handle that works great and you don't have to change batteries out!Nice product to have!

I’m in love!
This thing is so fun and satisfying! Every time I rip out a weed I feel a sense of victory! You definitely need to attack the weed at an angle in order to get the full satisfaction. It fell out of the drill a couple times after using it for awhile but I didn’t care, I put it back in and kept on conquering the million little green beasts all over my new yard! Well worth the small amount of money I paid for it!

Not great on thistle even after heavy rain, and it slips inside the drill
I tried it out today in a few places after we had a terrific rain/hail storm last night - enough rain to move the earth even in Colorado. So I was trying it out on soft ground with lots of mulch where the Canada Thistle thrives. I had hoped it would allow me to get to the lateral root which keeps sending up new vertical roots. Instead I found hand weeding the stuff to be more effective - i.e., I get more of the root by getting on my hands and knees with leather gloves on and just pulling it up. And I'm a lot faster and productive just using my hands. The tool seemed fine in soft ground, but when it hit a tough root or a hard packed bit of dirt it started to slip at the drill end. Far from causing me any wrist problems like some reviewers complained about, this just started to spin. It's a good drill, Dewalt, low and high torque settings, not used a whole lot, fresh 20-v battery, and never had a problem with the drill before. I feel the item was not machined properly at the bit end. If not for the slippage I would have tried it in my high torque corded drill, but did not see much point if the drill can't grip it properly. Disappointed. I was hopeful initially. Back to kneeling on pieces of cardboard.

soft soil only
Like several other reviewers I found that it only worked in relatively soft soil. In harder soil it tends to put too much torque on the drill and the bit slips. The problem is also that the flat sides of the bit that go into the drill chuck are a bit rounded at the edges, making it easy for the bit to spin in the drill chuck if torque gets too much. The other problem is that after a bit of twirling in the weeds, the bit end is a tight tangle of weeds and must be pulled free (not so easy). Hence, the tool as a place, but it is limited (soft soil, small weeds).
