Great little tester, found my mistake in less than a minute.
I had to run a cat 6 ethernet cable from the basement to the third floor in my house. I installed the ethernet jacks in the walls and used an old ethernet cable that i had cut in half and put shorts on each pair to use for testing at both ends. The cable with the shorted pairs i plugged into one jack. The second test cable that i had just skinned the insulation off each wire i plugged into the other jack. I used a multimeter to test for each shorted pair and everything tested okay. I plugged an ethernet cable into my router and the other end into the jack on the third floor. at the other end , i plugged my arlo security system base into that ethernet jack. The base unit wouldn't connect to the internet. .I had tested the base unit by plugging it right into the router so i knew that it worked. It had to be in the wiring that i had installed. I started looking for ethernet cable testers on Amazon and found this one which i ordered. When i plugged in the tester at one end and went to the the other jack to test the l.e.ds, i discovered that i had a short between wires 2 and 3. Went up to the third floor and pulled the jack out of the wall only to discover that i had punched down 2 wires in the same slot. Corrected my mistake and the arlo base was connected to the internet. What a lifesaver. It worked as described.

Handy to ha
Got it for LAN & USB cable testing. So far, it works great Wish it would take USB-C & Apple cables w/o an adapter.

Cat6 Cable Working? This Simple Gadget Will Tell You.
This inexpensive tool saved me a lot of time and headaches. I ran a 300 foot cat6 cable from a router to a Wifi Access Point. It worked and I had internet for several months but then the internet was no more. I blamed it on the WAP and then I bought this tester. Ha, it was my shoddy work when I installed the R45 connectors. The tester was easy and quick to use and I re-installed the connectors correctly this time. The internet is working just fine. I don’t understand how the internet was working at all with some of the wires switched…..Oh well. Bigger fish to fry elsewhere! Nice little tool.
