SmartScore X2 Guitar Edition - scan your sheet music

Excellent software. Use with the Aria Player. Only minor feedback is that the output volume of the software needs to be increased.

I downloaded the free the demo first and try it. I tried every which way. Uploaded clear PDF files(not scans) . Simply music. Tried drums and bass. Nope! Contacted customer service. They finally just ignored me as it seems their only answer would be "sorry we sell software that doesn't work" Run and Save your money. This is second software of this type I have tired to no avail. A few more companies make similar. Onto the next one to try.

It wasn't what I expected.

Full featured, but extremely complicated and difficult to use.

This was a little difficult to rate. It does what it says it will do, scan your music and "attempts" to make sense of it. However, I can get perfect scans from my hardware, and one of two identical measures will display an error. It seems to have the most trouble with multiple voices. If all one wants are tabs without any regard for musical accuracy, then this may work for you. I'd consider the software not out-of-the-box ready without a reasonable learning curve. However, for composing with accuracy I'd recommend Guitar Pro and let this alone. For complex classical pieces, I can tab out an arrangement in GP faster than I can error correct a scan with this software. For simpler arrangements, this is often times a faster solution. You'll do well with this product if you can read music to some degree.

Awesome product. Great service

I have been trying - fortunately - demo software, both for the SmartScore X2 Pro version, and the SmartScoreX2 Guitar Edition. In principle, all I want to do is take a perfect normal notation classical guitar score in PDF form, bring it into the software, "recognize it" (the program makes a TIF), and do nothing more than add tablature notation to it. The big version (Pro) crashes - just disappears from the computer screen - about 8 seconds after trying to do this. Thinking the Guitar Edition might be different, I tried it. It chugged away from 3-4 minutes before it was obvious that the program was not responding. Tried again, and in 8 seconds, just like the full Pro version, the program just crashed - disappeared from the screen, no error messages, nothing. I've wasted about 3 hours on this stuff. I wrote their tech support an email yesterday asking for some, any, advice, and no answer. This is as basic as it gets, it seems to me. It doesn't work at even the simplest level.

I tried with quite simple scores of the Shearer method volume 1. The time needed to clean mistakes on a scanned score is probably close to the time needed to type directly the score. The issue is when there are two voices. The tablature is often wrong and is quite painful to correct. The edition process is not intuitive at all.I am disappointed. The very bad news is that the Guitar Edition does not allow to display a guitar TAB staff below a melody line. You can display or the notes or the tablature but not both !! This makes me angry because this is a basic feature expected for a GUITAR edition.I do not recommend this expensive product.
