"It is Japanese steel" does not mean a thing. I have ordered from Japan and from US knife maker suppliers who have both Japanese and US steel. There's no comparison in either the quality of the steel or the fit and finish of their knife blanks. The first picture above shows the knife that I just received. The second picture is taken from the website. The second picture lead one to believe that the pommel can be removed from the tang. Being able to remove and reinstall the pommel would definitely allow for better fit of the knife scales. I've been making knives for 12 years. I have ground my own knives from raw blanks. People are now more price oriented thanks to the flooding of our market with Chinese stuff. So I ordered this because of that picture. I will finish the knife. I made a template to facilitate a close fit of the Ironwood scales that I bought. It will come out looking fine to the average consumer. Just know what you're getting into.

First time ever trying to add a skin to a knife. Made this for my father in law for father’s Day & he absolutely loved it. I don’t know anything about knives, but he couldn’t stop bragging about how well balanced it was, how sharp it was and what a great knife. He said it was a pleasure to use. Nice knife. Blade straight and sharp, the pattern of the Damascus stainless is beautiful. Bolster finish was a little rough. Will purchase again.

I bought this as a gift for my niece, I put a very nice handle on it without too much trouble, if you have never done it you may find it tricky. The blade quality was excellent, and it was literally surgically sharp out of the box. I handle knives all the time and rarely ever do I cut myself, it took me about 3 minutes before I started leaking. I mean that as a compliment, it is a pleasure to use. Also, the box it came with was very nice and added to the Elegance of the whole ensemble. Very happy with this blade.

I am a moderately experienced self-taught weekend woodworker and have done a variety of other projects. This was my first knife kit and the knife did come out nice. However it’s trickier than others that don’t have the end cap because you have to shape the handle scales to fit between the end cap and the bolster. There is no template provided so this was a trial and error process for me. In the end it did look really pretty (I used zebrawood scales) and the knife blade itself was beautiful. The flocked box was a nice touch since this was a gift.

This knife is a joy to handle with excellent balance and feel. The finish is well done and the edges of the spine and heel have been nicely rounded. The blade is very sharp out of the box and took a razor edge with very little stropping. Fitting the handle scales was relatively easy even with the different wood and G10 glass laminations. A great project knife for a gift or keeper!
