Amazon Basics Refillable Fountain Pen with Smooth Writing, Fine Point Nib, Black Ink

The Amazon Basics Fountain Pen is the workhorse pen for the people. All metal, heavy for its size yet sleek... like a well fitted tux. It's the pen you take to the bank to finalize that loan, the student filling out applications for work. This pen is not luxury but feels luxurious and proud to be such. The "New Dad" Pen... the First day in a new office job... the Gift a good wife gives with a pocket notebook not because its his birthday but just because.. The nib is buttery smooth, the cap post cleanly, Capping the pen at the end *SNAP!* Crisp. International short cartridges are cheap and plenty of different color options. I would give this pen to litterally anyone new or experienced... it just WORKS!

I admit, I bought this mostly out of curiosity. I found myself wondering, "How good could an Amazon Basics fountain pen actually be?" The answer turned out to be: surprisingly good. Now, don't get me wrong, this isn't the same quality as a $200 pen with a gold nib. But I would argue it writes just as well as some of the popular entry-level pens like a Platinum Preppy or a Pilot Kakuno. The nib is smooth and silky right out of the box, and I haven't had any issues with "hard starts" where the ink doesn't want to flow. The only thing to note is the sizing. I ordered a medium nib, but it definitely writes a bit more like a broad. That doesn't bother me because it makes a lovely, thick line, but it is something to be aware of if you write small. For around $10, it feels substantial in the hand and looks professional enough to take into a meeting. If you are looking for a starter pen to see if you like fountain pens, this should definitely be on your shortlist. In short: An incredible value for the money. It writes smoothly and feels solid, though the medium nib runs a little thick.

For the price, this pen does amazingly well. I use it with a refillable piston mechanism and it has really grown on me. I have several preloaded with my favorite ink colors. Perfect paper combination with the WM Pen + Gear pocket notebook. Use this pen for everyday. I also use it for pen sketches. Bold, satisfying writing. Smooth; easy on the hand. I highly recommend buying several at this price.

This pen is ridiculous! Next day, $8, whatever. I'll buy it. WOW! This pen is SO MUCH better than deserved for the price. It's not the best pen out there, but it's good enough for everyday. It has; solid interface, fits all of the "good parts", costs almost nothing, balanced weight, doesn't scream "steal me", looks "professional", writes VERY smooth with the ink cartridge I transplanted, and it's Goldilocks size dimensions. I didn't use the Amazon ink, so that might be a factor, but it's far better than you have a right to expect from it. Nothing fancy, just the right stuff. Buy it. Buy it now. 2 months update: The nib is almost ruined, but not quite. I'm searching for a suitable replacement. It's been a really good nib that nothing else has been able to performance match so far, and I've been really using it. Hours a day, every day, and pretty much all day weekends. I've researched to find that it's very long lived under the circumstances I've used it. The ink still flows rather well, and line is consistent, but the contact surface is flat. I've literally worn it out in 2 months. Let me remind though, that was almost constant use. It held up wonderfully. I'd buy another, but the feed and body are almost mint. I've been thinking about it though. The pen is that good, and it's about $10. I really wish Amazon Basics would make one in solid raw brass with a screw cap. That would be my grail pen. More than a year later: The replacement nib is still going strong, and it's a cheap jinhao. I was chatting with an AI chatbot about it, and it said that constant 24h writing should take years to decades to wear out the nib, and it was obviously defective. I had no idea, i figured using it that much would definitely wear it out. If that's a concern of yours, then be advised. AI often doesn't know what is talking about though. The rest of the pen is still going strong, and it's my favorite pen. I've actually been searching for information on who makes it for Amazon, and even tried to commission a custom pen to resolve the things i wish were different, with no luck. There's apparently no other pen like it at all.

Received the pen 2 days ago. Immediately put it together and put in the supplied cartridge with Amazon printed on the side. Pen has a good heft and might be made out of metal. I started writing once the ink flow began, which was right away. I used excellent paper that other fountain pens have written on very well. At first the pen wrote very smoothly & I was extremely pleased; however, that changed when the pen began skipping rather dramatically. Sometimes it would not write for entire words like “please”. I found that pressing hard, very hard, the pen would start to write again, but after a while it would start skipping again. I held it against a paper towel and the ink came out with no problem. As I have used fountain pens before, I have a light touch when using them. I hold them toward the back when sketching and use them for art on a regular basis. When I tried that with this pen the result was terrible. I tried cleaning the pen, first with water alone then with dishwashing soap & water. No luck. Nothing changed. I do not understand why the pen fails to write. Even one use pens like the Varsity write immediately & do not skip. That pen is a medium nib & the Amazon Basic is a fine point, but that should not make a difference. I have several pens that are extra fine & they write well. And the pen seems to be well made. So, what went wrong? Can’t say from my experience. If I knew I would fix it.

There is a lot about this pen that I like; cheap ($9), uses cheap and easily acquired ink cartridges, has a good feel to it and looks nice but not fancy. However, there is a major downside to this pen, it is not that smooth of a writer and you will get ink blots if you don't pay attention while writing. It's not a terrible pen that will leave ink everywhere but you won't be signing any Constitutions with it. If you are new to the world of Fountain Pens and you don't know if you should get one, then get this one. While it is not perfect, you can't beat the price. It's a great way to get introduced to the world of Fountain Pens and when you are ready to upgrade or forget about the world of Fountain Pens, then you won't be out more than $9. I bought mine a few months ago and I am ready to upgrade to something much nicer and very glad that I got introduced to Fountain Pens with this pen. Also, don't buy this pen when the price is above $10 since there are better choices at the $20 price point.

I did a dumb thing, not thinking. I bought an inexpensive journal and then tried my new pen on it. It felt scratchy and the ink didn't flow properly. I thought I would have to return this pen until, duh, I tried it on several different qualities of paper. The problem was that this particular cheap paper had a wash of ivory color that was making the pen feel scratchy and the ink flow not optimal. I think that would be so for any colored paper. Because this pen is delightfully inexpensive and I was giving it a first try, I assumed the pen was the problem. Not so. It writes very smoothly on the choice of finer, white paper. Those of us who love fountain pens know the bliss of a smooth writing pen and such a pen deserves the investment in good paper. I'm just lucky I thought of it before returning a perfectly good pen. Leave the colored paper for ball point or pencil.

I have recently gotten a new hobby, hand lettering and calligraphy. Of course, a newbie like me should start with the basics, never copy someone's style and practice. It's a fun hobby, relaxing and fun, different from my regular business. Therefore, there I am confident that there would be a lot of fun in my journey as art of handwriting is out of fashion. My passion now is collecting nibs and pens, as well as decent, inexpensive fountain pens for a beginner like me. I am taking time to find the best pen for my now passion of writing. I have quite a few I bought for fairly reasonable price. This Amazon Basics refillable fountain pen is ideal. The price is great as I bought on discount, and it was delivered to my place the next day. Value for money, one cannot go wrong. I rarely read the instruction sheets or manuals when I receive an item. However, as I liked this pen, the way it was presented in an elegant black plastic case; and since the English section of this instruction sheet was concise, I read it carefully. In the care and cleaning section, for instance, it is said to avoid storing this pen on its side or with the tip down to prevent excess ink from staying in the nib and drying out. There are lots of other helpful tips to avoid being disappointed and ending up disappointed within days or weeks. My first impression of this pen when I first started writing is that it is comfortable, smooth and of good quality. For a fountain pen, I personally prefer the medium nib since my goal is to have artistic writing. It is easy to maintain and therefore durable. Compared to the pen I already have, I highly recommend this one.

Da sempre la penna stilografica è segno di eleganza e stile e questa stilografica marchio AmazonBasics, è realmente una bella penna con un design accattivante e curato ed è realizzata con materiali di buona qualità. È arrivata dentro una scatola in cartone, ben alloggiata all'interno di un cofanetto nero (18 x 6,5 x 4 cm circa), robusto e solido, insieme a 3 cartucce di cui 2 sono sistemate nel loro spazio all'interno del cofanetto e una si trova all'interno della penna stilografica ma è libera, non inserita sul relativo nipplo . La penna ha un design semplice ma elegante e piacevole, è di colore nero con finiture cromate, è leggera (pesa 32 grammi, cartuccia compresa), ha un cappuccio protettivo che ben si incastra sia sul pennino che sull'estremità opposta (così non c'è il rischio di perderlo), ed è dotato di un comodo fermaglio in metallo. Metto in evidenza, come suscritto, che il cappuccio non si avvita sulla penna ma bisogna premerlo fin a sentire il click di conferma dell'avvenuta chiusura a incastro. Faccio notare che la penna stilografica, sia con che senza cappuccio protettivo, è ben equilibrata, si impugna abbastanza bene e non stanca la mano. Ha un pennino in acciaio con punta fine e, quando il cappuccio protettivo è inserito su di esso, la lunghezza della penna stilografica è circa 13,8 cm ... le giuste dimensioni per poterla inserire in un taschino della giacca o in una elegante agenda oppure metterla in borsa. È caratterizzata dal tipico sistema di caricamento della cartuccia, ossia bisogna premere la cartuccia sul nipplo del gruppo pennino affinchè questo fori il diaframma in plastica della cartuccia per lasciare fluire l'inchiostro e poter scrivere ... attenzione, bisogna premere la cartuccia sul nipplo delicatamente ma con una certa forza PRIMA di avvitare il fusto perchè, a differenza di altre stilografiche, durante il riavvitamento del fusto la cartuccia non viene premuta e incastrata. L'inchiostro delle cartucce è nero intenso e la scrittura è continua, fluida, scorrevole, non sbava e non trapassa la carta ... anche se sinceramente devo mettere in evidenza che per coloro che non sono abituati a scrivere con una penna stilografica occorre un po' di pazienza e di pratica. Assegno 4 stelle perchè non sono riuscito a trovare la garanzia della penna stilografica (requisito importante per ogni articolo acquistato soprattutto on line) e non conosco a tutt'oggi (fine Ottobre 2019) il prezzo della penna stilografica ... spero che presto possa conoscere la garanzia e il prezzo per modificare le stelle assegnate.

Il a vraiment une belle écriture, et un débit d'encre équilibré ! Il est léger et agréable à utiliser, facile à recharger, et vraiment joli. Ça peut faire un beau cadeau !

Er liegt gut in der Hand und hat auch ein schönes Gewicht. Nicht zu leicht und nicht zu schwer. Ganz schlicht gehalten. Ich habe schon ewig nicht mehr mit einen Füller geschrieben und es schon was anderes wie als mit einen Kuli. Noch ist er nicht oben ausgelaufen, was ich bei der guten Qualität gerade bezweifle. Ich muss schauen ob da auch die ganz normalen Patronen rein passen. Da ich die zwei die dabei sind als etwas länger empfinde. Kann auch eine Täuschung meinerseits sein.
