How can you not love Humphrey?
My 7 year old tomboy daughter introduced me to Humphrey after her teacher read the first book in the series to the class. It is a great series that we both enjoy....funny, well meaning characters trying to work through teh real-world problems familiar to elementary school kids everywhere. I love that it isn't just a "girl" book or a "boy" book, but a character book full of great stories and lessons. Humphrey works through soem jealousy in this one...and it is a good lesson for all of us. We read these at night, but we have also bought teh CD versions and listen to the books on road trips.

Wonderful series for elementary students!
I've taught for 25 years and read aloud to my class every day of the school year....how did I miss this series until now?? Humphrey is a delightful hamster classroom pet who manages to regularly help out his "classmates"--the students in his class. My 3rd grade students love this series and some parents have told me this is the first time their child has requested to go buy books. The author does something innovative at the end of every chapter, i.e. a friendship quote from famous people, etc. which allows further opportunities for discussion. Highly recommended!

Great book for reading to the kids
My children and I have been reading the "Humphrey" series for 6 months now and all of the books are excellent night-time reading. In this book (SPOILERS) Humphrey meets Og the frog, a class pet from another classroom who comes to stay in room 26. Humphrey has to learn to share the limelight and how to be a good friend even when you can't understand anything that friend says. While there are great lessons in friendship and caring for others, it is also just a fun read. I highly recommend the whole series to anyone with kids age 5 and up!

Two of my children, ages 8 and 11, read the first Humphrey book in the series as part of a one school, one book reading initiative. Both loved it and it really does appeal to a wide range of ages and reading levels. My son, age 8 enjoyed it so much that we purchased this book, the second in the series. It has kept his interest and he while he finds it to be entertaining, he quickly sees the lesson of the story which provides a great talking point between parents and children about what it is to be a friend. We will purchase the third book of the series when we are finished with this one.
