This is an excellent resource for beginners
This is an excellent resource for beginners. It covers all important aspects of starting/learning to use EO with animals SAFELY. I especially like the thorough teachings about the importance of buying/using high quality ingredients. It has basic "recipes" for use with animals. Instructions are easy/thorough. I think too many pages were devoted to other professional's experiences.(But that is useful for ppl who are skeptical about EO.). It does not have an index and too many pages of sources to buy from (eventually those sources become outdated). That's the main reason I gave it 4 out of 5 *. Because of the "filler" pages of resources that could be found online searching anyway.

Awesome informative book
I found this book to be well written with pertinent information. It has a great review of essential oils as well as hydrosols SAFE for pets. Great for anyone looking to formulate more healthful remedies for their dog or cat. Great selection of recipies. What was a bit disappointing is a lot of the resources no longer exist. Doing a search brought up tons of locals so I would say this is a definite ADD to your Library.

Amoratherapists take note!
A wonderful book that contains pretty much all you need to know to work with essential oils and applications/uses on animals. (You could also use some of the recipes for humans too!) Well written and researched. Easy to read and put knowledge into application. I highly recommend this for student of Aromatherapy.

A very happy addition to my essential oils library!!
Really interesting information on treating pets with essential oils. It was a real eye opener for me, especially in regards to treating cats. I'm so glad I read this before thinking I could treat my cat just like my dog... wow, could have been fatal! I love using hydrosols myself, so was super happy that she includes the use of hydrosols in this publication. A very happy addition to my essential oils library!!!

Not for bird owners
Out of the 221 pages in this guide to aromatherapy use for pets, about two and a half pages are devoted to use with pet birds, including chickens. Throughout the book, Kristen Leigh Bell gives credit to and attributes much of the text and information to other researchers, lining up facts for the pet owner interested in using essential oils, hydrosols or scents to relieve symptoms and/or create a healing environment for the animals in his or her care. My unease with recommending this book for companion parrot owners comes from Bell's own wise counsel within the book. On page 22, she lists the essential oils that she recommends owners avoid using with animals. The list does not include Tea Tree; but Tea Tree oil is listed as dangerous to companion birds in section 6 of the book. Bell also takes a recipe for creating a hydrosol spritz for felines, and shows on page 191 the modification for use with small mammals, rather than giving a recipe designed for a small pet. While that may be all that's available in aromatherapy circles for small pets at this time, I find myself uneasy with recommending the concept and state merely that the book provides the diluted recipe for small-animal pet owners. I wouldn't include the use of the modified example for companion birds because it calls for 1/2-ounce Witch Hazel hydrosol and 1 ounce of Vodka. Bell has obviously done a good job of collecting information on the plants that give us oils and those from which we make synthetic oils, and she explains the differences clearly. The newcomer to aromatherapy may find this guide useful in walking him or her through basics of essential oil and hydrosol use for pets. I would be remiss if I didn't add that responsible bird anatomy and the sensitivity of bird air sacs and respiratory systems before they introduce any new scent or scent delivery system into a home or aviary.

Good reference book!
I am relatively new to essential oils especially with respect to pets. A friend had given me one page from this book as to what not to use! I located the book on amazon ordered it and have already referred this book to others. this book has helped me help my elderly Great Dane who has arthritis etc. The language is clear and the rationale provided for what to use and how to use I find very helpful. Additional reference material is also a plue. I keep this book handy with my other people and pet remedy information. I would read more from this author!

Alles in allem, sehr informativ, sehr empfehlenswert. Darüber hinaus viele Rezeptvorschläge zum nachmachen.
