Great vibration and noise dampening
I just fully restored the interior of my foxbody Mustang. Between the supercharged motor, full exhaust, and very firm racing suspension, the car is LOUD inside and out. After stripping out the entire interior and trunk down to bare metal, I first applied a Foxbody coupe specific matched Dynamat kit from Late Model Restoration. But there were a lot of flat metal panels left untreated, and flat panels are what tend to vibrate the most. So I got a couple of these generic Dynamat kits to cover more area. Overkill? Maybe. But considering how loud the car is to begin with, I figured it couldn’t hurt anything but my wallet (this stuff isn’t cheap, haha) and maybe the penalty of added weight (so what, it’s a light car with over 670 HP and nearly the same in torque, so what’s an extra 75 or so lbs of sound dampening?). Note, I also used this material to repair and reinforce the plastic/carpeted trunk pieces which were cracked from years of abuse, and are almost impossible to find now. I can sat that even with half the interior still out of the car, the reduction in Noise and vibration is noticeable. The car is still loud as hell, but to a lesser degree and the exhaust drone isn’t as palpable. So while not cheap, this stuff works, and is very easy to apply. Just make sure the surfaces are cleaned and degreased, that you have a little roller tool to flatter out the surface, and be careful because the aluminum edges are sharp.
