Not one for the feint-hearted
This is an old product (all the software is dated September 2009!).There is no technical support - the product is not mentioned on the Verbatim web site. The instructions are poor - absolutely no instructions on the physical installation of the internal drive. The physical design isn't great - the supplied SATA cable is a bit stiff for easy connection to a drive. However, I did manage to work my way through the issues and I do have an operational NAS drive that works fine as a media server for audio (and will work for movies/photos if needed). You may need to enable SMB v1.0 client in Control Panel Windows features (recent installs of 64 bit Windows 10 set this off by default).I haven't tried the print server.Getting into the box is not completely obvious - the rear cover slides down and the case will then slide off the main body away from the front panel.I installed my own 2.5" 1Tb hard drive. It needs to be pre-formatted with EXT2 - I used AOMEI Partition Manager which took 4 hours to complete! Once installed, the supplied Finder software did not detect the NAS box but I tried from my other pc and it worked (I've no idea what the difference was). This gave me the IP address and the first pc could find this. The server set-up process is quite straightforward, if a little clunky.I needed to reboot my Musiccast for it to find the new Twonkey Media Server but it now works fine. For £20 and a spare drive you can have a basic NAS drive. There is a security weakness with SMB v1.0 so you may not want to keep anything confidential on this device.

Item was discontinued 4 years ago, couldn't get it to fully work against Windows 10
Bought the enclosure to hold a 2TB Western Digital hard disk from an old PC to act as a backup device. Despite calls to the supplier, calls to Verbatim and email correspondence with Verbatim support, I could not create a share/folder bigger than 15.49Mb which is 100th of the size required for a Windows 10 back up including a System image etc. After 5 days of trying I sent in back for refund which was processed efficiently. Just didn't do what I needed it for. Bought a USB enclosure from another manufacturer and the same hard disk was installed and running a backup within 30 minutes.

Running Mac (Catalina)? Don't Buy!
I rarely ever review, but thought I'd warn any smartass like myself thinking I can overcome any technical hurdle. You can't it's too old, there is no support, no way of updating fireware....because there isn't any support for it. So if you run a Mac based system and in my case Catalin OS, this will not work. I've spent two evenings on this and I'm pretty disappointed....but as the old adage goes "you get what you pay for"!I have a £2k Synology NAS so thinking I was going to get a home NAS for £20 was too tempting, but please heed my warning it is money wasted if you are Mac OS.:)

Verbatim NAS Drive
Smart looking and fairly easy to set up> Took some time to back up all my files but there were over 1Tb to do so maybe that was to be expected. The drive itself is very quiet in operation and appears to be well made For the money a good little NAS

Good, cheap and delivered early
I bought this by mistake; I really needed a SATA/USB external drive casing. However, I installed it and it works fine as a network-accessible external drive and the Barracuda drive is correctly identified as being 2Tb under Win 7. It's just a shame that the NTFS drive had to be reformatted. So, a lucky mistake - it works and doesn't need to be moved from one pc to another. I can watch videos from it (with VLC) although I have not installed server software.

Nice enclosure
Difficult to install the drive because the SATA cable is very short but works fine, transferring a large amount of files is slow but the device seems reliable. The enclosure was a replacement for a previous enclosure that stopped working after years of use and I find it on par with the device it replaced. Overall its good value for the money, pleased with the purchase.

Poor product, legacy device no longer supported.
Very disappointed. The product is a decent enough build but it was designed back around the Windows XP era. It does not support anything over SMB1 so by default anything modern cannot use it. You could lower your security on your PC but that's besides the point.I contacted verbatim who said the product is no longer supported and nobody should be selling them to work with modern systems and should have a caveat about such.Couldn't return due to COVID situation and shielding but thankfully only £20 so no huge loss.Avoid at all costs.

Good to play with
For the price it very good. Easy to link to our smart TVs. Would have been brilliant if it took 2 hard drives in raid 5. Slower to transfer films to than my other 2 nas drives but also £300 cheaper.
