BlackBox does not stand behind their product.
Camera worked for just over a month. one day the camera became completely unresponsive. I emailed BlackBox and received an automated response with procedures to correct problems as well as stating someone would respond to my inquiry within 48 hours. these procedures did not work on my camera. A week pasted and I received no response. I email again and receive the same automated message. Nearly a month has pasted and I have still received nothing from BlackBox. The camera is nice but BlackBox does not stand behind their product despite what the literature that comes with the camera state.

Works just fine, and I'd buy again
The camera generally works well. It comes with a 16GB micro SD card, but it fills up fast, so I'd get a 64GB one. The video quality is generally good, and it has built-in GPS and audio recording, both of which are a plus. It automatically powers off when you shut off your car, so that's nice too. The suction cup mount works fine for me in all the cars I tried. The user interface on the camera is simple enough.Something that isn't great about the product is the proofreading in the owner's manual. When I first used the camera, its battery didn't seem to hold a charge. But, after having it plugged in my car for a week, that problem disappeared. Overall, pretty good camera for the money, and I'd buy it again.

An affordable version of the KDLINKS X1
The manual as translated into English is hilarious. The camera works as advertised. I've had it for a month and it will record in HD without problems. It's on when I start the car and off when I stop. You can set it to keep recording for 30 seconds after you turn off the car, but the tiny battery in the camera doesn't last 30 seconds. Still, it works when I need it to. And I'm impressed by the playback app for your PC that shows you a map of your location updating as you move. And it is a lot cheaper than another brand that sells the same camera but with their name on it. As far as I can tell, it is the same camera as the KDLINKS X1.********************** Six Years Later **********************The battery died in the first year, but that was OK because it was always plugged in.Finally, the whole thing died after 6 years. So I bought a hundred dollar camera that is not as configurable (you can't turn off audio recording), doesn't have a built in GPS like this camera, needs my phone to work correctly, and doesn't record all the GPS locations in a drive.I think I'll ditch the $100 camera and just buy another of these. For the price, this camera is great.

Good bang for your buck, if you're looking for something cheap.
I bought this dashcam about two and a half years ago when I bought my car. Setup was intuitive: mount the camera, run the cables, plug it in. The inclusion of a GPS module was a nice feature, and it was something I always had connected to the camera. Unfortunately, the user manual was a little cryptic, and I had to spend more time than I should have trying to decipher what each menu item was supposed to do what. I found that exploring the menus to customize my settings was the best way to learn how to make this camera work how I wanted.Video quality was good, for the most part. It had decent dynamic range, and recorded in clear 1080p in the daytime. At night, not so much. This camera struggled in the dark, and I couldn't capture license plate numbers due to the glare of my headlights reflecting back from the license plates.Unfortunately this camera started having some issues about a year into my ownership. The camera would start going into a boot loop after I had shut off my car, and it would continue until its battery wore out. I had my camera set to record a few seconds after the car was supposed to be shut off, but I had to start living without that feature. Then, I would notice that the camera would just stop recording mid-ride. The LCD would light up randomly, and I would see that it wasn't recording. It was a slight annoyance that would eventually go away. This camera does not do well in heat. I live in the Southeastern United States, and the interior of the car can easily reach 50˚C during the summer days. I eventually started dealing with having to reset the dates, because my older files would continually be overwritten. (Upon replacing this unit, I came to notice that the housing had cracked open due to the internal battery swelling up.)Something to take note of, and this applies for any dash cam: use a high quality microSD card, format it regularly, and replace it once a year. With the extreme heat/cold and the constant writing and rewriting of video files, the card that came with my camera could only handle so much. Eventually my video files started getting artifacts, and later, were just corrupted altogether. In November 2015, I paid $118.00 for this camera, and now I see it for roughly $20. If it was still at the price point I bought it at, I definitely would not have purchased this again. It would be a steal at $20, and if you're on a tight budget, this is something that can get you by for a year or two. For how long this camera lasted me, I'd say it was a good value, but with many other options out there today, if you're willing to pay more, I'd go looking elsewhere.I'm giving the Black Box X1S Dash Camera a 3 out of 5.
