BOSCH RA1054 Deluxe Router Guide

I was able to use this on my Milwaukee D handle router with a little modification. I had to buy a 1/4” steel rod, cut it down and use it on the inside set screw holes. It works well. The skid base does interfere with the skid plates on the guide, but I am able to take the skid plates off and use it that way if I need to cut close to the blade. Adding a slight offset to the rods will fix this clearance issue. Overall I like this jig. I’ve used the centering pin by taping it down to the material. The notches in the pin plate are handy for getting it exactly where I need it at. I do wish the tolerance of the pin and the hole were tighter, there’s a little much slack for my liking. It is well built, but using the 1/4” rod isn’t as strong as the 3/8 that came with it. That isn’t an issue with this though, that’s a Milwaukee issue for designing their router for smaller rods.

It's been about two years that I've owned those contraption LOL....it definitely does a lot. The edge guide is real handy, be mindful of adjusting to black plastic "shoes" as far away from center as you can. That gives more riding surface. I own a Bosch dust extractor so it hooks right up, so that was nice. And it definitely helps but in my experience you always end up sweeping up some sawdust. I'm also running the Bosch 1617 series router, again this mates up no issues. The mirco adjust is cool although I can remember which way I'm adjusting so maybe it's not as convenient or maybe I should write on my jig with a sharpie!! It works really well for a circle router guide too. I just recently did an address sign for our house and once I found the little clear center pin every went really smooth. Take light passes, if you're in a hurry wait to work on your project later when you can pay attention. I'd definitely recommend this little gizmo, definitely doesn't store very easy, I hang mine out of harms way.

Kia ora from New Zealand. After some serious interweb sleuthing and measuring my SKIL routers I took a punt and ordered the BOSCH RA1054 Router Edge Guide in the expectation that I could get it to fit the SKIL router bases. It turns out I was correct. The setup works pretty well considering the mismatch between the BOSCH 100mm and the SKILL 104mm rod spacing. Things can get a wee bit snug but not to bad. Just don't force anything and all will be good. Here's how to do it. 1. Swap the BOSCH 9.5mm diameter guide rods out with the 7.9mm guide rods from your basic SKIL router guide. This helps alleviate the binding caused by the rod spacing discrepancy. The BOSCH 9.5mm rods wont fit into the 7.9mm SKIL rod bosses anyway. Two birds, one stone. 2. Don't put the BOSCH rod springs on the SKIL rods. Put both of them on the fine adjustment threaded bar with a washer either side. They tend to bind up the works if you put them on the SKIL rods. 3. Route stuff. I hope that helps all you SKIL router users out there. As a side note, the BOSCH guide's dust extraction port (the black plastic bit) perfectly fits the hose on a STANLEY FATMAX V20 battery powered wet and dry vacuum. I like the guide. The adjuster is nice and smooth and the dust extraction hood works pretty well depending on what you are doing. The only thing that lets it down a little is that the casting on the fine adjustment guide (J in the manual) is a bit thin. If you were ham fisted with the locking screws I'm sure it would break. I took one star off because of this giving it a 4 out of 5. Happy routing!

I have a Dewalt 618 router with a DW6182 plunge base and a DW6184 fixed base so I was not 100 percent sure this guide would work the way I wanted. I read on another post the Dewalts use 10 mm rods and this guide has 3/8 (9.525 mm) rods. There is a very minor mismatch but for my purposes, it is quite solid once the cinch screws are tightened down. If it really bothers someone, you can buy 10 mm stainless rod and drill the holes out on the Bosch guide if you feel the need. I can handle the 0.475 mm difference. Other than that tiny difference, the guide fits the Dewalts perfectly. I love it. I am a retired aerospace engineer who learned much from the old masters and I thought this device was well designed. I have worked various projects for the last 40 years, including auto and motorcyle modifications. I have previously seen the triple chrome plated brass and stainless steel clap trap devices, promising .001 inches of accuracy. The group of people purchasing tools are like everyone else, some are fools easily separated from their money. I love accurate tools built with some degree of thought and experience. This one fits the requirements.

This edge guide works great. I saw so many reviews about people complaining about the circle cutting feature with the “suction cup” center pin. But instead of taping or glueing that suction cup down, I just pushed the center pin through the bottom, and now I can drill a shallow 1/4” center hole and have the pin sit down into it to keep it from moving. It took me 15 seconds to do and it works great. Highly recommend doing it. And if you ever need to switch it back for a project that you can’t drill into, then you can just push the pin back up and use it the way it came. But using it this way is the way to go. You can always just plug the hole after if needed. It will be on the bottom of your workpiece, so no one will ever even see the plug.

As described. It fits my Bosch router just like you would expect. it is easy to adjust and stays where it is set at.

If you have the need to operate your router along the edge of a work piece making a dead straight groove, dado or even edge profile, this unit is for you. It is made from quality components in a quality manner. You can adjust the edge guide in the most minute amount possible. I purchased this to use in conjunction with my Bosch 1617, and have used it in the manners above, as well as to make circular cuts. Yes, it will even assist you in making circle cuts and profiles. This also contains fittings to use with dust collection operations to keep your work site clean as well. It installs on the router quickly and easily. Simply loosen set screws on base, insert rods into slots in base, and retighten screws/wingnuts. After that it is a matter of adjusting fence to position bit edge where desired. I would suggest starting on a scrap piece so any even microscopic adjustments, which are easily made with unit, can be made prior to routing final work piece. In the case of edge profiles, you could just as easily 'sneak up' on them instead. All in all this is a very well made tool that serves its intended use very well and I recommend it.
