Is this product to be worn over your pants or directly on the skin ?

I wear mine under my pants when I wear long pants. But I have to be especially watchful when I walk in narrow places because the brace makes my leg an inch wider on the outer side and if I bump something it marks my pants leg. Since I'm retired and live in Florida, I wear shorts at least half the time and then it must be on the skin.Since it is made of Neoprene which does not breathe (that's why it's used in wet suits) I remove the metal braces and run the cloth part through a gentle wash cycle with towels to cushion it. I do all my laundry with All Clear which contains on allergens which might irritate my skin if they remain in the fabric.I have worn the brace outside my pants but it tends to wrinkle the pants badly -- especially if baggy like dress pants. Some times my blue jeans don't have enough room to wear under but I don't buy western cut or slim leg pants.Hope that isn't too much information.
