Great KVM switch. Recommended.
I use this KVM switch for a home lab setup which often changes both hardware and OS configurations. Presently, it is connected to two CentOS 7 servers (linux). In summary, I am very pleased with the product overall.Details follow.Packaging was good. I appreciate the informative, properly sized box IOGear uses for this switch. No hard-to-open plastic molded shells here. One minor problem was the actual wrapping of the many cables that make up this product. Count on about 5-10 minutes to unravel and untangle all the cords. The printed Quick Start Guide is easy to read and installation is clear and simple. I had the KVM switch hooked up to both my computers in about 5 minutes. My computers are close in proximity, so length of cables was fine (3ft each). If you have computers that are not near one another, I recommend you consider cable lengths before purchase. All cable moldings and insulation seem top rate. The one exception may be the button switch cable which is very thin and several feet long. Be careful not to pull this one or crimp it under a heavy computer case--it probably could be damaged easily. The KVM center hub, which is where all the cables plug into and originate from, is made of sturdy plastic. Again, all connection ports seem high quality and spaced properly for easy of use. There is a green LED which illuminates on the hub to designate which connection is active. Unfortunately, these two LEDs are not labeled, other than a "braille-like" pip under each. One pip for one connection, two pips for the second connection. It would have been nice for the manufacture to label that better, but this is not critical to the operation of the product. For my particular setup, I had to use a DVI-VGA converter on one of the cables. This is because my video card on that server had only DVI video ports. Also, I did not use the audio cables for this particular setup, so I cannot review that feature at this time.Be aware that if your computer requires a keyboard during the power on sequence, be sure to toggle the switch to be active on that server when you turn it on. This is because the switch does not maintain any sort of heartbeat on the inactive connection (some higher end KVM switches will do this). In addition, even if the OS boots properly without an active video connection, you will likely have a low resolution (640x480) when you do switch to it. Therefore, I recommend booting one computer, then switching to the other computer and boot that one.Switching is instantaneous and I experienced no failures after several hours of using the switch.I also was pleased to see that desktop session timeouts (where the desktop blanks the screen after several minutes of inactivity) did not confuse the KVM switch either.Overall, I am very happy with this product.

Great Product
This is a great product. I made a mistake of trying to buy a cheap product from a noname company, but I had a lot of issues with that product. After returning it, I did a little research and found that Amazon sold a great two port USB KVM. This product does what the other wasn't able to. My Logitech G11 keyboard and MX518 mouse both work perfectly and are picked up instantly upon switching machines (including being able to use the macro buttons on my G11). The headphone audio also works great. I haven't tried using the microphone channel yet, but I'm guessing it would work just fine too. The switch included on the machine has such a long cord on it that I put the KVM at the back of my desk, as you only need to touch the small switch to change which machine the KVM is currently controlling, saving me a bunch of space. The best thing is that this product is able to swap between my PC installed with Microsoft Vista to my Mac mini with no real issue. I've only ran across two little "problems" (I wouldn't even call them problems because I've learned to live with the little quirks)a) If the KVM isn't set to the PC machine before I boot it up, the screen resolution is stuck at a max of 1680x1050 resolution when I normally use 1920x1080. For some reason with current ATI drivers I'm unable to select my normal resolution without a restart. If the KVM is set to the PC's channel then the machine boots up into the correct resolution with no problem.b) When my G11 keyboard is set to the brightest backlit keyboard setting there is a slight static on the headphone audio channel. Turning the backlight off removes the noise.I'm going to recommend this product to anyone who asks me about setting up their home office, or who needs to command two computers from a single terminal (as I'm often the go to guy when tech problems come up). I'm also going to be sticking with IOGear KVMs for quite a while. Quality is top notch. Only thing I could think to improve on the product would be to fix the two small problems I found, and then maybe making the cords provided with the KVM a little bit longer, as if your machines are pretty far apart, the cords might not reach them. For me though, the cords were plenty long. In closing, have no fear when buying this product if you own Logitech gear, as I've had perfect compatibility across multiple operating systems.
