Melissa & Doug Donkey

Bought this for my wife who loves donkey's. She is a first grade teacher and all her kids knows she loves donkey's. She has "taco" outside her room and dresses him up with different outfits depending on holidays or whatever. Kids love it! GREAT PURCHASE!! THANK YOU

He was so much more than I expected. I am building a carnival game around him for a Farm themed party. I use all of my Melissa and Doug oversized animals for party props, as they are sturdy, well made, and the clients love them.

I think is just awesome. My two year old g’daughter loves it!

We gave it to my 2 year old niece for Christmas. She loves.

I absolutely love donkeys so I was elated when I stumbled across this. I bought it for my daughter to (hopefully) enjoy as she gets bigger.The material itself is soft, especially the black mane, but the body is very stiff -- definitely not meant for cuddling or playing with. The legs are sturdy and somewhat difficult to manipulate.There's false advertising with the photo depicted by this company. The ears do not stand up at all on their own. Considering the large ears are a donkey's main feature, you'd think there would be wiring in them to help them stand erect. This is disappointing to me, especially considering the price.My kitty was not amused with this addition to our home & had to slap it on the nose a few times. Ha!

I received the Melissa & Doug Lifelike Plush Donkey Giant Standing Stuffed Animal, 2.5 Feet Tall.This is a very cute, large, Donkey! Unfortunately, the one I received was not packaged very well and he/she arrived somewhat malformed and a bit dirty from transit!After unboxing the Donkey, it desperately needed some help as it could not stand up! It's legs had been crushed during shipping and a rear one was bent at an odd angle. It was fairly easy for me and my husband to reshape and re-position the legs so it could then stand on it's own.Our biggest concern after getting the legs re-positioned is in dealing with the ears!!! The ears on this poor donkey are totally NOT perky like the ad photo shows! They droop and flop down into it's face! No amount of re-positioning or fussing with those ears seems to get them back to a perky position! That kind of ruins the look for this poor, sweet Donkey!The Donkey's head is not up either. With the hanging head and drooping ears this Donkey kind of reminds me of Eeyore, the pessimistic, gloomy and depressing little donkey in the Winnie-The-Poo stories! No matter what we have tried to do, we just can not get those big ears re-positioned to a more normal, upright position. My husband has suggested that we make a little slit in the fabric below the ears and insert some wire for shaping and support. I may finally try that if I can't think of anything better to do, but I really do hate to have to do that. The donkey should have already been made with some bendable wire support in those ears, as it's obvious they would get smashed inside the box for shipping.The rest of the donkey is quite nice in quality otherwise. It has very soft fabric, and the shape of it's head is cute. The head is a harder material that gives a good shape to it and that is covered by the soft fabric too. The body is nice, plush and soft, just perfect for hugging and cuddling!This Donkey is to be a Christmas gift for my very picky 10 year old. She is a Equidae lover, but she is also extremely fussy about all of her toys looking as close to realistic as possible. That is why I need to get those ears up and perky again before Christmas! My Daughter is not an Eeyore or Winnie-The-Poo fan at all!Do you have Dogs or Cats?We got a strange reaction from 1 of our 2 dogs about this cute Donkey. My husband's female dog checked out Donkey with one quick sniff and then totally ignored it. But, as soon as my own dog saw it, he excitedly ran up to it and tried to sniff the read end. Then he tried to sniff between the rear legs, maybe trying to figure out if it was a boy or a girl I'd guess. Then, he got all super happy and crazy and started jumping up and doing playful little nips and play bows, like he's asking it to play with him, just like he does with his other real live dog friends! He then became protective of it from our female dog, like he just fell in love and it was his! He got quite upset with me when I finally took Donkey away to go hide it from my Daughter! This morning he is still trotting around, looking for his new friend and pestering me about it, so I guess my dog fell in love and does not care if the Donkey's ears flop or not :)In conclusion:This Donkey is very cute and seems be very well made, except for the ear issue.The manufacture needs to correct the flopping ear issue with some sort of support inside the ears. Big perky ears are a very important feature on all Donkeys! I noticed in other reviews, photos show the drooping or flopping ears too, so this is an ongoing problem!There needs a lot more thought put towards protectively packaging a toy of this size by the sellers and manufacture!So, the final Question is this:Will kids even notice or care about flopping Donkey ears and bent legs??? Mine sure will, if I don't get those ears fixed before we surprise her on Christmas with it! Otherwise, she will obsess over those ears and I will never hear the end of it!BTW, Don't let kids try to sit on this donkey as it is not strong enough to support much weight!
