The Foundations of Chinese Medicine: A Comprehensive Text

This text has been super helpful with my studies. I used to just use the power points given in class. As a second year student I finally decided to use this text and it has made my life much easier.

Love this book! The brighter colors and and white pages make all the difference in the world for this book! As opposed to the previous edition, makes for a much easier read on the eyes.....All the same amazing information and then some! A must have!!!

It is very dificult to try making a review of this kind of work . I just can say this new edition is very helpful in order to uinderstand not just the basis but a great knowledge of Chinese Medicine ( Please note I did not say Traditional ) . I am reading every page and at the same time refreshing the old edition and getting new ideas and a new perspective of Chinese medicine. This book is mandatory for Both medical and research purposes. If you agree, my recomendation is to develop an educational way to learn more easily syndromes that remain in the mind of the practitioner. I mean it is not enough read the syndromes again and again, it is necessary to find a way to associate the condition to the patient in real life and of course to find the best treatment. This comment is pointing to find the way of how apply this knowledge and not to discredit in any way this work.

Very good book, has given me new insights

This book: "The Foundations of Chinese Medicine: A Comprehensive Text" by Giovanni Maciocia is a thorough textbook. It is a required text for a bachelor degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine (BTCM) in the tertiary institutions where the BTCM is offered in Australia. I purchased this book after first owning the original 1989 printed edition, which was a great introduction, but has less information than this latest edition (third). The order of theory is well thought out. It provides introductory understanding of the fundamental theories of TCM, yet it is not a total replacement for the Chinese medical classics. It is, however, one of the next best tests to use and is good for students who cannot read and understand books written in Chinese. The only down side of this text is that it is difficult to communicate the TCM theory in English, so the limitations are mostly related to that, since the rest of the authors books have a plethora of information about the other aspects of TCM, such as channels, diagnosis, and more...

Very well written, great for students

This book is amazing. It is amazing, especially if you are English first language and have a background in Western science/medicine, because the book is laid out like every other textbook you are used to, but better. The explanations are clear and concise and the illustrations are effective and simple. I strongly suggest reading the The Spark in the Machine by Dan Keown and looking up the channels in more detail in The Foundations of Chinese Medicine if you are coming from the Western educational system and struggling to understand anything (...teaching yourself). I had so much difficulty in grasping the fundamental concepts before putting these 2 books together. I cannot believe how effective these 2 books are. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
