Way better than the Roamio
When our old Tivo's died, probably due to power surges caused by lightening, my friend and I wanted to buy new devices. Unfortunately, the new Tivos that are compatible with antennas only allow the recording of 2 shows at a time. We had really enjoyed the ability to record 4 shows on our old Roamios, so we opted to get refurbished Tivo Bolts. The functionality of the Bolt is excellent. We love that there is the ability to set your favorite channels and view the Guide only for those channels. We also love the fact that you can preset your favorite recording options and that any future One Pass will use those options. We also love the Netflix button on the remote - much faster than having to go into the applications to pull up Netflix.Although our Bolts are used - they came to us very well packaged and looking as good as new. We couldn't be happier.

Cord Cutting has been Painless! Thanks to being back in Comfort of TiVo!
I bought one of the first TiVos back in the stone age and loved it!!! Changed my TV life forever. I have refused to live without a DVR since.I've had all of them! Cable, Dish, Direct...No matter what I did with my providers and programming, the dish & cable bills would always creep back up over $125. /Mo even bare bones.AND everytime it rained, dish would go out and I ended up watching beautiful HD TV through a 30+ year old attic antenna. (So many free channels now)!!The only drawback was not being able to skip commercials and rearrange network primetime to my own schedule. I have waited for two years, searching for The Perfect OTA DVR. I finally bought the Tablo (it was cheap with favorable reviews) and instantly regretted it, for a multitude of reasons! My review is there.Returned the Tablo to AMZ and got the refurb Bolt! It was Love at the first little "plop" sound! (Thanks TiVo for keeping that!!) The weighty, comfortable and beautifully organized "peanut" remote - it was like I came Home Again after a long absence! It's amazing!Set up took maybe 10 minutes for local channel search, adjusting settings, signing in, etc. Found and logged into my AMZ account and life has been fantastic! Not a single hiccup. The additional coax output was critical to me. The living room TV is new and smart and gets the HDMI output. I have several older TV's (six) that I "mirror" - (all TVs play the same program simultaneously) with splitters & coax wiring in the attic. I didn't want to disturb all of that nonsense. The Bolt Coax output solved that. What I did add to make everything really happy was a coax signal booster right out of the TiVo, before the splits, and a remote "extender" (Sewell brand) so that I can operate the TiVo from my bedroom. The Bolt combined with my AMZ Video account has resulted in a massive choice of free TV. Huge! You can dig around on the TIVo streaming apps and find a plethora of free stuff! I THOUGHT I might end up paying for another service like Sling or Hulu, defeating the whole cord cutting cost savings!...but I doubt I'll ever sign up for any of them. There are all kinds of free stream apps, like IMDB, Tubi, and Pluto with other workarounds and "mini" streaming packages for $5/mo. And the TiVo has magic commercial skips that automagically skip entire commercial breaks without me even touching a FF button. So, I'm about $300 into the Bolt and equip add on's VS $125 mo for satellite that craps out with rain, snow & clouds. I'm still poking around TiVo apps & AMZ Prime and always discovering new free stuff.Regarding the negative reviews? I am a DVR abuser, running full blast with multi records, lots of skipping, backing, FF'ing ...and so far,in 1.5 month, not a single glitch.Regarding the negative reviews?iMHO folks either aren't following instructions carefully or perhaps they got the rare bad unit. If so, just return it to AMZ and try again. Mine has exceeded all expectations!

Mmmmmmm!
If you want OTA TV, and you want to be able to pause and rewind. And you want to record OTA programs. And you want a central entertainment unit for other (but limited) streaming services. This is your device. But it claims 4K. OTA is not going to be 4K for a while, if ever. There is a Netflix embedded app. In my unit it was a 2016 FW version. I could not upgrade it. So it would not support Netflix at 4K.I could get Amazon prime to work at 4K on it.The Netflix app has a hard button on the remote. And it starts almost instantaneously. The Amazon app takes more time to get going. The interface is a little complex but you can set it up to only display the OTA channels you want and the streaming services you want. So you can remove all the clutter. And it’s features let it seek programs OTA and on your subscribed streaming services. The OTA recorded programs are easy to work through. The response to remote commands is excellent. Much better than the ‘X’ cable system I had been used to. Fast forward for advert skip is much easier than I was used to. It claims advert skipping on recorded programs but over a two week period I did not find I had any recordings that offered that feature. If you’re technical but your family isn’t so much, you can set this up to make it easy to use for them and uncluttered. Just one remote does everything.I liked it, but given that the device is advertised as 4K and really isn’t, I ended up returning it.I have yet to find a box that does 4K streaming and OTA. There doesn’t seem to be anything better out there.

OTA, Recorded Shows, Streaming - Great alternative to cable
We have been really happy with streaming but there are still a lot of OTA shows we enjoy as well. The Tivo Bolt has a simple interface and records series easily. Once purchased with the all-in service there are no future costs. So far the system has worked well. We use a Smart TV for the streaming apps so have not spent time on the selection of Apps available on the Bolt. I would recommend this system as an excellent way to record OTA shows to watch whenever you want. Really like the skip commercials feature as well.
