Good form of acne treatment without medications
This is a unique method of treating mild to moderate, non-cystic acne. Utilizing a high intensity Blue Light (non-ultraviolet), the claim is that it kills the bacteria that causes acne. The system consists is a small electronic unit, similar in size to a men's electric shaver. The light is actuated by contacting the skin. There is a slight humming sound, vibration and warm that is emitted. It is recommended that one tests their skin before trying this on their face, then waiting for 24 hours to assess for any adverse effects. Once the unit is charged, the user places adhesive strips (similar to a treatment window). The directions say to use a new strip for each area, and it was ambiguous in the manual's directions, but these strips last you only a few days. The light is intense and one is not to use around the eyes or eyelids, or stare at the light. This is also not recommended for patients 13 years and younger. Use is also limited to the face, neck, back, and chest. The light is ergonomic and comfortable to hold. The electronic display is clear to read. There is no power button to activate. Operation is simple; however, one must glide the light over the affected areas for a total of 5 minutes or 2.5 minutes twice a day.PROSNo chemicalsNo significant side effectsCONSCost and ongoing purchasing of cartridges ($40 every 2 months)Time for use (5 minutes or 2.5 minutes 2 times a day)Effectiveness is good for mild acne and breakouts. The cartridge is only good for 60 treatments. A replacement cartridge is $40, which would translate to 5 more needed for continuous annual use (initial investment: $300 + $200 for the remainder of the cartridges, and $240/year thereafter). The major advantage is not getting exposed to medications that make patients light sensitive to burning easily in the sun or bleach clothing. Side effects of medications can include nausea, headaches and also skin sensitivity. Therefore this does make a viable non-medical option for elimination of bacteria flora that lead to acne.

My son is using this as well as taking an antibiotic for sports related acne. It has really helped the inflammation. We have seen a decent difference when he started using the light daily.

Save your money for the dermatologist!
I've had good luck with other Tria products (hair removal) and specifically bought this brand, even at this expense, because I trusted it. After four weeks of continuous use according to the instructions, we had no visible improvement, which I verified with pictures I took the first day I used it. Unfortunately, because I used it for four weeks, I missed the return window. So now I have a very expensive buzzy thing that doesn't work. Bummer.

It's a SCAM. It takes a $40 cartridge filled with "MINUTES"
The SCAM of ALL SCAMS..for those who bought the blue light for acne, your in for the surprise of your life! This is a worse SCAM than the old Pyramid Scam Programs..I bought this for my girlfriends daughter who has acne issues. She was so excited..... until we read the instructions about "purchasing additional cartridges". WOW what a shocker! To prove my point, PLEASE call customer service and ask them the following.. "can you please tell me exactly what the cartridge provides to the unit??....is it Energy such as a battery, a Chemical that makes the light work. exactly what is it, etc."??.. They DON'T have an answer! The cartridge is a minutes counter and that's ALL. It simply "clicks" off minutes same as an oven counting down to stop cooking. When you are out of minutes, your out of luck until you pay Tria another $40 and they send you another cartridge. I call that "renting" and certainly not "owning". BTW, customer service said a supervisor would call me RIGHT away to give a more detailed explanation of the "technical purpose" of the cartridge.

Works for me
I really do like this. I am 42 and I get hormonal acne. I do not like to use anything that really dries out my face. I have noticed that if I use this daily it really does help. This product is really expensive, and the light refills are also pricey, but I have an almost teenager so we both use it. If you are thinking of trying it out maybe purchase it from a store that will easily accept returns :) I would also like to add that I battled with acne for many years and the one thing that has help more than anything else is cutting out dairy. Seriously, life changing give it a try if nothing else seems to help.

it's more than $299.
The battery barely lasts 2 days on a full charge (so 10 mins of use over 2 days). The worst part, you can't use while charging. So when the battery life is over, the device is of no use, unless there is a way you can replace them. While $299 seems okay for a 1 time investment, the $40 per cartridge is just plain ridiculous (runs at $240/year).The cartridge does nothing more than keep a steady flow of $$ to Tria.

Did not work for me!
I used the Tria laser hair removal and had excellent results so I bought this in spite of the steep price. I have mild-moderate acne and used it 10minutes daily (5mins for each half of my face) for more than 1 month. I did not see any improvement whatsoever. The disc also started to run out of minutes. I don't mind spending $45/month on something that actually works but this does not. Returned it coz it was not worth it.
