Not Stainless Steel appearance; Nice bright shiny chrome look.
This Basket Strainer looks like Chrome not Stainless Steel. So if you are trying to match a brushed nickel or stainless steel look, this may be way too bright.Lessons learned: The sewer line opening at the wall seems to be a problem many times when you add granite and new deeper sinks. Deeper sinks and lower disposal drain holes can lower the overall height of the pipes and make the pipes lower than the drain opening at the wall. Water would have to drain uphill. That problem was resolved. I got the Blanco sink that is 1 inch less deep than the new deep sinks and a disposal that has a 1 inch higher drain opening. That gave me 2 more inches of height to the pipes under the sink matching up to the pipe in the wall.I got a Kitchenaid disposal because it has the highest drain opening (FYI Kitchenaid has the worst customer service I ever experienced). The KitchenAid disposal with the highest opening is the cheapest one (around $100), but it has a very good rating.I made sure the Blanco(very good customer service) sink was 8.5 inches verses 9.5 inches on the disposal side which gave me one more inch. So I don't have to redo the sewer line at a major expensive. But the Kitchenaid disposal has a stainless steel like flange and the Delta (best! customer service) faucet I got was brushed nickel so I didn't want a third look of bright shiny chrome. I looked all over for a basket strainer that would match. The biggest problem is that all strainers were too small. Yes, they do vary! Don't get me wrong; they fit in the opening but can leave a gap around the edge in a blanco sink. I thought, "Great, now I have to get a tooth pick and clean it out occasionally. Nice place for germs to harbor!" This blanco strainer oddly doesn't fit the blanco sink opening either. Same gap problem, although it was less than others I tested. After buying 5 strainers and testing them I finally got smart and brought a ruler to HD and Lowes. Finally I found it (a Kohler stainer) at HD. The perfect fit and perfect look, but expensive. $49 at HD, which was cheaper than the internet --$88 to $110 for the same thing. Fortunately I had a $10 off coupon from Lowes and asked HD if they would honor it. HD said they honor all competitors coupons, so I got it for $39. The Kohler might be considered overkill. It is the heaviest, most solid strainer you will ever touch in your lifetime. The only problem with the Kohler is the logo on top; wish the name was bigger. Say as big as the "China" imprint on the underside :-). All is good. I installed it yesterday. Warning don't use plumbers putty of Blanco sinks; use silicone. Read the plumbers putty container or call Blanco. Added May 28th: Plumbing, sink, countertop all in and working great. THEN I had a leak in the wall (nothing to do with the remodel). The copper waste arm which takes the drain water to the drain pipe in the wall corroded after 30 years. Because of the water damage the plumbing, a cabinet and floor came out for repair.Floors are being replaced with porcelain, no more wood. I have a great insurance company! So here is a warning: If you have an old house and the kitchen is ripped up, check your WASTE ARM ; It cost very little to replace when the kitchen is gutted and thousands if you have it leak after you are done.Good LuckPS. Amazon, thanks for your GREAT, easy return policy!!!!

I love this basket strainer! Warning though- it requires installation
THIS REQUIRES INSTALLATION AND REMOVAL OF THE CURRENT DRAIN PIECE FROM YOUR SINK! If you are not comfortable doing this, do not buy this. That said, installation was easy- I looked under my sink, unscrewed the 1 nut holding pressure on my existing sink drain, pulled off the bottom piece of the drain, pulled off the top piece of the drain, scraped off the old plumbers putty, and then followed the instructions for installing this item. All told, it took about 5 minutes. No plumbers putty is needed as this comes with high-quality rubber washers which prevent any leaks from occurring. The most difficult part of installation was screwing in the piece that clamps the upper and lower drain pieces together because it requires a very wide flat head screwdriver. I do not have such a large screwdriver but realized that I could hold a quarter in a pair of pliers and use that to screw it in. MacGyvered! This is way better than the crappy removable sink baskets that are sold in grocery stores. It completely prevents any water from draining when you have the basket pushed down all the way- amazing for washing baby bottles! The basket is removed simply by pulling up on it, making it easy to throw away food pieces that it catches.I do not know why some people complain about the "plastic" piece. They are referring to the PVC portion of the drainpipe which is only visible if you stick your head under the sink. PVC is the standard now used for drain pipes. It will not rust or corrode like metal pipes. If I had a stainless steel sink, I would complain that the basket is much more of a chrome than stainless. But I have a white sink, so I don't care. If you have a stainless sink, then this may be an issue for you. Finally, check under the "other sellers" section as I got this from amazon warehouse for $7. It was completely brand new. I assume someone bought it, opened it, realized that it required installation, and sent it back. Since it was opened, amazon sold it through their warehouse.

Durability
This looked nice and went with the same color/brand of sink. However, we were afraid that it would scratch and chip easily and was just a metal piece painted white. Decided to return and go with stainless steel which worked much better for us.

Answered....All the questions I had before buying
I’m writing this with a picture that is as close to the color as what I’m seeing in person. There were so many shades online that I was almost afraid to buy this and the sink w/out seeing it first. I wanted it to match my slate appliances and fortunately I wasn’t disappointed. I was worried about all the plastic comments and so I researched other sites. Same part number and color but it said it was metal. I think it’s both. The main part of the drain is solid molded plastic. It feels durable I just wouldn’t over tighten it. The center plug that seals and holds water feels like metal with a matte coating on the top so It matches the drain. If you turn the plug over it feels like metal. I’m not an expert and it doesn’t say anywhere so I’m saying “it feels” like it. I know it’s not molded plastic. The rubber on the stopper is thick but pliable for a nice seal, just give it a little turn. I’m glad I chose the warm chocolate brown. I think the anthracite would have been too gray. The second pic is next to my slate dishwasher so you can see how it matches. Even the matte texture is similar to my appliances.I bought the “good used” from Amazon warehouse and it was brand new wrapped in plastic with instructions. For $26 I don’t need the original box.I hope this review helps with your decision.

Matches perfectly
I bought 2 of these to go with my Blanco cinder kitchen sink as they were not available at our local Home stores. They are a perfect match.

Not for Australia
They do not fit the sink in Australia, the fitting is not flush with the sink and so causes a lip (small but still will pool water) and the firings are not the same sive so cannot be taken out and used with Australian plumbing. Also the sink has an overflow but there is no option to get the item with the plumbing to allow connection of the overflow.Very expensive exercise to find out that the item from manufacturer does not in fact match their sink. Why on earth isn't the sink sold with black inserts?? Or at least the option to have ss or matching.
