Works 'okay' but not what I was expecting
First of all, so there is no confusion, this review is for the Zircon Leak Alert x – Smart Electronic Water Detector with 9.8' Cable – Email, Audio, Visual alerts, Battery Included (70745). I purchased this item because over the last year or so we have had an instance of basement flooding and an instance of a water leak. Both occurred over night while we were sleeping and I was looking for something that would wake us quickly enough for us to minimize any potential damage. Unfortunately this did not turn out to be that product. My main purpose in writing this review is to alert others to a potential bit of product data that I didn't look at closely enough - how loud the alarm is!I assumed all these alarms were similar to smoke alarms and were loud and hard to ignore. That is not the case. When I tested this alarm I was surprised at how quiet it is. I seriously doubt it would be heard from another room if you were watching TV. It literally sounds like it doesn't want to bother you! That's when I went back and looked at the specs and discovered that these types of alarms are all over the place with regard to how loud they are. This particular model is listed as 84 dB. I have since purchased a different model/brand that is rated >110 dB and the loudness is more like what I was expecting. To be fair, the Zircon alarm does work as described, although I question their use of the term "loud" in describing the alarm. The WiFi was straightforward enough to setup and I was able to configure it to send a text alert to my phone. While that is helpful if we are not at home I found the audible alarm to be virtually useless (note: I did confirm that the battery was good and supplying the proper voltage). So yes, the alarm does work but I caution you to consider your needs and be sure to compare the dB rating of any detectors you might be considering.

So far so good -- using it for early detection of sump pump failure
For my sump pump, I had been using a leak detector that just makes a beeping sound. I was using a Wyze camera to send me a notification when it detected the alarm. Unfortunately, even after adjusting the volume threshold, I was getting occasional false alarms. In my testing of the Zircon device, it seems to work great. I'll still keep the Wyze camera in place so I can check on the sump pump if I'm away and get an alert from the Zircon device. Setting up the email addresses is straightforward. Many phone services enable you to send an SMS text message through an email. You can do a Google search to find out how to do this with your particular phone service.Early detection of rising water should buy me a few hours to check on a sump pump failure. Of course, this requires electricity to work. If the sump pump fails because of a power outage, you'll need another backup plan -- such as a battery-powered or water-powered backup sump pump.

Not too happy... arrived with a low battery
Not too happy right now. I have a very heavy refridgerator, which has been in the middle of my kitchen for the last few days making it hard to access my appliances. My leak detector is very thick, old, is not working with new batteries, and I cannot push my heavy fridge into the space without breaking it, so I bought this one with a skinner contact and wi-fi!Installation was easy except ONE MINUTE after, I got an email saying "low battery". I contact amazon and they say because it was sold by the manufacturer, I have to contact them.. and that takes two days. In other words, my refrigerator is going to be in the middle of my kitchen through the weekend and that's even before we reach a resolution. Will updated based on my experience with the manufacturer. Fingers crossed.
