Used for making bottle stoppers. Drilled a 12.5mm hole. Worked very well. Put on a drop of medium CA glue before pressing it in.

Brass insert
This brass insert has a 3/8- 16 inside thread. You need to drill a 1/2" hole in your material and press it in. Bought this insert to work with my BM WOOD bottle stopper chuck. Put the small side in the hole and press in with a clamp or vice.

Won't work with a 1" x 8 TPI Bottle Stopper Chuck
I ordered "Classic Chrome Style Bottle Stopper with 3/8โ x 16 tpi Threaded Post For Attaching Hand Made or Lathe Turned Handles โฆ (10 Chrome Stoppers)," and Amazon recommended "1" x 8 tpi Bottle Stopper Chuck with Pilot Hole Drill Bit. Designed To Mount A Bottle Stopper Blank To Your Lathe Without Using A Jaw Chuck. For use with 3/8โ x 16tpi Bottle Stoppers" and this item, "Pressure Fit Brass Threaded Inserts 3/8 inch by 16 tpi Internal Threads with Opposing Angle Outside Grooves Ideal For Wood turners Contractors Furniture Building and General Home Use Pack of 10" The problem is that the brass inserts will not thread onto the bottle stopper chuck.

Perfect product
Drill a hole, add some medium CA glue to the outer teeth and then use a vice to drive it in. These do not let go, they do not back out. I use a 1โ long 3/8 x 16 bolt as a tool to seat the collar just below the level of the wood. If youโre driving these into really hard wood (bloodwood, Paduk, Angelique) you will need a lot of force. You might want to chamfer the edge of the hole just a tiny bit to help get the collar aligned. I use a machinist vice to develop the force needed to set these. You can actually see the collar rotate on the way in. Thatโs how you know the teeth are doing their job. If you get a little glue on the threads you can easily clean it out with a 3/8 x 16 tap after the glue dries. I use these for hand turned bottle stoppers and bottle openers.

The best I've found for my projects
Works perfect on my bottle stoppers. Easy to use. I set mine just below flush surface using a small punch and a non mating plastic head mallet.makes the mating surface of the bottle stopper neck and my decorative turned resin head just that much better. I think the price for what they are is fair. They work really well and I have had no failures with these (30+) will definitely purchase again. And have some ideas for use on some other wood turning projects. Gotta love it when ya find s winner that works!!! Best ones Iโve found so far.

Don't follow the drill bit size guide
The size suggested for drill bit is not quite big enough, so on pressing these in, there is an unfortunately high chance of splitting the wood. Also... you can just get the bottle stopper part, drill just under the outer diameter of the stopper, put epoxy in the hole, and push/twist the stopper into it and skip these little brass things altogether. Bottle stoppers aren't generally subjected to enough force for that to be an issue. If they are, you're probably fighting zombies or something with them, and society has collapsed, so you won't be too worried about reusing.

Great for making wine bottle stoppers
I am making turned wine bottle stoppers. With these, its easy and looks good as well. Just drill a 1/2 inch hole in the wood blank. The brass insert is then pressed into the hole. It does take quite a bit of force to get them flush to the surface of the wood blank. I then thread the wood with insert onto a mandrel mounted on the lathe to turn the blank into the shape I want. Very solid and stable, does not come out in either direction of rotation on the lathe. Once the shaping and finishing are done, the metal stopper part easily threads onto the insert.
