A beautiful classic picture book story about an unusual friendship between a bunny and a cat. Oliver is a tabby cat who is always the center of attention. Marshmallow is a baby rabbit who moves into Oliver's home. At first Oliver does not welcome Marshmallow, but the little bunny's charms are impossible to resist. This is the true story of how Oliver and Marshmallow become friends. Clare Turlay Newberry's lifelong passions for cats and for drawing come together in this elegantly illustrated book, winner of the 1943 Caldecott Honor. Review: Exquisite!! - An absolute delight! We are always so very thrilled to find nice quality books for the kids amongst so much garbage being peddled as "books." The artwork is exquisite and the story adorable. 5 huge stars! Review: Not Easter, but CUTE CUTE CUTE - It's not necessarily an Easter book, so I don't know why it's advertised as one? But it IS a cute book!! Cute story, and adorable illustrations!

Perfect Sugarless Easter Treat
This one is a classic, and I bought a copy for my grandson because Easter is coming, and we aren't doing chocolate. He is too young to enjoy it yet, but the perfect ages for beautiful picture books are so few--starting at about age 3 and ending around 6 or 7 years of age--that I am ready for a head start. The story involves a bunny that comes to live in the same home as a cat. The family keeps them apart at first, but gradually they become friends, and it is adorable. The illustrations are not the big, colorful, page-covering displays that we find in a lot of today's children's books; this one is old school, with spare, simple, but endearing art work. In some ways this makes it easier for the child, who won't be overstimulated, and will know exactly what part of the picture to look at. The book itself is full size. I only mention this because I bought another hard cover picture book, another classic that set me back more than this one did, and it had been shrunken down to the size of a paperback book. Yes, they tell us the dimensions, but with a child's hardcover book that I've seen before, I don't always check, and maybe you don't either. The only downside to this lovely book, as you might imagine, is the one I encountered when I bought it for my own children many years ago: if you have a bunny already, your child will ask for a cat. Well of course they will. If you have a cat already, they will ask for a bunny. I don't know what happens if you have neither, because we always had one or the other, but dear heaven, not both.

Sweet
Just received this little book today as an Easter gift for my grandson. After reading it must say it is the sweetest story and the author did such a wonderful job with the illustrations. Came well packed and in perfect shape. So glad I purchased it.

Fantastic Book to Read and Just Admire the Illustrations
In our experience, Caldecott award-winning (and nominated) books are generally some of the best children's books you can find. I recently spent some time on the Caldecott site reviewing what books had won over the many years the award has been around and found this little gem among the list. It's longer than some children's books but the illustrations and wonderful writing hold our 15 month old daughter's attention all the way through to the end every time we read it to her. It's simply a great, timeless little story about a cat and a rabbit and I expect it will be someday handed down to our daughter's children.

CUTE Book for Children!
This is the tale of Marshmallow the bunny and Oliver the cat whose home he takes over. Oliver doesn't like Marshmallow at first, or at least doesn't know what to make of him, but by the end they become best friends. This is based on a true story - the author/illustrator owned Marshmallow and Oliver and this is her story about them. It's a very cute story that children will love. The illustrations are quick life sketches of the animals with very little accent color. It's mostly in black and white with a few spots of red or pink here and there. The little bunny looks like he could hop right off the page and the author captured every detail of her cat too!
