TDK BD-RE Dual Layer Blu Ray Disc, 50gb, 1-Pack Jewel Case

Sometimes you just need an erasable 50gb dual layer disc to backup your favorite Blu-Ray movie before the kids and dogs render your original unplayable until you're tired of watching it... and so far these erasable discs have performed flawlessly in my PLEXTOR PX-B940SA burner with speeds between 2-4X. They are available from other online vendors, but so far, this is the BEST PRICE I've found anywhere! They must have a 24K gold plating -- they COST so much! Of course we all know why the price is so high... We all know they only cost a few cents more than producing blank 25gb or 50gb Blu-ray disc, and it's NOT from lack of supply or demand. The Hollywood movie industry manipulates and keeps the selling cost of blank Blu-ray media so outrageous to deter pirating of commercial Blu-ray movies. These 50gb erasable discs cost between $35-$50+ each, (best prices) single use BR-50gb media still cost $10+/disc, and 25gb single layer BR non-erasable media can be had for as little as $1.25 - $1.50, with of course regular DVD media available for as little as 15 cents each, since they are OLD technology. All in all, these discs seem to be very high quality, reliable recording media. I haven't erased and re-burned these more than a few times, so I don't have long term statistics, but so far, 100% perfect burns with NERO, using the verify disc option. The price will remain high until the NEXT Blu-ray standard is released, and the current BD standard becomes obsolete, which is STILL a long way off, So don't hold your breath for prices to drop much in the near future.

I've burned, erased and re-recorded on two of these pricey 50Gb BD-RE media I purchased from Amazon. Every dual-layer burn has been perfect. Prices will come down over time like SD DVD did. I'm amazed in that I have an old dual layer SD DVD burner (~8Gb) yet the industry never produced a dual layer rewritable SD (~8Gb) DVD medium, only single layer (4.7+ Gb) re-writables have been available. Now years later, Blu-Ray offers this ability on a DVD that's over 6X the older format capacity. 'bout time! For consideration to those shopping for a PC/Mac Blu-Ray drive offering read and WRITE capability, I have the Buffalo Mediastation Blu-ray/DVD/cd Combo USB 2.0 sold by Amazon (I got mine on sale at Circuit City for ~$250, although I would expect Amazon to come down on their price for this since typically they are always very competitive on almost all of their pricing - Burning and playing software is included with the drive). I use a Mac but with Windows on BootCamp. Works like a charm! (yes, you can burn on a Mac and it will support the drive. but, for most burning and anchoring and most importantly, -playing-, Windows still leads the pack for Blu-Ray support.... come on Apple!)

Tested burning decrypted 3D Bluray of Avatar to this baby and it worked out flawlessly. TDK is a well known brand and has been making quality products for years. I will buy again, I just wish that the price on these would go down. Blueray is old enough that they should overcharge the consumer for a product that costs them only a few pennies to manufacture.

I've been using this TDK BD-RE 50GB disk for six months now. Its been erased and rewritten eight times and still going strong.I purchased it along with two Verbatim BD-RE 25GBs, and two TDK BD-RE 25GBs, all of which are at an astounding twenty one erases and rewrites each.Very impressive perfomance for all so far! Far better than I had even hoped for.

Did 5x (full erase, image burn). Worked on a PS3 Slim but died after the fifth burn.This may be better than can be expected for a 50 GB rewritable though.

Does exaclty what it is intended for, re-records, and holds 50GB. It is also the cheapest I found, so it gets 5 stars. as the other reviewer stated, hopefully the price of these things will drop soon.
