High above the ground, at speeds reaching thousands of miles per hour, fighter aircraft face off in some of the most intense battles in the history of warfare. THE HISTORY CHANNEL® brings these battles to life in DOGFIGHTS, a riveting documentary series that follows the development of air combat from the planes of the First World War to showdowns between the most cutting-edge aircraft flown today. The second season of this wildly popular series features first-hand accounts of the flying aces themselves, combined with rare archival footage and state-of-the-art CGI graphics. Each air battle is recreated in stunning detail, putting viewers in the cockpit, facing the enemy. From Fokker triplanes and SE5s dueling over Belgium and F86s and MiG-15s battling in the skies above North Korea to World War II s P-51 Mustang and the American F-15s that fought in Operation Desert Storm, DOGFIGHTS: THE COMPLETE SEASON 2 puts viewers right in the cockpit to relive 17 of modern history s greatest battles.

A Nearly-Forgotten Chapter of History
I have always been fascinated with the fighter pilots of The First World War. So, when I saw "The First Dogfighters" available, I purchased it without hesitation. This is not a live action recreation, but a computer-generated one. Yet, I felt my stomach lurch at the sudden, sharp turns these WW1 planes achieved, unlike anything you would see today. A large portion of pilots shotdown in combat died in their planes' crashes and this brought home to me the real risk these brave men, on both sides, accepted when they began their careers as fighter pilots in the Great War.Flying by the seat of your pants in an open cockpit, while fighting an enemy whose face you could often see, is a type of aerial combat we are unlikely to see again. Even in the heat of battle and these men fighting each other to the death, there were incidents of real chivalry and respect between enemies. After he was shotdown behind enemy lines, even the "Red Baron", Manfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen, was given a full British military funeral by the Australian Flying Corps. While we may more readily remember the fighter pilots of the Second World War and our own pilots of today, the men who took to the air in the First World War were truely the Knights of the Sky and we may never see their kind again.

Dogfights - Season 2 box set
season 2 of the popular Dogfights series as seen on the History Channel (and Military History Channel)... awesome series for anyone interested in aerial combat from WWI, WWI, Korean & Vietnam conflicts, and a few air battles from more recent times in the middle east. the series combines excellent CGI graphics with interviews of experts/historians and the real pilots who were there to explain the situations and the tactics they used.it's a great thing to have these interviews on record as the members of this generation (WWII) won't be with us for a whole lot longer...I noticed that in season 2 they improved the graphics of the ground/terrain over that which was seen in season 1... not a huge deal but does make the whole thing look a bit more realistic.too bad it seems the series has been canceled but the great CGI technology seems to be living on in another series call "Battle 360" - also worth checking out for WWII history buffs.only complaint is that just like in the season 1 DVD set, they didn't edit out the post commercial break re-cap segments - this gets very annoying when watching several episodes in one sitting... other then that, highly highly recommended for the air combat buff.

Very educational for learning about air warfare through the ages.
An excellent series for military aviation lovers. The CGI was very well done.If you pay real close attention you will see some sloppiness in the quality control.Wrong tail codes on the planes that the story are centered, one series of frames the proper a/c and code and then a different a/c and tail code. There are times the aircraft will appear with a full load of missiles after it supposedly fired all its ordinance and same with the fuel drop tanks. But, regardless of this little issues the stories of the pilots and there missions are inspiring. What's great is having the actual individuals who are being depicted on camera telling the stories. It's is a shame that the History Channel did not allow the series to continue. There loss.Wish it would make a come back.

Really Captivating
I bought this as a gift for my husband, but I found that I was sucked into each episode as well. It's not as well done as the first season, but it's good. My dad, a former military aviator, is also hooked, so we may be back to purchase additional sets of both seasons. I like the computer graphics, the simulations, and I especially like the interviews with the original pilots. it's just fascinating, and I can truly appreciate what my father did. I mean, I always knew he was a pilot, but after watching this, I understand so much more about the way he thinks and how he sees things. All in all, a very good series. I highly recommend it.

1 Defect but a great product!
Dogfights, Season 2 is a great series! The only problem I had is on disc 5. In the first episode on the disc (Supersonic); the historian, Barrett Tillman, is speaking near the end of the episode when it abruptly ends with him in mid-sentence!I thought perhaps it was a defect in the one series that I had received so I sent for another set and it had the same flaw. I'm assuming every set has the same defect. It is obviously an oversight in the original editing by The History Channel.

Fight or Flight? do both with Dogfights.
I've had season one of this series and I've been wanting to complete the set with this season 2. If you like aviation and it's history, this is a must for your video library! History Channel really cranked it on this series. I highly recommend it.

Easy to access bucket loads of Action
I love flight sims and all things planes so this was made for me. Great presentation both in terms of the box and sleeves, and also the content on the disks. The graphics are so well done - as the voice over says "you will feel you are in the cockpit". This version has a british accent voice over, but the content has a definite U.S. leaning. But if what you are after is lot's of high speed, high action dogfights this is the one for you.

An excellent documentry with superb graphics
Both seasons of Dogfights have been a really exceptional insight into the tactics and heroism of many amazing pilots and planes. The graphics have been some of the best I've seen for a TV programme and there are some very moving accounts by the pilots involved in these events. This has been a very fascinating purchase and I can't recommend it highly enough to anyone interested in aviation and the pilots involved.

Very interesting stories and awesome simulated images
This is a must have for military aviation and general history enthusiasts. It conveys the tension of air to air combat with a minutiae that is commendable and lets the newbie easily get to grips with air combat manouvering and tactics. On the whole a very interesting documentary series and you just got to love some of the simulated images details, like, for instance, the trembling of the cameras as the planes pass by at high speeds, like a formula 1 track camera, simply beautiful!

Exiting history
This is a exiting series that span from the very beginning of aerial warfare to the war in Iraq and in to the future. There are stories of intense fighting, kamikaze and obscure nazi planes, slowgoing ww1 planes and hyperfast jets. You get to see dogfights that changed history retold by the ones who experienced it. In one episode you get to see a messerschmitt "decapitate" a flying fortress on purpose! The Bonus features are so and so, you get some information on some of the planes.I recomend this dvd to anyone interested in planes, action and history.I wish History channel still made shows about history, sadly history channel is growing dumber and dumber.
