I wish I had found this type of product years ago. I may never use teflon tape again... 5 stars
I can't believe I just recently discovered this stuff. Normally, I am gadget boy. I tried a different brand that has a native American name first, and it worked GREAT, so then I bought a small bottle of this brand, and then I used it all up, so now I'm on to the bigger bottle of the same stuff. It is not cheap, but this is the least expensive brand I found that still works. I may never use Teflon tape again... Not if I can help it, anyway. I bought this product originally for putting high pressure hydraulic fittings on 3500psi hydraulic hoses. Do so at your own risk. I can tell you, I've made up at least (20) hydraulic hoses (threaded on both ends, not crimp/compression), and I haven't had one leak or failure yet. As it was explained to me, this product actually lubricates the threads on the hose end and also on the fitting, and allows the threads to lock up so tightly that there are no leaks whereas Teflon tape fills the gaps in between the threads and gets sandwiched in the threads and allows no leaks. This stuff is allegedly safe for a bunch of applications. Again, use at your own risk. I have used it on compressed air fittings as well with zero failures so far. The consistency of the fluid is a lot like blood when you accidentally prick your finger. It will run just a little bit at normal room temperature, and if you shake it, it will "fling" off. But for the most part, the fluid is thicker and not too runny. And a little goes a long way. When I first used the similar product, I put double on what was really needed. I have just put about a 1/4" band around the fitting and held the fittings together so that the fluid in the threads is pushed up, against gravity, and then I know I've got a good seal. I then wipe of the excess with a clean towel. I was able to start using the hoses almost immediately after building them. By time I got the hoses back onto the machine, I was back in business. The fluid will dry down into a pinkish-purpleish paste/powder. I have had to take one fitting apart (operator error), and all I did way knock the crumbs off, apply new fluid, and put the fittings back together, and they worked perfectly. Again, do so at your own risk. Great stuff. Buy it. 5 stars.
